Back to school season is officially here! Luckily, my toddlers are still too young for school right now. We just moved to another state this past weekend, so we're swamped with so many things that need to be done. We're still unpacking, assembling furniture, and settling into our home. Another thing we need to do is buy all of Kyle's school apparel and supplies. It's enough to make my head spin right now! This year, we will be buying all of Kyle's school clothing and shoes at JCPenney. Why? Not only because they have hot fashion at affordable prices but also because they've teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of America to help benefit a very worthy cause. For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) has provided kids with a safe haven and fun, highly engaging activities to help them develop the creativity and confidence necessary to succeed in school. Through programs geared towards education, leadership development, arts and fitness, BGCA helps young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. With the back-to-school season around the corner, preparations have begun at Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide for the influx of students throughout the year. To make sure all kids, especially those in need, are prepared for academic success this year, BGCA has launched the Tools for Back to School initiative . Having worked in the public school system before, I have seen firsthand many students whose families did not have means to purchase the supplies they needed for the year. How can you help? Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and Disney have partnered to launch the Tools for Back to School initiative. This initiative features a pop-quiz style game, where supplies are donated to BGCA for every correct answer you score. Not only is this a fun way to test your trivia skills, you're also helping a fantastic cause. Every child deserves the best chance at an education, and the generous folks at the BGCA are committed to helping make that dream come true for so many students. How cool is that?! So when you visit jcpenney in August, join jcp cares and round up your purchase to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs. You can help give deserving students a head start at a successful academic year! In addition, the BGCA website features a plethora of educational resources and content, offering numerous ways for Moms and Dads to engage and support the organization. BGCA offers different educational content and tip sheets for parents to download and utilize. You can find them on the left hand side of the BGCA site under the Get Ready header. ***Disclosure:I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Boys and Girls Club. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.*** LINCOLN focuses on the last four months of the president's life and the political strategizing he undertook at the close of the Civil War to ensure that slavery would be forever outlawed. “Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition,” Spielberg says.

Like LINCOLN on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/LincolnMovie We just moved from Virginia to Ohio this week. I am so happy to be home, too! One thing I noticed right away when we arrived at our new home is that the climate is definitely different up north than it was in Virginia. This ,means I will be putting the vast majority of my summer wardrobe into storage while I break out all of my fall clothing. Here in Ohio, it tends to be chilly in the mornings and evenings, and this is something I am definitely not used to! One thing I look forward to each fall is the change in fashion. While summer is flirty and vibrant, fall is more rich and elegant, in my humble opinion. I love the darker hues that are so popular in the autumn. Some of my favorite colors to wear in the fall include reds, browns, grays, and of course purples. Some of my favorite dresses all year round can be found at Shabby Apple, an online boutique of women's dresses. The thing I love most about this amazing shop is the simple, understated sophistication found in their garments. Everything they carry is feminine, modest, and elegant. Their clothing almost reminds me of a bygone era when Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth graced magazine covers. They really seem to have that classic pin-up feel. They're sexy, but not revealing. In a word, classy. Their dresses are suitable for both casual and special occasions and can be dressed up with just a few accessories. The site also sells some very vintage looking jewelry that can help tie your look together. Oh, and I can't forget about the shoes! Shabby Apple has some of the most drool-worthy shoes I have ever seen. And let's face it: A girl can never have too many pairs of cute shoes. Here are just a few of my favorite Shabby Apple picks for fall. I just love the colors and vintage designs! My family loves yogurt. A lot! I keep at least 20 cups of yogurt on hand at all times for breakfasts, smoothies, or just a tasty, nutritious snack. My kids love yogurt with fruit and granola, and I love using plain yogurt in cooking. It makes a fantastic substitute for sour cream! Yogurt has always been a great go-to healthy snack for young children. Yet, as of late, Greek Yogurt seems to be gaining an even larger fan base and new found popularity as it is even packed with even more nutrients than yogurt and has a delicious and unique taste. Greek Yogurt has nearly double the protein than regular yogurt and has half the amount of sodium found in regular yogurti. In addition,Greek Yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt which makes it a great way to fill up without excess snacking. That's why I was absolutely thrilled when I learned that Earth's Best Organic has come out with a new line of Greek Yogurt Smoothies! I happen to love Greek yogurt. It's tangy, very creamy, and has a unique flavor to it that just makes my mouth water. If you've never tried it Greek, you're missing out on something special. I know it's been quite quiet around here this past week. I hear the crickets chirping myself! Well, the reason for my brief hiatus is because we have moved from Virginia to Ohio this past weekend. This is something we have wanted to do for a very long time, and it feels wonderful to finally be in a home that's truly ours in a community that puts families first. We chose a great time to move, too, since it's my town's Bicentennial Celebration week and there are fun festivals, parades, live music, and activities happening all around town. It's pretty cool because we live very close to the riverfront and can actually hear the bands as they play! We also smell the fresh bread baking at a Schwebel's bread factory that's a block or two from us. But that, my friends, is another post entirely! Moving is always very hectic and stressful. Our move was a nightmare! For one, we did not get everything fully packed in time. We were rushing to fill last minute boxes with anything that would fit into them. We also came to the realization that even with a 26ft moving truck, the bed of my Dad's Ford F-150, the back of Dan's Suburban and the entire interior of my Mercedes E350, we did not have enough room for our ridiculous amount of stuff. And this is AFTER giving away loads of things for free like our patio furniture, grill, Bowflex and treadmill. Eeeek! So right now while I am home with the babies and trying to unpack, my husband and my 12 year old are back in Virginia at the old house cleaning up and grabbing the last of our belongings. They've rented a 6x12 U-Haul trailer, so hopefully they'll be able to fit everything. I know the kids would love to have their bikes and our lawnmower is desperately needed around here! Hopefully they'll get everything done quickly and be on their way back home tonight! How do you keep your home green, healthy, and toxin-free? Here, we try and do as much as possible. We cloth diaper, recycle, and we buy organic foods whenever they're available. Locally sourced? Even better! We also use green household supplies and personal care products and buy clothing and toys made from renewable, sustainable materials. These small changes can make a big impact on the overall well being of the family as well as on the environment. Going green and making more responsible choices is easy, too!
