My home is almost 100 years old, and has a lot of gorgeous, original hardwood. Much of the house has hardwood floors, and we also have great built-in bookshelves, original doors from the 1920's, and a lot of wood trim. We love the amount of character that all of the wood gives our home, but we realize that it requires proper maintenance to keep it looking beautiful. Not all wood cleaners are created equal. Not by a long shot, actually. Many wood cleaning products leave wood vulnerable to warping, cracking, and fading due to the fact that they're watered down and contain waxes or silicones which over time, can harm the wood they're supposed to be preserving. A lot of wood cleaners also leave behind a gross residue that end up making wood appear dull and dirty. That's why I love the products from Scott's Liquid Gold. This American company has been around for 60 years, and they are committed to bringing only the highest quality of products into the homes of their customers. They offer a wide range of products that are designed specifically to clean, polish, and bring back the original splendor of wood. Whether it be hardwood floors, kitchen cabinets, or even coffee tables and other furniture, these products do their job well, while remaining gentle to the wood.

If you're anything like us, you look forward to the Super Bowl. Not only do the best of the best battle it out to win the championship, there is also usually tons of great food, friends, and maybe even some beer or cocktails. We're Bears fans, and well...Let's just say we didn't do so well this year. As usual, our defense rocked but our offense was lacking. (Which is probably why head coach Lovie Smith no longer has a job!) Anyway, we're looking forward to the big game, and I am already planning some fun menu items to help celebrate. As I make them, I will share them here! Of course a lot of these recipes will be man-friendly, so be sure to pin them and save them for get-togethers, anniversaries, and poker nights! The first recipe I'd like to share is one my husband devoured in minutes...He loves Bratwurst, he loves bacon, and he loves beer. This is a wonderful marriage of the three! And they're super-easy to make! Want the recipe? Keep reading! My husband is the world's biggest chocoholic. No, really....He is...He will eat an entire chocolate cream pie in one sitting, and has been known to devour a huge 5lb Hershey's bar in just a few hours. It's actually pretty gross, in my opinion, but to each their own! My husband loves my cooking, but often tells me he would love for me to make more desserts. I have never been into sweets, so I never took up baking. One of my New Year's resolutions is to bake at least once a week, and I will be sharing my recipes here! Today, I made a Black Forest Cake. It was very easy, and is stunning to look at. The flavor? AH-MAZING! This would be perfect for that special someone on Valentine's Day! Want the recipe? Keep reading! As the mom of a teen, one thing I hear a lot of complaints about is acne. My soon to be 13 year old, Kyle, has started experiencing more breakouts recently, and they have been really distressing to him. I try and explain that pimples are simply a reality at his age, and that they're caused by those pesky hormones that accompany puberty. I hate these conversations, because they serve as a constant reminder that my "baby" is no longer a baby at all. When we talk about hormones and their physical effects, Kyle's response is usually pretty amusing, since I recall having the same feelings at his age...."But Mom, that's not fair. Puberty makes you start wanting to date, and if I am covered in ooey-gooey zits, who is going to want to date me?!" (Yes, he really calls them ooey-gooey...I guess my little boy is still in there, somewhere!) We have tried several different products to help keep breakouts at bay. Many of them worked, and worked well. The problem we encountered is that so many of these systems require several steps, and most teens simply do not have the patience or the motivation to do something every single day that requires so much work. In a word, teens can be lazy. Especially boys! So it came as no surprise when Kyle started getting lax in his skin care routine. Happy New Year, Everyone!!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to 2013...We survived the Mayan Apocalypse, avoided the Fiscal Cliff, and have made it through another (stressful) Holiday season!
I just wanted to do a little something to thank all of you for being awesome, so I have 4 $50 Walmart gift cards to give one lucky reader! I get a LOT of gift cards over the course of a year, so I would love to share these in hopes of a prosperous New Year full of new beginnings! My kids have a lot of toys....Too many, perhaps! One child usually has a lot of toys, but we have two toddlers, a boy and a girl, so our home reminds me a lot of a well-stocked FAO Schwartz. (Okay, so that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point.) We have 5 or 6 large toy boxes, yet somehow it still looks like a tornado deposited all of the toys in the neighborhood on our floor a good part of the time. We end up cleaning the family room five or six times a day. While many toys stay home at all times, there are certain toys my tots like to take with them wherever we go, whether it be to the park or on a trip to Grandma's house. We simply HAVE to bring their sock-monkeys, Charlie and Andrew, and nothing would be right in the world if we forgot their MobiGo or InnoTab. (In fact, a downright tantrum would occur!) Oh, and of course we have to bring some building blocks or other construction toys....And cars...And maybe a doll or three. But lugging around an arsenal of toys can be a pain. Our diaper bags only have so much room, and much of that space is dedicated to diapers, wipes, extra clothes, and snacks. This leaves very little room for toys!
