Even though this isn't your typical Holiday season, it's still a good idea to keep with certain traditions. We stayed home for Christmas, and spent it together, just us and the kiddos. Normally, we celebrate by attending a XXMas concert in Cleveland, followed by a trip to an indoor waterpark resort for Christmas Eve and Day. Obviously, this is 2020. None of that happened. Our traditions were not in the realm of possibility, so we made the most of spending the Holidays at home.
Since we were going to be hanging around the house so much this season, we decided to still make sure our home was Holiday Ready. Company isn't necessary to spruce things up a bit, so we did it for our own enjoyment. We typically try and do a deep cleaning in the colder months, anyway.
We live in a 100 year old Century home, which has tons and tons of character and loads of original woodwork. Check out the built-ins in what the kids call our "Library". This is actually the formal living room, and where they play their XBOX and watch Disney+. The "Kid's Lounge", if you will. And yes, I keep a large portion of my books here as well. Since we have so much wood in our home, we've been using Scott's Liquid Gold products for years, and love how these wood care products make our wood surfaces shine like nothing else. But this season? We're thrilled to try the newest addition to the Scott's Liquid Gold family: ONE CLEAN HOME®. ![]()
Scott’s Liquid Gold ONE CLEAN HOME® is a new multi surface cleaner formulated for wood and more! That's right! This is multi-purpose and can be used around the house, not just on your wood!
ONE CLEAN HOME® uses naturally occurring, non-toxic citric acid to clean all kinds of household messes for cleaning that makes you feel good, while remaining totally safe for your kids and pets! ONE CLEAN HOME Works on all types of hard surfaces, and effortlessly cleans greasy, grimy, gritty, goopy messes. (If you've got kids, you know exactly what I'm talking about.) The cool part? This has a foaming, no-drip formula that stays where you put it. No running or weird splotches! ONE CLEAN HOME also has a fresh, clean grapefruit scent that definitely makes the house smell crisp and welcoming.
I especially love pairing ONE CLEAN HOME with my Scott's Liquid Gold Wood Care products, since I can deep clean first, and treat the wood with wood care products.
This comes in especially handy as a pet owner. It helps keep the cats' litter box area looking and smelling nice, even though there are 2 literal "toilets" in the vicinity. I am a bit of a germ freak, so going double duty on the cleaning of this area definitely makes me feel like my home is cleaner and more inviting for the Holidays.
Scott's Liquid Gold definitely helps make our home look, feel, and smell much more homey, particularly during the Holiday season. These products bring out a shine and richness in our wood surfaces that look amazing with Christmas lights or even a crackling fire. It helps set the scene and make the Holidays...Well...Just a little more magical.

My tip has to do with after holiday storage. I put all of my wreaths and garland in big clear plastic recycle bags and hang them from hooks in the garage.

I always make sure to clean and dust (even behind furniture) before putting up decorations.

Give candles at least 12 inches of clearance on all sides, and display them on sturdy bases protected by hurricane globes.

My only tip is to clean before you decorate! It makes it easier to do if everything is already clean!

If you decide to go out of town during the holidays, be sure to notify a trusted neighbor. Ask them to keep an eye on your house and report any suspicious activity.

Never use electric lights on a metallic tree. The tree can become charged with electricity from faulty lights, and a person touching a branch could be electrocuted.

Focus on specific areas that will be easily viewable by guests but aren't likely to get dirty again.
