Now that the days are longer and the temperatures are warming up, it's time to start thinking about those spring and summer beauty routines. You know.....Getting your skin and hair ready for all of those trips to the park or even that hot and steamy date night. (If you're lucky enough to get regular date nights, that is. In my home, they tend to be rare!)

It's no secret that cold winters can really take a harsh toll on a woman's skin and hair. I always end up with dry, itchy skin, especially around my knees, elbows, and heels. My hair in the winter? Well, I wish I could say it's always full, bouncy, and lustrous, but that would be a lie. During the winter, my hair definitely suffers. It tends to become dry, dull, and lifeless.

Thankfully, the folks at Radha Beauty have just the thing to help remedy your hair and skin care woes, allowing you to look and feel absolutely stunning in time for summer. The best part? These products are not only affordable for any budget, they're also made from the best, most soothing ingredients Mother Nature has to offer!

Fire Safety Tips On Chuggington Fire Patrol Rescue Day

***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my post. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.***
True story: Last night, I almost set the house on fire. Not even kidding. I was heating some oil so I could make some homemade sweet potato fries, and I got distracted by a child who insisted that trying to kill his sister was a good idea. After breaking up the brawl, I completely forgot that I had oil heating up on the stovetop. Needless to say, my house ended up full of smoke, and the alarms all went off. We had to open windows, turn on all the fans, and take the kids outside until the smoky haze had dissipated some. While there was no actual fire to contend with, this was still a scary experience. And a total Mommy Fail, of course.

This happened at exactly the right time, though. Today, March 31, is Chuggington Fire Patrol Rescue Day! That's right! The folks at Chuggington take fire safety very seriously, and want to pass along some great tips on how to keep your family and possessions safe in the event of a fire.

9 Ways to Inculcate Healthy Eating Habits in Children

3/31/2015

One of the trying predicaments faced by most parents is getting their children to eat healthy food. A lot of kids tend to be fussy about what they eat, and most of the time it is vegetables and fruits that come under the line of fire from them.

All parents want their kids to eat healthy, and try to get them to start young. That’s because the habits they develop when they’re little are what they will carry forward with themselves as adults. These are the habits that will stay with them throughout their lives.

It is, therefore, crucial to instill good eating habits in your children and expose them to healthy foods so that they opt for those by default as they keep growing and developing.

Plus, because it is mostly you, the parent, who is in control of what your kids eat while they’re still young, you need to guide them towards developing such habits. If you teach them the importance of eating nutritional foods now, they will continue to eat them when they get older.

5 Helpful Tips for Potty Training Boys

3/30/2015

Picture
This is my youngest child, Xander. Xander turned 4 in January. I have to admit, he wasn't fully, 100% potty trained until he was about 3. This of course wasn't for lack of trying, mind you. We introduced the potty early, and encouraged him to use it often. My stubborn little man....Well....He wasn't going to use the potty until he was good and ready. For awhile, it was literally a battle of wills. He would poop in his pants simply because he could. Eventually, he finally got the memo that big boys use the potty, and we said goodbye to diapers and training pants for good. After a lot of ups and downs, our potty training from Tesco journey is complete. Even if it DID take a REALLY long time. (Can I get a collective "Hallelujah" here?)

After talking to a lot of my Mommy friends, I have come to the conclusion that boys can be harder to potty train than girls. In my house this is true, at least. My daughter seemed to automatically take to the potty, and has had very few, if any, accidents. Both of my boys were stubborn when it came time to use the potty, even though they completely understood the concept.

If potty training your boys has you ripping your hair out and feeling like you're at your wits end, don't despair! I have 5 great tips and tricks that should make your stubborn little men racing to their potty in no time.

  1. Be Patient. Be very, very patient. First, please keep in mind, there is no right age for potty training. Some kids learn very young, while others may require a bit more time. The key is to be sure that your child is physically and emotionally ready to take the plunge. (Yes, the cheesy toilet pun was totally intended.) Some signs of potty training readiness include staying dry for longer periods of time or overnight, asking questions about the potty, and alerting a parent right away once a diaper is soiled. Some children will also have an undeniable "potty face" that they make when they need to relieve themselves. Learn this face, and be sure that the potty is available in a hurry should it appear.
  2. Streaking is FUN Okay, maybe not so much. However, allowing your little man to run around naked while introducing the potty can be very beneficial. As he learns the signals that he needs to go, there may not always be time to fiddle with annoying things like buttons and zippers. So by letting it all hang out, he saves valuable time, making it to the potty in time and potentially saving you the need to shampoo the carpet or do yet another load of laundry. In time, he will be more prepared to handle the urge to go, and will make it to the potty in plenty of time to disrobe. Trust me here...Having some "Naked Time" can really make the start of potty training easier. For him AND for you.
  3. Let him watch Daddy pee. In my home, being a parent means there is very little privacy. This means that when we need to use the restroom, little people have absolutely no problem barging in, or sticking their little fingers under the door while they plead for attention. This invasion of privacy can come in handy during potty training, though. Little boys can learn a lot about the Art of Peeing, simply by watching their Daddy go. Now if only my husband could aim....But that's a different post entirely.
  4. Start off sitting down. This may sound like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many little boys try and pee standing up from the get-go, and then get frustrated when they can't make it into the toilet bowl. Until your little man fully understands how to control and aim his equipment, sitting down while peeing might be a better option. One that will prevent a great deal of mess, too!
  5. Give him a target. When it IS time to have your little guy try his hand at standing while he goes, it might help to give him something to aim at. Sure, the toilet bowl itself is a big enough target, but that isn't any fun. We have given Xander and Kyle things like Fruit Loops or even a ping pong ball. All you do is place them in clean toilet water, and tell him to SINK them. Trust me, if you turn this into a game, he will be much more interested in succeeding. My boys were!

Potty training can be a chore for little boys as well as their weary, exhausted parents. Keep your head up, and keep trying! Offer kind words of encouragement, and remember, potty training is a journey and doesn't happen overnight. (Usually.) Patience is key. Most of all, enjoy these moments. Our little boys grow so fast, so remember to relish in these little milestones and enjoy them!

How did YOU successfully potty train your sons? I'd love to hear some more tips and tricks!
