Calling all young Potterheads! Make magic in the kitchen with easy, friendly recipes designed for kid chefs and inspired by the Harry Potter series.
Introducing The Unofficial Hogwarts Cookbook for Kids: 50 Magically Simple, Spellbinding Recipes for Young Witches and Wizards [978-1646041817; $17.95; Ulysses Press; August 2021] by Alana Al-Hatlani, a new hardcover cookbook packed with 50 delicious recipes, easy step-by-step instructions, and spellbinding full-color photographs.

Perfect for any Harry Potter fan,The Unofficial Hogwarts Cookbook for Kids will have aspiring witches and wizards brewing potions, baking stellar treats, and cooking creative dishes in no time. From breakfast all the way to dessert, this book makes any meal or snack extra special (and educational!), with recipes like Rock Cakes, Granola Bars “Owl Food,” Pumpkin Soup, Magic Star Fruit Salad, Fish & Chips, Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes, Acid Lollipops, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Butterscotch Beer and much more!

The Unofficial Hogwarts Cookbook for Kids is the perfect primer to get the young chefs-in-training active in the kitchen with their parents. As a family, you’ll have fun learning cooking terms and kitchen skills with recipes that range in complexity so that all kid chefs and their potions masters (or parents) can whip up something amazing.
Recently, the kids decided to make a quick and easy lunch using recipes from this awesome cookbook. They played it pretty safe, and chose classic Grilled Cheese sandwiches and a "Banana Breakfast Potion", since sometimes magic is needed in the afternoon as well.

Hey, I don't make the rules, and rules are made to be broken.

This book is great, as it has wonderful photos and simple, easy to understand instructions. Each recipe is well thought out, kid-friendly, and sure to help kids forge a love for all things culinary. I love that there are helpful tips included in these recipes, such as using a lid if your cheese isn't melting quickly enough. This helps kids avoid common cooking mistakes and helps to build confidence in the kitchen!

My kiddos are 10 and 11, and are pretty comfortable making easy meals. This is the first time they have made Grilled Cheese themselves, and it was also the first time they operated the blender all on their own. (We were in the room supervising, of course.) They had a blast measuring ingredients, chopping fruits, and watching their lunch come to life.

Their Grilled Cheese sandwiches were absolutely divine. They were cheesy, buttery, and screamed comfort food. You just can't go wrong with a classic Grilled Cheese, in my humble opinion.

The Banana Breakfast Potion was also a hit. This is basically a strawberry banana smoothie with Greek Yogurt and a touch of Manuka Honey. This came out great, and had so much flavor. The kids actually went back for another serving, they loved it so much! This will definitely be on our regular recipe rotation.

Overall, we really love this fun, Harry Potter inspired cookbook. There are tons of easy to prepare recipes that the whole family will love. Many of them are obviously inspired by Harry Potter....Some, not so much. That's okay, though, as this is truly a very well-rounded, basic cookbook for the budding chef in your life. With recipes for all meals, drinks, and even desserts, your children might even start preparing meals for the whole fam to enjoy!

Definitely be sure to check this out! It would be a great way to incorporate Home Economics and life skills into this new school year as well!
