Family Friendly - What to Look for in a Lawyer

7/29/2020

With any luck, you and your loved ones will have no reason to seek a lawyer at any time in the foreseeable future. However, life is rarely that straightforward. From employment law to personal injuries and even things like issues with vacations and medical negligence, there could be any number of many common reasons to speak to a lawyer coming your family’s way. For example, check out New Rochelle PI lawyers.

When this happens you may be thrown in at the deep end - you might want to select a lawyer that is responsive and dedicated to your cause and one that is also family friendly (when you are in the midst of an unfortunate situation, your lawyer will become a short-term part of yours and your family’s life).

So, what are the qualities that you should look for in a lawyer? Today, we’re going to look at certain traits that are associated with family friendly lawyers that mean you and your family will not be put under any undue stress throughout your time in the legal system.

Communication and people skills
We’ve all met people who have poor communication skills. Unfortunately, these people sometimes find their way into professions that actually require communication as skill. From salespeople who are reading from a script rather than knowing their products to friends and co-workers who never seem to add anything to group chats, we all know that sometimes we’d rather be speaking to someone else entirely.

If you are faced with a lawyer who seems preoccupied, short on time, uninterested, or simply unable to convey a sense of authority and reliability, you should move along. There are plenty of other lawyers out there who will fight for your case and be there to offer support to you and your family at every step of your claim.

Creativity in all things
The way in which you’ll notice creativity sort of falls into the category of people skills, because one of the giveaway signs that you are dealing with a creative lawyer will come from the things they say. If, for example, you mention a detail of your case that you believe to be common knowledge, a creative lawyer may jump into the conversation with questions and insights that add value to the conversation. Where the lawyer is not very creative and quite switched off to the world, they may require you to provide further explanation. This can leave you feeling like they aren’t the lawyer for you.

Communication and creativity are skills all lawyers claim to possess, but only when you get the chance to speak to a lawyer will you be able to ascertain whether they truly are the lawyer suited to you and your family.

Things have been stressful lately. Very, very stressful. Between worrying about how we will make ends meet, to learning how to best navigate this "new normal", I have to admit, I've been struggling. I know I'm not alone in this. These are unprecedented times, and I think we're all just doing the best we possibly can right now.

One way I've tried to maintain some semblance of normalcy is by making sure to take time for self care. It's so easy to forget to take care of ourselves during uncertain times, especially if we're also responsible for caring for others. It can all become very overwhelming, and sometimes, a mental break from things is a real treat.

Be More Honest, Open and Accepting with These Tips

All parents should aspire to be honest, open and accepting. How can we expect our
kids to be good people if we judge others and use preconceptions and prejudices? If
we continue to be judgmental, our kids will feel unable to talk to us when they’re
older. They might not feel comfortable telling us who they really are.

We all want to have honest, open and accepting relationships with our kids. We love
them unconditionally and they should know that. Here’s how you can be more
honest, open and accepting, and form good relationships with those around you.

Be more spiritual
Spirituality is something that many people don’t fully understand. But that’s because
it means something different to everyone and can be channeled in many ways;
whether that’s meditating, embracing nature or speaking to a psychic (via
mediumchat.com). Many spiritual people are more open and understanding, as they
are better connected to themselves and know how to manage stress. So, learn more
about spirituality and try to embed it into your relationships. Spirituality means
accepting others and abandoning preconceptions: something that we all must do.

Speak to a therapist
Many people feel alarmed at the idea of speaking to a therapist. Surely therapy is
only for people with serious problems that they need to deal with? Everyone should
try therapy at some point in their life. Many people struggle with talking about their
emotions, and therapy helps in opening that door. We learn to listen to our feelings
and share them with others. Normalizing talking about the way we feel helps in
making us honest, open and accepting.

Education is important in becoming honest and open. Once we leave school or
college we tend to stop learning at such a fast pace. But those who read regularly
continue to educate themselves and take in new perspectives. This means that they
are more accepting of different points of view and are better at having intelligent
conversations with their friends. If you’re not a natural reader, ask around and try
joining a book group. Having friends to discuss books with (over a glass of wine) can
make reading more enjoyable, and you will learn to be open to debates and
discussions.

Listen to your kids
Many parents find it difficult to listen to their kids – and especially be told that they’re wrong. We raised our kids, so why should they not agree with us? But one of the great things about having kids is that they grow up in a different generation and have different views. We might not want to hear it, but they are probably more liberal and educated than we are. This isn’t something to be ashamed of. In fact, it’s something to be proud of. You’ve done a good job and raised intelligent people. So, get into the habit of listening to your kids and asking questions. Having polite, open-minded debates will make your family stronger and more connected.

The world is weird right now.

Very, very weird.

For many families, school ended in March, long before summer began. Okay, not really ended, per se....But kids did largely switch to online, remote learning when it became evident that this Pandemic was hitting too close to home for schools to remain safe. My kids have always done remote learning, so this hasn't seemed to abnormal for them, thankfully. I am so grateful that living in the Times of the Coronavirus  hasn't really phased them. I know for many, worlds have been flipped upside down, and that's got to be challenging.

One challenge that my family hasn't been immune to? Trying to avoid the COVID slide...Or summer slide....Let's face it: Kids can lose their academic edge when school isn't in session, and this virus has made that all the more likely to happen. It's stressful for the kiddos, too! One way to help kids stay sharp in these weird, weird times is to help them learn while engaging in play. STEM themed toys like the ones I'll be showing today are a great place to start!
