If one thing is for certain, these are unprecedented times. The summer of 2020 will go down in history as being one of the least "normal" seasons ever, and maybe even one of the scariest times, too. To be completely frank, 2020 as a whole has been pretty defective, and I'd really love a refund.
Even though things aren't typical this summer, we have been trying to make the most of things with our family. Of course, we're choosing our activities carefully and based on risk, and we're ALWAYS playing it safe. Sadly, I know quite a few people with this virus, and not all of them have a good prognosis. I'm not taking any chances with my health or the health of my family. Safety simply must come first, and we've adopted some Summer Fun Best Practices for the Summer of 2020 and beyond.....Or at least until the world is back to "normal" again. We wear masks any time we're around others, especially in indoor spaces. We don't shop with the kids in tow. We even mask up outdoors, should be we anywhere that we might come within 6 feet of other people. We limit touching surfaces at places like the Zoo, and we make sure to keep our hands away from our faces at all times.
We also make sure to wash our hands with soap and hot water multiple times a day, as this is one of the most effective ways to protect against illness. When we're not able to do so, we make sure to use a good, safe, high quality hand sanitizer like Ultra Defense Sani+Smart Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer. More about that later.
We also try and limit our activities to things that are outdoors and away from other people. We've loved hiking at our beautiful parks, going to the zoos, exploring haunted places like Lake View Cemetery and the Ohio State Reformatory, and just hanging out at home, enjoying the deck and the pool. We love adding some fun to the mix by playing Pokemon Go during our adventures. We have added tons of awesome finds to our Pokedex by exploring far and wide, and this is a really fun way to spend quality time as a family while practicing good social distancing. Recently, we decided to head to Squire's Castle, which is part of the Cleveland Metroparks. Squire's Castle is a shell of a building located in the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. This building and its grounds are absolutely gorgeous, and it's reportedly home to some spirits, if you're into that kind of thing. Squire's Castle is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy a picnic, go hiking on the grounds, and yes, play some Pokemon go as well. We had a blast exploring the site, enjoying some sandwiches, and catching tons of Pokemon. There were very, very few people around, and everyone was practicing ample social distancing. It really is the perfect place to spend some time away from home during these weird times, even if you're doing everything you can to avoid exposure to illness. Please note: While there are restrooms/port-a-potties on site, buildings may or may not be locked. There is a very good chance that you won't have easy access to a sink for handwashing. Yes, even here, it's a good idea to wash hands well after coming into contact with various surfaces. Better safe than sorry. Check out our photos from our trip:
Now back to hand sanitizer, since it's probably an awesome idea to have some packed in your bag when visiting Squire's Castle.
My favorite kind? Well, I've been absolutely loving my Ultra Defense Sani+Smart Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer with Vitamin E. Yes, I just said MOISTURIZING hand sanitizer, and I did not stutter. Sounds crazy, right? This is a game changer, because it doesn't dry the skin or cause irritation the way a lot of alcohol based sanitizers can. It also smells super nice rather than like some bottom shelf Tequila...Blech....Yes. I have actually encountered some truly vile sanitizer that smells like a bar. Not a fan. Thankfully, Ultra Defense Sani+Smart smells pleasant, like your favorite soap or lotion might. No harsh odor, and no one will think you've had too much to drink after using it. In a world where every. single. person. uses a hand sanitizer multiple times a day, it causes a global shortage – as we all witnessed. Companies from other industries had to step in to fill the void and follow a recipe from the CDC in order to fulfill the tremendous amount of requests – alcohol distilleries, perfumeries, color cosmetic brands, and contract manufacturers are now producing sanitizing products. When the FDA continues to issue recalls for the inclusion of potentially toxic ingredients, we all need a hand sanitizer that is safe, effective and pleasant to use. Introducing Ultra Defense Sani + Smart... a completely safe line of sanitizing solutions that feature best in class formulas to kill 99.99% of germs and leave hands feeling soft. When the pandemic hit, the team at Ultra Defense answered the call and immediately ramped up production on their top-of-the-line sanitizing solutions. With so many toxic sanitizers being pulled from retail shelves, you can safely trust Ultra Defense to get the job done.
We've been loving this product line, and I consider it to be a must have for outings, trips to the store, or any time you don't have easy access to soap and water for handwashing. It leaves my hands clean, soft, and there's no residue or irritation to be found. This is definitely a quality product, and one I feel good about using for my family.
You can learn more about Ultra Defense Sani+Smart Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer on their website. You can also follow on Facebook, on twitter, and on Instagram to stay on top of their latest news, products, and promotions. WIN an Ultra Defense Sani+Smart Bundle :

Being as we are in our early 70s with health issues, we have been staying home and being very careful when we do have to go out for groceries.

That sounds like it was fun. I am trying to keep my sanity last few months. This sounds like a great a hand sanitizer. I have been making my guy keep it in his work truck because he is a contractor/ small business owner and has to be around a lot of people on a daily basis. And making it at home when we can't find it in the stores here.

It sounds like you are having a fun summer making memories while staying safe. We haven't done too much this summer. I think I'm still a little afraid to go to crowded places.

We carry hand sanitizer with us in our pockets/purse and in the car. We also have wipes with us at all times and always wear a mask when we are out. We wash our hands frequently and sanitize items and surfaces as necessary. We stay home except for necessary trips for shopping and errands.

I wish I could see an end in sight, it would make all the changes easier to put up with. Most of the stuff is just a hassle, but eventually it'll become a way of life and it won't bother me at all. I'm not quite at that stage yet....
