It’s time to express yourself when Sony Pictures Animation’s THE EMOJI MOVIE arrives for the first time on Digital on October 10 and on Blu-ray + Digital and DVD on October 24 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The animated comedy unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak (Anna Faris). Together, they embark on an epic “app-venture” through the apps on the phone, each its own wild and fun world, to find the code that will fix Gene. But when a greater danger threatens the phone, the fate of all emojis depends on these three unlikely friends who must save their world before it’s deleted forever. THE EMOJI MOVIE features an all-star voice cast including T.J. Miller (How To Train Your Dragon) as Gene Meh, James Corden (“Late Late Show with James Corden”) as Hi-5, Anna Faris (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) as Jailbreak, Maya Rudolph (Big Hero 6) as Smiler, Steven Wright (Louie) as Mel Meh, Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie, Legally Blonde) as Mary Meh, Jake T. For additional information, go tohttp://www.sonypictures.com. Our Thoughts:The Emoji Movie is a big hit in my home. The biggest, actually....In fact, it's my 7 year old daughter's favorite movie in the whole wide world right now. This is not an exaggeration, either. She has seen it many, many times in just a short period of time, and will literally watch it 2 or 3 times in a row. When I asked the kids what they liked best about The Emoji Movie, they said they enjoyed it because it makes them laugh....A LOT. There's some rude and crude humor in this film that my kiddos happen to find hilarious. I mean, one of the characters is Poop. Enough said. Don't worry, Moms and Dads, there's nothing TOO explicit or inappropriate. I am totally fine with both my 6 and 7 year olds seeing this movie. It's not THAT offensive. Another thing we like about The Emoji Movie is the fact that it helps teach kids to listen to, identify, and cope with the oh-so-vast range of human emotions. Feelings can be confusing, especially to kids, so anything that helps in the development of emotional intelligence is alright in my book! Overall, we give The Emoji Movie 4.5/5 Stars. I'm a curmudgeon. My feeling is that if you need to add emojis to clarify or defang your comment/text message/whatever, then you should rewrite it. Not a fan.
