Sophie is 3, and Xander is 2. When I was expecting them, (which happened to occur back to back...oops!) I felt like I might as well have been a new mother, even though my oldest child is a teen. You see, when I had Kyle, I was very young and honestly didn't think about a lot of things in advance. I kind of took things as they came, and learned along the way. I didn't really try to research much and just did what well-meaning relatives and the pediatrician told me to do. When Sophie and Xander came along, I was much older and a great deal wiser, so of course I wanted to be as informed as possible when it came to everything baby. Plus, with nearly 10 years between my oldest and Sophie, a lot of things had changed. I definitely needed a refresher course, and let's face it: Google is terrifying and can give worried parents a lot of misinformation, if not complete paranoia. (Fun fact: My OBGYN actually banned me from Google during my pregnancy because I was literally driving myself insane with anxiety.) I wish the Suriving Infancy series was around during this time period. It would have given me so much peace of mind, since it covers just about every question or concern new parents may have. From baby gear to nutrition to illnesses, and everything in between, this series explains it all in plain English. The best part? While my kids are not infants anymore, I can still benefit. The series covers the toddler years as well! And trust me, the toddler years have been a real doozy in my home. Sophie broke open a toy and swallowed a button battery on Mother's Day of all days and scared me half to death, and Xander got a hair stuck in his sleeper, and it wrapped around his toe, nearly taking it off. These were things I wasn't even aware could happen...Until they did. Thank God my kids are both okay, but I wish I was more aware of things like this! About Surviving Infancy : Developed by top physicians Dr. Maureen McCollough and Dr. Diane Birnbaumer, Surviving Infancy™ is a 3-hour 15-minute video guide that presents 36 essential topics covering infant and toddler safety, routine illnesses, common parenting challenges, immunizations and pediatric emergencies including choking first aid and CPR hands-on demonstrations. It was created to help new and expectant parents, grandparents-to-be and child caregivers navigate the often difficult aspects of infancy through the toddler years (0-3 years). Surviving Infancy™ is thought to be the most comprehensive video guide of its kind with unparalleled and authoritative content. One of the things I liked best about this series is that it is super-easy to navigate. You can go directly to whichever segment you're seeking information about. No skipping back and forth or fast-forwarding necessary. So when you're in a panic over the croup or a bee sting, or whatever may be happening, you can get the information you need fast. I also love the fact that this DVD set is that all info is presented by renowned emergency physicians. Watching the DVD feels much like talking to your doctor during a regular visit. But without the co-pay, of course! One thing, the only thing, I did notice was missing was comprehensive info about cloth-diapering. For any of you fluffy mamas out there, you know that delving into the world of cloth has its own unique challenges, and can be quite overwhelming. I would have loved to see more info about this, especially since more and more parents are choosing cloth. Overall, I am incredibly impressed by Surviving Infancy. It is truly loaded with must-have information that every parent, aunt or uncle, grandparent or caregiver needs to know. And since this info comes directly from credible and experienced medical professionals, rest assured it's accurate and up to date. And it won't scare the pants off of you like Google will, either! How To Connect : Parents can pick up a streaming version of the videos for $24.95 or a two disc DVD set for $29.95. Both are available online at www.SurvivingInfancy.com. This is probably the best baby shower gift you could get for expectant parents, and comes in handy for toddlers to age 3 years. You can also connect on Facebook, twitter, and on Pinterest! I love how rewarding it is. What other job in the world offers as many "I love you's", free hugs, complete trusting, and such bold honesty!?

I think it was many things but mostly it was watching them achieve their "firsts" in everything and seeing their joy in doing so. Watching them grow into healthy and content adults who now have their own families. :)

I'm not a parent myself, so I can't say, but a couple very close to me are soon to become first-time parents, and this sounds perfect!
