Do you have some Holiday shopping to do, but want to find gifts that are unlike what you'd find at the big box retailers? Maybe you want something inspired. Something global. Something created, with love, by master artisans all over the world?
That's why I absolutely love, love, LOVE Novica. You see, Novica, in association with National Geographic, offers a wide variety of products that you simply cannot find in stores. The reason you won't ever find Novica's products at big box retailers is because these items are hand-crafted by skilled artisans in towns and villages around the world. Novica simply acts as a middle-man of sorts, allowing their customers to enjoy beautiful, unique pieces made by true artists. Each piece is unique, lovingly made, and offers a ton of multi-cultural flavor. I spent hours browsing the Novica website, and was in absolute awe of the sheer variety of treasures to be found. There are so many categories to choose from, you'll be sure to find something to please every person in your life, and at every price point. Some of the things I love the most are the face masks and the multitude of handcrafted art sculptures. I also love the Alpaca sweaters and all of the great tableware!
We ultimately chose to purchase these beautiful "Whirling Aquamarine" Highball Glasses from the glass blowing MASTERS, Javier and Efrén. We have some of their wine and cocktail glasses, so we knew we'd be getting incredible quality at an amazing value with this choice.
Javier and Efrén achieve a fabulous effect with the dynamic design of this set of six highball glasses. Each glass is crafted with traditional blown glass techniques, in which artisans blow through a metal pipe while twirling it with one hand. They simultaneously shape the molten glass at the other end while expertly achieving a whirling effect in aquamarine and white. Because each piece is handmade, shape and size can vary slightly and tiny bubbles may appear within the glass. This exemplifies the hand-blown technique, making every piece a unique example of blown glass craftsmanship.
When our glasses arrived, they were extremely well-packaged and were all intact. As we unpacked them, we "oohed" and "ahhed" at how absolutely fabulous our glasses were. The quality of Javier and Efren's work is amazing, and you can tell that they come from a rich tradition of glass blowing. The glasses were beautiful, heavy duty, substantial in size, and completely flawless. We especially enjoy the slight variations between the 6 glasses. The swirls varied, and there are small bubbles within the glasses. This just adds to the hand-crafted charm, in my opinion!
We use these glasses for everything from ice water to juice to seasonal favorites like Eggnog. (Which is coincidentally the ONLY way I don't mind consuming eggs, haha) These glasses are durable, absolutely stunning, and made to the highest level of quality you'd hope to find. Yep, these artisans know their stuff, and I am thrilled that, thanks to Novica, I can get them sent to my doorstep, directly from the artisans in Mexico!
Overall, we are very, very impressed by the quality of the global treasures found at Novica. I cannot wait to order more from this amazing company. We got a taste of Mexico this time, but perhaps next I will try something from India or maybe the far east. I definitely love their jewelry, so maybe one of their Jade necklaces would be in order! I would definitely recommend Novica to anyone who is looking for special gifts that are sure blow away the recipient. These items are also wonderful for those who appreciate beauty from all different cultures. When shopping with Novica, you're not only giving a one-of-a-kind, unique gift, you're also helping to support skilled artisans around the world and keeping their traditions alive. This year we aren't able to visit family like usual, so we're doing video calls with the kids and sending cards and letters.
