(Who else owns a tie-dye purse, worries about GMO's and has a Jim Morrison framed print at their entry-way?) Aside from the fact that I always make sure to shave my legs and armpits and drive a Mercedes rather than a VW Bus, I guess I am a hippie of sorts. A modern day hippie, perhaps. And that is perfectly fine with me. In fact, it's a label I embrace.
One of the things that makes me a hippie is my love for herbal and organic remedies. I truly believe that Mother Nature provides everything that we need to be our best, healthiest selves. Did you know that there are tons of uses for herbs beyond cooking? It's true! I swear by Oil of Oregano as a natural antibiotic and have had great success with it. Clove Oil is also a wonderful topical numbing agent. Turmeric, Saffron, Holy Basil, and Milk Thistle also have well-documented healing properties, just to name a few. (There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of simple and complex herb formulations that can benefit a person's overall well-being.) True story: Dan and I had a very difficult time conceiving. We tried and tried for a few years, and ended up suffering 3 losses in as many years. The doctor diagnosed me with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and told me to take the diabetic drug, Metformin. Well, I took this, and I experienced the worst intestinal issues ever. I was literally running for the bathroom every 10 minutes, and was absolutely miserable. So I started doing some research to see if there were any less brutal options for women with PCOS who were trying to conceive. This is how I discovered herbal remedies. I found an Ayurvedic supplement that promised amazing results for women like me. I discussed this with my doctor, and he told me it was definitely worth a shot, as he had actually heard of this supplement but just couldn't prescribe it since it's a natural supplement rather than a synthetic pill from a big pharm company. After just 2 and a half months of taking it, I was pregnant. Upon testing, my hormone levels and counts were right on track, which was something we struggled with before, leading to miscarriages. So basically, a NATURAL, herbal supplement did what the Metformin couldn't. My daughter is 4 years old now, and we got an added surprise when our now 3 year old son, Xander, was conceived shortly after Sophie's birth. And this is how my love of herbal supplements was born. I haven't looked back since. Keeping the house clean with three kids in tow-- is that even possible? I know it sounds strange. I know you probably think the house is never going to look tidy again. But even with all the clutter that is perpetually present, there are ways to tame the mess monster and keep your home neat and tidy.
What are these ways? Read on to find out. ***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner! While this is traditionally a day to celebrate Hispanic heritage, you don't have to be of Hispanic descent to celebrate. I'm not, and I celebrate every year. I love this holiday because it gives me a reason to enjoy a delicious Mexican feast and maybe even indulge in a few celebratory cocktails. You know...Because after slaving away at the stove all day preparing some amazing, spicy dishes, I need a drink or two.
You all know I try and choose as many natural and organic products as possible in my home. I love organic fruits and veggies, as well as cage-free chicken and eggs, organic beef, etc....But little did I know there were natural and organic options in adult beverages! Recently, I discovered a couple of great options that are ideal for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. They're bright and refreshing, and yes, they are eco-friendly, too! The first product I'd love to introduce you to is a very unique liqueur. So unique, in fact, that it's only produced in one place! Villa Massa Limoncello is made in the Sorrento peninsula of Italy. |
