Well, it's official...I'm getting old! Very, very old, if you ask my 11 year old! In celebration of my 30th birthday this June, I am hoping to bring you a month-long birthday event, with lots of fun posts and of course, giveaways! After all, a girl only turns 30 once, and instead of spending all month looking in the mirror for gray hairs or crow's feet, I plan on celebrating with you!
So I hope you'll tune in from June 1-June 29th to help me celebrate this milestone!
Here's what's on my birthday wish-list this year:
I AM NOW ACCEPTING SPONSORS FOR THIS EVENT. If you have a product you'd like me to provide an in-depth and honest review of, or you'd like me to host a giveaway, please review my PR guidelines and contact me using my easy contact form.
It is no secret that after having 2 babies in a 12 month period, my body is NOT the same. Yes, I have lost ALL of the baby weight. With Xander, I only gained about 10-15 lbs, so the weight was gone as soon as I was home from the hospital and the extra fluids associated with having a c-section subsided. It's kind of frustrating, because while I weigh a little less than I did before I got pregnant with him, my scale has been STUCK at 147lbs for a month now. It seems I cannot lose any more weight, no matter what I try. I would ideally like to weigh around 125-130, since I don't have a tiny frame and will never be a size 0. So I am trying to find ways to drop another 20lbs, hopefully by my birthday at the end of June. (My struggles there are a whole other post, though, lol)
Anyway, after serving as a baby factory for the past 2 years or so, I have noticed definite changes in my body. The main thing that irks me is my lower belly. Yep, I have the belly pooch. I guess after a total of 3 cesareans, I shouldn't be too surprised! But having a belly has not been a big help for my already low self-esteem. Even though there are plenty of cute, form-fitting clothes I would love to wear, especially with summer approaching, I usually won't even try them on because I am very self-conscious about my body. I don't like feeling that way, and I want to be able to look like an attractive woman, even though I am the mama of 2 babies under the age of 2.
That's why I was intrigued by the Body Magic system by Ardyss. The Body Magic is different than most shapewear because it addresses a woman's changing (or drooping) body in a revolutionary way. Don't get me wrong, I have shapewear items that I LOVE. But Body Magic is different, and I will tell you why: It addresses the physiological, medical reasons that womens' bodies change with age, pregnancy, weight loss or gains, and it can actually help correct these issues. As a matter of fact, Body Magic can instantly make you shed 1-3 dress sizes! It sounded too good to be true to me, too, and that's why I contacted the company inquiring about a review opportunity. I wanted to see for myself if the Body Magic garment would give me a noticeable difference in not only how I looked, but in how I felt, as well. I was thrilled when they agreed to send me the product to test.
Here is how the Body Magic by Ardyss works to not only enhance appearance, but to actually aid in weight loss over time:
The Ardyss product line helps restore the shape of the body. The process of body reshaping is called "Lipo Transportation." That means it moves the fatty tissue in the body from where it is to the places it's supposed to be. On a woman's body, there are only two places where fat tissue is necessary: the breasts and buttocks.
However, the Body Magic by Ardyss does alot more than that. Are you aware that in 80% of women who are overweight, it is due to a sluggish lymphatic system? When your lymphatic system stalls, you will balloon 2 or more dress sizes. When the lymph system heals guess what? You will drop significant weight!
The Body Magic by Ardyss is a compression garment that is very comfortable to wear. Due to the function of the garment it flushes your lymphatic system.
The link to your lymphatic system and the Ardyss Body Magic is that as we age, or due to illness our organs shift. As your organs shift, they will not operate as efficiently. Proper organ function impacts your detox centres and your metabolism.
As women, you must agree that due to gravity, our stomach muscles are not as tight as they use to be. That lower belly pouch is due to your abdominal muscles falling over time as you age.
Due to the compression of the Body Magic, the pressue to your abdominal cavity will allow your organs to realign their position to where it use to be in our younger years.
When your organs are properly aligned they will function better. Suddenly your liver, your detox centre, will begin to filter toxins better to the lymphatic system. Due to constant pressure of wearing our Body Magic, a sluggish lymph will start to flush out toxins and excess fluids more efficiently through your urine.
The Body Magic is the complete solution for reshaping your body!
Women in Hollywood have been wearing body shapers for years. Its their secret weapon to look amazing on the red carpet. Actresses in the 50's and 60s were known for hourglass figures, like the pin-up girls, due to reshaping corsets.
You will get the exact same results as women did who wore corsets on a regular basis without diet, pills, exercise or surgery.
Combine the Body Magic with the Le Vive Juice for a double whammy in WEIGHT LOSS! Do the Body Magic 2 step system.
BUY NOW and discover why doctors, celebrities and the media endorse Ardyss products. Ardyss also supports a product line for reducing cellulite, trimming inches, eliminating stretch marks, firming your breasts, a nutritional line geared for weight loss, beauty, personal and "green" home care and MORE.
See links below of medical claims of how the lymph system is related to weight loss and weight gain:
Dr. Ann Loiuse Connection To Weight Gain
Lymphatic System And Women's Health
The Body Magic shaper, designed by Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Leonel Kelly Mejia, by flushing the lymphatic system will sensationalize your figure by reshaping your shoulders to your legs. Made of sturdy, yet lightweight fabric with a layer of lace in the front to give it a feminine appearance, it will give you a sensational figure and attitude.
This product line works. Its that simple!
* Flatten your belly pouch
* Slims your waist by 1 to 3 inches
* Thins your hips and thighs
* Lifts your buttocks
* Get an instant breast lift!
* Provides upper and lower back support
* Pulls your shoulders back and corrects your posture
Now doesn't that sound like a product worth trying? I have been using my Body Magic for almost a week now, and while I haven't lost any weight yet, I am noticing a MAJOR improvement in my posture, and while wearing the garment, I "feel" different. I stand up straighter, like my body is somehow better aligned, and even while sitting, I have noticed that I don't slump. And as far as dropping a dress size or 2 while wearing Body Magic? That is absolutely true. I measured my waist, hips, and thighs while wearing the body magic, and I was pleased to find that I had lost several inches in total, 3.5 of which were from my waistline. It was a little tricky to get on at first, but once I figured out how to put it on correctly, it became very easy. It also stays unnoticeable under clothing. The only time the garment showed through was while I was wearing a shirt that was already slightly sheer to begin with. I also found that the Body Magic is very comfortable, and does not restrict breathing or movement. I also didn't overheat while wearing the Body Magic, which will make it perfect under cute warmer-weather dresses! So maybe I will try some of those cute summer fashions, after all....And the Body Magic will be my little secret!
I definitely recommend this product to anyone who'd like to appear a couple of sizes smaller or smooth out any bumps or bulges. It absolutely does what it claims to do. As far as the weight loss aspect, I will let you know! They do have a 2nd step to work in conjunction with the Body Magic garment called La Vive Juice that is supposed to accelerate weight loss. I am not using this product, so I will be relying on the garment alone. In a month or so, while continuing to use the Body Magic by Ardyss, I will update on my weight loss progress.
I am very happy with the performance of this product. I think you will be, too! And I have GREAT NEWS for any of you who would like to try this wonderful, slimming product.

Anyone who knows me is well aware of the fact that my husband is weird. A good weird, but weird, nonetheless. One of the more odd things about him, other than breaking into spontaneous dance in the aisles at WalMart, is that he HATES anything with red sauce. He would even opt to get pizza with no sauce at all rather than tomato sauce if he could convince anyone else in the house to let him!
I am ALWAYS on the look-out for recipes that allow me to satisfy my family's love of certain foods, all while keeping the icky-tomato-monsters away so I can satisfy my husband, too. I have successfully found an alternative to spaghetti,(Cincinnati Chili) and have found a few actual chili recipes, like white chicken chili, that have gotten his seal of approval.
Lasagna, on the other hand, has always been a challenge. I know of many lasagna recipes that don't call for tomatoes, like Florentine Lasagna, but he doesn't like spinach, so that was definitely a no-go. He also doesn't care for veggie lasagna. Tonight I FINALLY succeeded in making a lasagna that he RAVED about: Cajun Chicken Lasagna! I found the recipe while looking for something different to make with chicken, and he had suggested something Cajun. I had never heard of this dish before, but I was willing to give it a shot. It was definitely labor intensive, but the time and effort it took to make it was definitely well-spent.
I opted to make my own alfredo sauce rather than use the 2 jars of prepared alfredo, as called for in the recipe.Alfredo sauce is very, very simple to make, and I much prefer it over store-bought sauce. However, I am leaving the recipe as is, for convenience sake. If you decide to try this dish, just know that you CAN substitute the jarred sauce with home made. If you're not sure how to make alfredo sauce, please feel free to leave a comment and ask, and I will post my recipe, which just happens to be fabulous!
Anyway, we LOVED this dish. It was creamy and decadent, with just the right amount of heat from the sausage and Cajun seasonings. I think next time I may kick it up a notch with a teaspoon of cayenne or ancho chile, as we like it spicy here!
Doesn't this look yummy? Here's the recipe:
This was definitely a very unique spin on a much loved dish, and I will be making it again! If you decide to try it, please let me know what you think! I'd love your feedback!
It seems that everywhere I look, I see big pink bunnies, baskets overflowing with colorful eggs, and Peeps galore! That can only mean one thing: Easter is officially on its way! I know a lot of people love Easter primarily for the Easter egg hunts and the chocolate treats, like Cadbury's Cream Eggs or big, chocolate bunnies, and seeing little tikes all dressed up in their finest dresses and suits. Well, I, like all of you, enjoy these things, too!
But for the past 2 years especially, Easter has had a very special meaning to my family. You see, when my husband and I got together, we tried desperately to have a baby. We tried for a few years, and in that time, had 3 miscarriages. I was diagnosed with PCOS, a hormonal disorder than can adversely affect a woman's fertility. I did not want my oldest to be an only child, and it seemed that I was somehow broken. All the while, it seemed that everyone around me was getting pregnant and having babies. After becoming seriously depressed,I finally gave-up, leaving it in God's hands. If we were meant to be blessed with babies, it would be done in His time, not mine.
Well, in April of 2009, (right near Easter) we conceived our beautiful, feisty little diva, Sophie. While we were pregnant, my husband made the nerve-wrecking decision to locate his biological parents. He was adopted shortly after birth by a wonderful, kind, and loving family and has had a terrific life, but we needed to get some medical background for our OBGYN, since they were classifying me as being high-risk at the time. His adoptive mom was wonderful, and copied down as much info as she could, even though back in 1977, open-adoptions were not prevalent. She basically "sneaked" names and addresses and anything else she could remember into a file, and placed this file into a safe deposit box, just in case Dan had questions about his identity later on in life.
So after doing some extensive searching, we found his Mother. I wrote the letters, since Dan was too nervous to know what to say and enlisted my help, and I sent them off. Soon after, we received the first of many phone calls from his birth-mother. (We just call her Mom now!) We found out Dan has 3 amazing sisters and 2 beautiful nieces, as well. (Soon to be another niece or nephew in the mix, as one of his sisters is expecting!) We absolutely LOVE them all to death, and cannot wait to finally meet them face to face. With me being pregnant and unable to travel for almost 2 years, as well as financial issues on both sides, we have yet to meet his Mom's side of the family. Hopefully soon, though! I want Grandma to meet her grandbabies, and to see a mother hug the now adult child she made the difficult and very painful decision to place for adoption many years ago.
Dan's Mom was able to give us more info on his father. Shockingly enough, his Dad has lived less than 2 hours away from us for many, many years! We contacted him, as well, and that entire side of the family has been so kind and accepting of us! Dan even has a teenage brother who towers over him at the age of 13. His Dad's side of the family is a blast, and are some of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet. They even embrace my oldest from a previous marriage as one of their own. We just seem to fit right in with them. It's comfortable, and they are a very close family with a killer sense of humor. We really enjoy our time with them. It's funny, too, because Dan looks SO much like his dad! They even have the same attitude and demeanor! It's amazing how much seems to be hereditary, lol.
Anyway, back to Easter. We go up to Dan's aunt's house for Easter. She is his biological father's sister, and she hosts the festivities every year. It's a tradition they have invited us to share in. We also do Christmas and Thanksgiving with them as well. Last year, on Easter, his Dad's side of the family got to meet our miracle baby, Sophie, many of them for the first time. She was the first grandchild for Dan's father, and the first GREAT-grandchild for his grandparents. It was wonderful seeing his grandmother dote on my little Princess! This year will be special, too, since we have another new addition to introduce to all the aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins: My new baby, Xander!
To me, Easter is not only a time to celebrate our faiths, and to celebrate chocolate...It is a time to celebrate family. To be with those you love, whether they were there your whole life, or you've been blessed enough to find them years later. We have the rest of our lives to get to know Dan's biological family, and it just so happens, at least for his Dad's side, Easter will be the day that they get to welcome our babies into their hearts for the first time.
What does Easter mean to you and YOUR family? I'd love to hear your stories!

If you're like me, you ONLY want to fill your baby's tummy with only the freshest and highest quality baby food. There are plenty of wonderful, jarred options out there, including those that are organic, but can you REALLY be sure that anything coming from a jar is truly fresh? I mean, think about it: Sure, the ingredients are picked and processed at their peak of freshness, but who knows how long they sit on a shelf before they make it to baby's belly, or what additives and preservatives are put into these supposedly healthy foods?
Did you know that with the Baby Brezza, it is easy to prepare fresh, homemade baby foods that YOU control the ingredients of? Sadly, I do not have a Baby Brezza, but I have heard amazing things about it. Hmm...maybe I should inquire about a review opportunity with them! With 2 babies, I would LOVE to be able to make healthy, nutritionally sound foods that my babies wouldn't make the "stink face" at! And with the Baby Brezza, the possibilities would be endless.... Maybe a decadent Baby Cordon Bleu, or even Petite Pasta Primavera!
Ladies, this is where Baby Brezza could use YOUR help! They are enlisting the help of REAL mamas who care about what their little ones eat in creating a brand new Baby Brezza Cookbook! This cookbook will be unique, because it will feature recipes made BY moms, FOR moms! How cool is that?!

I have a confession to make. One SO bad that you may just have to call in the Fashion Police to cart me away and enroll me in Fashionista Rehab! I LOVE Ed Hardy. Now, don't get me wrong...I would never in a million years become of one those odd people who walk around looking like walking billboards, decked in head to toe Ed Hardy designs. I actually chuckle to myself when I see that. But I DO love their hip and trendy tattoo inspired designs. I have 2 purses, 2 diaper bags, 2 dresses, and my car's seats and steering wheel are all Ed Hardy. Yeah, I know...Very Jersey Shore. But no, I am not trying to imitate Snooki or JWoww. This mama has the boobs AND a brain to go along with them!
But alas, I know that my well-loved Ed Hardy won't always be in style. It's already losing some of it's popularity. Now I am by no means a slave to fashion, as I will wear what I like regardless of how hip it is at that given moment, but I like having other options that are still trendy and cute, but don't necessarily scream "Label Whore." I will proudly admit that while I do love my designer duds, I will gladly shop at Target or WalMart if I see something that is to my liking. But you can't always find unique styles there. That's why I am psyched to announce my next Mad About Mama Event sponsor: May 23 Online!
May 23 Online is a fun, fresh online clothing boutique that specializes in cute, trendy clothing that will have a longer shelf life than my Ed Hardy designs that are slowly but surely making their way to the back of my closet, even as we speak. They have awesome silk-screened T-shirts that are fun, fashionable, and oh-so-comfy, as well as sweaters, jackets, hats and mittens, bags, and even some adorable socks! They also carry a very cute selection of babies' and childrens' items! I am loving the items I received for review, but I won't spoil that here. We'll wait for my event post in April for the unveiling of what I got! I will say I have already received a TON of compliments, though!
Here is a little more about May 23 Online. Originally, they started by creating unique designs for a local charity pub-crawl they organize. (Big Wheel Pub Crawl.) People absolutely loved the fresh designs as well as the wonderful quality of their shirts. So naturally, with such popular demand, they decided to branch out. That is how May 23 Online was born. They use Alternative Apparel shirts as their base, (as well as some American apparel for some of their older designs that are still in stock) and that says a lot for the quality of these items. The T-shirt I received is very soft and provides a nice fit. It's not your typical starchy, huge T-shirt that seems to be so common these days. These are fashion-quality items. These would be great for a mama on the go to paired with a nice pair of skinny jeans. You could even pair these shirts with some killer heels for a night out with the hubby at a pool hall or bar, if you're lucky enough to get out once in awhile! May 23 Online even includes a "Pet Monkey" with every order! No, it's not a real live, poo-flinging monkey. It's an adorable miniature pocket monkey! My 11 year old actually used a silk cord and made a monkey necklace out of the little guy! What a nice touch! I just happen to be obsessed with monkeys, though. :)
Oh, and did I mention that the clothing at May 23 Online is CUTE? Take a look at just a couple of items they are currently offering:
Aren't these items adorable? I especially love the sock monkey hat! And they have SO much more! May 23 Online will be offering one lucky reader of mine an item of their own from their awesome store during my Mad About Mama event! How cool is that?!
But it's not quite time yet for my event....However, as always, I will have some EARLY EXTRA ENTRIES available to those smart mamas that want an edge over the competition!
I will keep it simple for you. Please leave your extra entry comments here on THIS post, as there will be instructions on how to redeem them during the May 23 Online giveaway once my Mad About Mama event begins!
EARLY EXTRA ENTRY:
Okay, so I have a confession to make:I am ADDICTED to BabyLegs. So addicted, in fact, that I am considering creating a 12-Step program to help me curb my love for chunky little legs covered in adorable knit prints! Or not. I am kind of enjoying this obsession. So perhaps instead of a BabyLegs recovery program, I will start a fan club! Yes, I really like BabyLegs THAT MUCH.
That's why I was over the moon when they agreed to sponsor my Mad About Mama Mother's Day Event! Again, these super-stylish legwarmers may seem like a gift for baby, but they can make mamas happy, too! First of all, what baby-loving mama doesn't like decking her little monster out in the cutest of trends? I know I do! And BabyLegs come in so many different colors and prints that there is something sure to win the hearts of everyone!
Another thing I LOVE about BabyLegs is that they make diaper changes a breeze! No more struggling with leg snaps and wiggly babies! Just stick your baby in a onesie and a pair of BabyLegs and you're good to go! I also love using BabyLegs to layer with dresses, especially during the spring and fall. Here in Virginia, the weather can be quite odd...One minute it will be freezing, and an hour later it will be balmy and nice. So BabyLegs come in handy here! I can make sure my Princess doesn't turn into a Sophie popsicle by adding BabyLegs to her ensemble in the chilly morning or evening, and then as the day warms up, I can remove them if need be! How convenient is that?
I'm not going to tell you what I received or what one lucky winner will be getting,(Gotta wait till April when my event begins!) but I WILL show you some of my absolute FAVORITE BabyLegs designs! I actually love them all. It is one of my goals to eventually own every single pair of them, since I have a baby girl AND a baby boy to deck in these fabulous duds! That may prove to be a challenge, though, since BabyLegs is always coming out with cute new designs!
Here are some of MY personal favorites:
Now don't you just want to stick your little ones in a pair of BabyLegs? Oh, and I forgot to mention, BabyLegs also carries beautiful tights for your little girl as well as really cute socks, too! And their legwarmers can even be used as arm-warmers! So not only are they too stinkin' adorable for words, they are also highly functional and versatile items that you're sure to fall head over heels in love with!
Just look at my Sophie-Monster in a pair of BabyLegs she got for Christmas! Now tell me you don't just wanna scoop her up and love on her!
Yes that is a goofy purple wig she's sporting...That's how we roll here at Crunchy Mama's house! Now after seeing these awesome baby accessories, don't you want some BabyLegs for your little one? Well, you'll have to wait until the start of my event, but the very generous folks at BabyLegs will be making one lucky follower a VERY happy mama! But if you're interested in gaining an early-bird advantage BEFORE the giveaway madness begins in April, here is your chance to gain some extra, early entries!
I will keep it simple for you all. Please leave all early entries here on this post, as there will be instructions in how to redeem them once Mad About Mama begins!
Even though it's COLD here in Virginia, there is evidence all around that spring is here, and warm weather is fast approaching. We all know what warmer weather means... Wedding season is upon us, family getaways to the beach are getting nearer, as well as many other reasons that force us to bare a little more skin than we do in the winter. I am dreading it, personally. I just had my son, Xander, in January, 12 months after my daughter, Sophie, was born. So I have darn close to 2 years worth of recent pregnancy under my belt, as well as 2 C-sections, and it doesn't leave me feeling very body-confident! You mamas know what I mean. Pregnancy changes a woman's body, and it's not always for the better. I for one have the dreaded belly pooch! I actually acquired it after my 11 year old was born, also by C-section, and it seems that my pooch has taken up permanent residence. (BOO!) I have lost almost 50 lbs since my daughter's birth, and luckily I didn't gain anything with my son that wasn't lost immediately after his birth. But I would still like to shed 20 more pounds by my 30th birthday at the end of June.
I have never been happy with my body, and have been guilty of resorting to very extreme measures to lose weight in the past. That is something I am not proud of at all, and not the example I want to set for my daughter. Yes, the things I did worked, and they worked quickly, but I was doing damage to myself in the process. What good is being thin if you're not healthy? No one looks good when they're sickly, regardless of the number on the scale. There is a ton of pressure nowadays from the media and society in general for women to look a certain way, and I have made the resolution to myself and to my children not to fall too deeply into old habits all in the sake of losing weight. If I lose weight, I am going to try my absolute hardest to do it right. My children deserve a healthy mama!
So as bathing suit season rapidly approaches, and my scale seems to be perpetually STUCK at 147lbs, I have been looking for a good way to shed a few unwanted pounds by summer in a sensible way. So when I was offered the chance to participate in Yoplait Light's Two Week Tune Up plan, I jumped at the chance! I LOVE Yoplait yogurt, and by following their plan, it is quite possible to lose 5lbs in just 2 weeks! And the best part is that this is a program that integrates sound nutritional choices with easy exercise, like walking. Now that it's finally warming up a little bit, I plan on taking the babies out for daily walks in my double-stroller anyway, so this plan will fit beautifully into my lifestyle. And Yoplait Light has so many delicious flavor choices, I know I won't get bored with the foods I am eating. I can literally have a different flavor of Yoplait Light every single day for over a month!

Now here's another one that's great for all the mamas with babies who like pampering their little ones with only the highest quality, tried-and-true, top of the line, eco-friendly baby products. I know I love decking my babies out in the cutest outfits and cloth diapers. There is nothing better than a little squirt with an adorable fluff butt! I also love using products that make my life as a mom easier, all while reducing the carbon footprint of my family.
I would love to introduce you to the next sponsor for my Mad About Mama Mother's Day event! Sandbox Lane is a one-stop shop for all of your eco-friendly baby needs. They carry everything from only the BEST cloth diapers, like Bum Genius and FuzziBunz, and they are one of the few retailers I know of that carry DryBees, a company that makes a phenomenal overnight diaper! They also carry Wahmies wet bags, which I hear are great although I have not had the pleasure of trying them myself. Sandbox Lane is also an authorized Rockin Green retailer. I LOVE Rockin Green. If you haven't tried it yourself, you definitely should!
But that's not all! Sandbox Lane has a HUGE selection of eco-friendly feeding products, like baby food mills, bowls, cups and cutlery made from organic bamboo and natural plant fibers, and they even have BPA Free bottles and sippy cups!
Just look at a few of the wonderful products Sandbox Lane offers:
If that wasn't enough incentive to rush on over to Sandbox Lane, there is so much more! They also carry the softest swaddle blankets from Aden+Anais, and even a wonderful selection of baby clothing made from organically grown cotton, and they also carry one of my not-so-secret addictions: Baby Legwarmers!
AND THAT'S NOT ALL! You should head on over to Sandbox Lane and see for yourself what other treasures you can find. They have a wonderful inventory, and have something to please any green mama! I am so excited to let you all know that the generous folks over at Sandbox Lane will be offering one of my lovely readers a gift certificate to their shop! But not yet! You need to wait until April when my Mad About Mama event begins!
But...For those super-smart mamas who want an early advantage BEFORE the giveaway starts, there are of course, extra entries to be gained!
I will keep it simple for you all. Please leave your extra entries on this post, as there will be instructions on how to redeem them during the Sandbox Lane giveaway during my Mad About Mama event!
