I love, love, LOVE being a Maytag Mom. As you may recall, the awesome folks at Maytag sent me an entire set of beautiful, super-modern stainless steel kitchen appliances a few months ago. They have made life SO much easier, and have definitely breathed new life into our majorly outdated kitchen. (We just bought a home that is nearly 100 years old!) However, I have to admit, our new appliances have not come without their challenges. Namely, keeping them clean! Sticky little fingerprints and smudges seem totally amplified on our stainless steel! And keeping the cooktop on our range clean? A total hassle. Every drop of baked on goop and even water stains seem to show up, making it look dirty even after being freshly scrubbed. Thankfully, when I was at "The Real Whirled House" in St. Joseph, Michigan, I was taught how to properly care for my gorgeous new appliances. A good part of this care involves using affresh cleaners. The beauty part? There are cleaners not only for my kitchen appliances, but to de-funkify my washing machine as well. (And anyone who has a front loading washing machine knows the funk I speak of, probably all too well!) So by using affresh, I can keep my kitchen appliances as well as my washing machine looking and smelling brand new.

Well, it's a brand new season. Old Man Winter is finally making way for spring, and all of the beautiful things that come along with it. Since spring is a time for renewal, I have been thinking a lot about making choices to create a healthier, happier me this year. With the help of Seventh Generation, I have been changing a lot of things in my life, from my diet all the way down to which personal care products I am using.
One of the biggest changes I have made in the name of being healthier is giving up soda. I have been a caffeine addict for years and years, even though I knew just how horrible this habit was for my overall health. While I only drank diet soft drinks, I was surprised to learn that in many ways they're just as bad as their traditional counterparts. So I am proud to say, for the past week, I have been soda-free. I quit cold turkey, and have been drinking a lot of water mixed with flavored drink packets. Surprisingly enough, the change was fairly painless. Sure, I miss my "bubbly drinks", but I know that by giving them up, I am extending my life and being a better example for my kids.
Another change I have made is that I have been much more aware of what is in the products my family uses. I have been looking for more natural ingredients in our products, whether it be cleaning products or bath and body products. I really love the new line of personal care products from the folks at Seventh Generation. This amazing line of products is made from 93% plant-based ingredients, making it the first line of its kind to receive the USDA Biobased Certification! What does that mean in plain English? These products work amazingly well, and provide your skin with pampering, natural ingredients, and leaving out everything your skin doesn't need, like parabens, pthalates, and synthetic fragrances. Seventh Generation wants to get you started on your journey to natural beauty. Visit 7 Day Journey to natural beauty for tips and information on their new line of USDA approved biobased products ranging from facial wipes to body lotion! This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Seventh Generation. The opinions and text are all mine. April 2nd Is National PB&J Day! If your kids are anything like mine, they love peanut butter and jelly. All 3 of my kids request this pretty much on a daily basis, and we have lots of fun experimenting with new ways to serve this lunch time classic. It's always neat to change things up a bit! Recently, I teamed up with the awesome folks at Welch's to help celebrate National PB&J Day, which will happen on April 2nd. They generously sent my family a couple of jars of their Natural jelly. I love that they offer this all natural option that contains nothing artificial, and is free of high fructose corn syrup. It tastes amazing, and I don't experience "Mommy Guilt" because of the fact that there are no chemicals, artificial colors and flavors, or preservatives. The sky is the limit here! As a mom, I like to encourage my kids to use their imaginations. It seems that in today's highly digital age, kids are glued to tech devices, video games, and of course, the television. While these things are all perfectly fine in moderation, there is something simply magical about old-fashioned, dramatic play. Yes, I mean toys that require creativity and imagination. Toys without batteries or flashing lights. My kids only have a limited amount of time each day that they're allowed to watch TV, so the rest of the time, we read, make crafts, and engage in creative play. My toddlers love making sculptures, drawing, playing dress-up together, and building structures out of blocks. Not only do they look forward to using their imaginations, they thrive on it in a way that video games and television simply cannot provide. So when I learned about the good old fashioned toys at Manhattan Toy Company, I just knew my kids would be thrilled by them. This great company offers toys that encourage kids to be creative. With Manhattan Toy, children can sail the angry seas as pirates, plant a fairy flower garden, or even play doctor! They also have some great artistic, crafty toys that can help kids with hand-eye coordination and art skills. Here's some more info about Manhattan Toy company, from their website. On April 5th, my husband and I will be celebrating 5 wonderful years of marriage. It's actually kind of funny, because I have known him since I was 13. We dated for several months as kids, but broke up like kids often do...We both married and then divorced crazy people, and then out of nowhere, he found me again on MySpace back when people actually used to use it. The rest, as they say, is history. It's been an amazing 5 years, and during that time we welcomed to gorgeous children into our family, bought our first home, and moved from Virginia, which we both hated, to my hometown in Ohio. We're incredibly happy with the way our life together has turned out, and I am one of the lucky few who can really say I am married to my best friend and soul mate, as cheesy as it sounds. Okay, so while I certainly don't advocate alcoholism, I know what it's like to have one of those days and want to unwind with a nice, fruity adult beverage. I have a teenager and 2 toddlers, and they definitely keep me on my toes and occasionally try my patience. Since I have a house full of kiddos, my husband and I don't really get to go out too terribly often. And I am certainly not a bartender. As a matter of fact, I couldn't tell you what goes into any mixed drink, let alone attempt to make them myself. So when I received a review copy of The Big Book Of Martinis for Moms by Rose Maura Lorre and Mavis Lamb, I was definitely curious. This book offers more than 150 drink recipes, and they're specifically made to celebrate different milestones and occasions that only a Mom could understand. The book is even separated into easy to reference sections such as Bathroom Feats, Bedtime Feats, Kids Will Be Kids Feats, and many more. The best part? You don't have to be a master bartender to make these drinks. All you need is a shaker, some ice, the ingredients, and of course, a sense of humor. (This book is sure to make you chuckle!) |
