We just bought our first home last summer, and since we FINALLY have our own yard, we have been searching high and low to find things to occupy our kids during warmer months. Yes, before trying I Can't Believe It's Not Butter for everyday cooking, I used butter almost exclusively. Of course I will never completely give up on my organic butter, I have been substituting it with spreads a lot lately. The reason for switching things up? Well, I was growing increasingly concerned about my husband's diet in particular, and was looking for ways to cut back on trans fats and cholesterol.My hubby does not have the best eating habits, and while I cannot prevent him from eating a zillion candy bars while I'm not looking, I can try and cut back on the bad things in the meals that I cook. He is the type that loves butter and uses way too much of it in one sitting, so cooking with spreads seemed like a sensible swap. While visiting itisgoodtoknow.com, I learned that I Can't Believe It's Not Butter has 70% less saturated fat and 30% fewer calories than butter. It also contains no cholesterol or hydrogenated oils, and is rich in Omega-3 ALA. So this seemed like a good way to change his diet without him even realizing it. The meals I have been preparing with spreads have all been big hits here. It melts easily, tastes very buttery, and has even worked well for baking. This surprised me very much, since I have always used butter while baking! My husband has enjoyed the change, and so have my kids. As a matter of fact, my teen loves to help cook, and he asked me if he could come up with his own recipe and share it here. Of course I was happy to oblige. Whether they be seasonal, pet related, or to environmental factors like dust, I suffer constantly. It's really not a lot of fun at all! My first memory of my suffering was from early childhood. He prefers the grape chewables, since he doesn't like swallowing pills, although the other varieties work well, too.   Did you know that June is National Safety Month? Seems pretty fitting, since this is the start of the summer season, and lots of families are going on vacations or day trips. I know we plan to be heading out to the water parks, zoo, and festivals quite a bit this summer, and we want to make sure our home is always safe and secure in our absence.
There are many ways to make sure you're not a target, whether you're on the road or enjoying a nice summer "staycation" right at home. Here are just a few of the safety measures I use in my own home.  Do you have your calendars marked for August 9th yet? That's when Disney PLANES will be soaring onto the big screen. We're totally excited, and will definitely be taking our kids to go see it. (And praying that they don't cause a commotion, since they're only 2 and 3 years old!)
