A lot of my friends suffer from migraines. Some experience them very often while others only seem to get them once in awhile. Any migraine sufferer knows first hand that these intense headaches can be completely debilitating, and can stand in the way of the ability to perform normal tasks. Some people cannot even function when a migraine hits, and have to lay perfectly still in a quiet, dark room. Often, my own migraines are triggered by lack of sleep, or even more commonly, the foods I eat and the things I drink. I have noticed that some of the things that can trigger a migraine for me are champagne, wine, and surprisingly, Chinese take-out. Before I began working with Excedrin Migraine, I was not aware of the fact that diet can be a crucial factor in the frequency of migraines.

***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** See these 2 adorable creatures? They're my youngest children. Sophie is 3, and Xander is 2. When I was expecting them, (which happened to occur back to back...oops!) I felt like I might as well have been a new mother, even though my oldest child is a teen. You see, when I had Kyle, I was very young and honestly didn't think about a lot of things in advance. I kind of took things as they came, and learned along the way. I didn't really try to research much and just did what well-meaning relatives and the pediatrician told me to do. When Sophie and Xander came along, I was much older and a great deal wiser, so of course I wanted to be as informed as possible when it came to everything baby. Plus, with nearly 10 years between my oldest and Sophie, a lot of things had changed. I definitely needed a refresher course, and let's face it: Google is terrifying and can give worried parents a lot of misinformation, if not complete paranoia. (Fun fact: My OBGYN actually banned me from Google during my pregnancy because I was literally driving myself insane with anxiety.) I wish the Suriving Infancy series was around during this time period. It would have given me so much peace of mind, since it covers just about every question or concern new parents may have. From baby gear to nutrition to illnesses, and everything in between, this series explains it all in plain English. The best part? While my kids are not infants anymore, I can still benefit. The series covers the toddler years as well! And trust me, the toddler years have been a real doozy in my home. Sophie broke open a toy and swallowed a button battery on Mother's Day of all days and scared me half to death, and Xander got a hair stuck in his sleeper, and it wrapped around his toe, nearly taking it off. These were things I wasn't even aware could happen...Until they did. Thank God my kids are both okay, but I wish I was more aware of things like this! J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an amazing quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerers.
From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” the first of a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is coming to Blu-ray & DVD March 19th 2013! When I got the opportunity to review the book "Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy" by Emily Bazelon, I literally jumped at the chance. You see, while bullying is an epidemic that is increasingly seen on the news and on social media, it also hits home for me. You see, my teen son was horribly bullied, if not terrorized, from Kindergarten until our recent move to Ohio. (Our move literally saved him. I truly believe this.) Kyle is a great kid...Talented, artistic, intelligent, and very compassionate. He is a pretty good looking kid, too. So why was he bullied? Because he didn't play sports or gravitate towards all of the "normal" things most boys tend to like. He was called gay, a faggot, and much, much worse. He was even physically assaulted quite a few times, and the schools did very little to address the problem. Kyle became depressed and didn't even want to leave the house. As a mom, I felt helpless. Fast forward to today...Kyle is no longer bullied. We left Virginia, partially to give him a new start, and he has tons of friends and even goes outside to hang out with the neighborhood kids. He is a brand new kid! With 2 toddlers, bedtime is not always the easiest time of day. Most of the time, my kids don't want to settle down, and of course tantrums happen. (I have double trouble with a 2 year old AND a 3 year old.) To make matters worse, they always want to stay up and get their "Daddy time" since my husband works odd hours and gets home around 7:30 every evening. So while they might be physically tired, an extra burst of energy always kicks in when Daddy gets home. We've been trying a lot of things to make bedtime go more smoothly. Warm bubble baths, Lavender lotion, and of course some good old fashioned snuggle time. Sometimes it works out well, and sometimes we need a little extra help getting the kids in the mood for slumber. Recently, I discovered a really neat bedtime book that is designed specifically for kids between the ages of about 1.5 to 4. "Tuck Me In!" by Dean Hacohen and Sherry Scharschmidt is a fun way to spend quality time with kids while encouraging them to go to sleep. This beautifully illustrated book features "blankets" that can be moved to tuck various baby animals into bed, snug and sound, all by turning the pages! Now that spring time is here, a lot of folks are catching "wedding fever". Warmer weather means that wedding season officially begins. I know quite a few people that are having summer weddings, and I am so excited to see all of their plans that are in the works. (Gotta love Facebook and Pinterest!)
Now, while I am married and have been for nearly 5 wonderful years, I definitely didn't have the dream wedding I've always wanted. Our wedding was very small, and took place at the reverend's home. I didn't even wear a proper wedding dress. At the time, we just couldn't afford anything lavish. Now that we're settled down and in a home of our own, Dan and I are hoping to plan a vow renewal ceremony. Nothing too extravagant, but we'd love to reaffirm our vows and include family and friends. Of course, we will be needing invitations, and that's where Minted comes in. For one, none of his friends will have the same outfit, and he stands out from the crowd. Also, he loves helping design his own clothes. He really likes fashion, and has his own, unique and often eccentric taste. Recently, we received a custom tee from Customizo. Customizo is an innovative group of sites that help groups with apparel and product design, collaboration and purchasing. With their design tools, group collaboration platform, mobile content integration and centralized hub of fully customizable artwork templates, creating and designing, bringing your designs to life is easy. The tee we received has a bright blue tiger face on it, and it includes very intricate detail. The design is quite vibrant and you could tell that the folks at Customizo take great pride in their work. The shirt itself if very high quality, and even after a few washes looks brand new. There has been no shrinkage, and the colors of the tiger's face have not faded a bit. Kyle really loves his shirt and has worn it all over the place. His friends at school think it's the coolest thing ever, and are totally jealous because they can't just rush out to the store and purchase one of their own. Of course Kyle told them all about Customizo, and I have a feeling we will start seeing more of these tiger tees around town shortly. I have a slight shoe obsession. (Okay, so my husband would probably say it's a major addiction, but so be it... You can never have too many shoes, in my humble opinion!) So with springtime finally here, I have been updating our shoes right along with our spring wardrobes. My main focus has been shoes for the kids. As a mom, I want my kids to have footwear that is not only stylish and vibrant, but also made specifically for little feet. You see, children's feet are not at all the same as adult feet. Their feet are not yet fully developed, so they require different arch support and more stability than adult shoes. This is so important for proper development and the right shoes during childhood can help to prevent foot problems later on in life. Unfortunately, not all footwear manufacturers consider this when designing their children's shoes. That's why I was so excited to learn about the children's footwear from TSUKIHOSHI. This Japanese company has been in the business of providing parents with shoes for their kids that are not only fun, but designed specifically for growing feet. With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share a very tasty yet deceptive candy recipe with you all. I have been making this for years, and it always takes people by surprise. Why is this candy so unique? Well, as you can see it looks just like a bunch of potatoes, which we all know is an Irish staple. In reality, these are made with a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your home. The thing I like the most about this candy is that it's sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. I love the combination of cream cheese, cinnamon, coconut, and confectioner's sugar. It's really quite tasty, and sure to please everyone at your St. Paddy's Day gatherings. |
