As a mom, I like to encourage my kids to use their imaginations. It seems that in today's highly digital age, kids are glued to tech devices, video games, and of course, the television. While these things are all perfectly fine in moderation, there is something simply magical about old-fashioned, dramatic play. Yes, I mean toys that require creativity and imagination. Toys without batteries or flashing lights. My kids only have a limited amount of time each day that they're allowed to watch TV, so the rest of the time, we read, make crafts, and engage in creative play. My toddlers love making sculptures, drawing, playing dress-up together, and building structures out of blocks. Not only do they look forward to using their imaginations, they thrive on it in a way that video games and television simply cannot provide. So when I learned about the good old fashioned toys at Manhattan Toy Company, I just knew my kids would be thrilled by them. This great company offers toys that encourage kids to be creative. With Manhattan Toy, children can sail the angry seas as pirates, plant a fairy flower garden, or even play doctor! They also have some great artistic, crafty toys that can help kids with hand-eye coordination and art skills. Here's some more info about Manhattan Toy company, from their website. About Manhattan Toys : Play is discovery and exploration, and joy, and growth, and learning, and so much more. And for us play is serious work. So when we bring play to life, we do it with a commitment to the finest in craftsmanship and creativity. All of our products, from the newest concepts to our time-tested classics, are innovatively designed to inspire imaginative play and delight our consumers large and small. Imagine I Can Toy Review : The generous folks at Manhattan Toy Company sent us a couple of fun products from their Imagine I Can line to review. I chose the Imagine I Can Fairy Enchanted set and the Imagine I Can Lace & Play Fish. I knew Sophie would flip over the fairy kit, and that both kids would enjoy the colorful fishy friend! The Fairy Enchanted kit is absolutely precious. It comes with several great role play accessories, including a magic wand, fairy wings, a floral headband, cute wooden vials that are labeled "Fairy Dust" and "Flower Seeds", and a sweet little silky pouch full of felt flowers. And all of the components fit inside a colorful tin box! Sophie wasted no time at all dressing up as a magical sprite. She looked so cute in her headband and wings, and she loves the wooden wand. The only bad part? Since she's convinced she's a real fairy, she thinks she can fly like Tinkerbell...And she has been trying to leap off of the furniture. Thankfully, there have been no injuries! She even runs around sprinkling fairy dust and flower seeds everywhere, and talks about her "Sophie Fairy Magic". Daddy and I play along, and pretend she's making flowers appear out of thin air. It's really quite cute! We also loved the Lace & Play Fish. This is constructed from a heavy duty cardboard, and comes with the fish body, googly eyes, multi-colored scales, and a durable, plastic string to lace the pieces together with. This product is recommended for ages 3+, but with some help and guidance, my 2 year old, Xander, was able to help put fishy together. I was pretty impressed by how well he was able to put the string into the holes. Of course I had to help weave the pieces together, but he played with this for hours and didn't seem to get frustrated or bored. This is a great crafty item, and definitely helps fine tune hand-eye coordination! Overall, we are loving the Imagine I Can line from Manhattan Toy company. These toys allow my kids to use their imaginations and simply be kids. These toys are wonderful in their simplicity, and have a timeless, nostalgic quality to them. These are the kinds of toys that can easily be passed down through many children without losing their appeal. I would definitely recommend this line to anyone looking for fun ways to encourage kids to be creative. How to Connect : You can check out the awesomeness that is the Manhattan Toy Company on their website, and the Imagine I Can line!
