It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and that start of the school year is just around the corner! As you and your children begin to gear up for the new school year, it is important to plan out school lunches together in order to discuss the best healthy choices that will still please your child. My son is 12, and he is going into the 7th grade this year. He is anxious about starting school in a whole new state, and he's excited to meet new people and make new friends. I don't think he's prepared for the winter time, though. Here in Ohio, kids go to school even when there's snow on the ground. In Virginia where he's lived his whole life, they'll shut the entire county down if they're calling for an inch. Anyway, one way I am preparing Kyle for the new school year is by stocking up on nutritious snacks he can stick in his bookbag. My son is a growing boy, and I want to make sure he has enough fuel to get him through the day. He has a pretty big appetite and usually requires a couple of small snacks throughout the day. Rather than load him up with candy or chips, I like to find options that are organic and free of preservatives, chemicals and GMO's. Earth’s Best has a variety of products for growing children that are delicious, nutritious and are also the perfect size to pop in a lunch box! Earth’s Best Sunny Day Snack Bars are naturally sweetened cereal bars filled with real fruit! Sunny Day Snack Bars come in two delicious flavors, strawberry and apple and are individually wrapped, making them perfect for on-the-go kids. Sunny Day Snack Bars are also excellent sources of calcium, iron, zinc and contain six B vitamins. Even my toddlers love them! I am head over heels for Mommy Bear Media, and I am thrilled to be one of their Premier Bloggers. It seems that every time I visit their website, I find more and more fantastic family friendly movies and television shows that my own brood would adore. Mommy Bear Media is an online shop that is dedicated to helping families choose the best, good clean movies for their families. It can be quite a chore screening every movie and television show for inappropriate material like sex, drugs, language and violence. Mommy Bear Media takes the guesswork out of this process, as they carefully select movies that are suitable for even the youngest viewers. My latest find from Mommy Bear Media is the Special 30th Anniversary Edition of School House Rock! I remember singing along with "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just A Bill" when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun to sing and dance along, and a wonderful way to learn things like history, letters, math, and more. I was super excited to see that this DVD was available and that my kids can rock along with School House Rock just like their mama did ages and ages ago! We've been in our new home in Ohio for just over a week now. I wish I could say we're unpacked and settled in....I wish I could say I knew where everything went and everything was tidily in its place. I wish I could say I even knew where my razors were so I could rid my legs of their annoying stubble. In reality, we're still surrounded by piles and piles of boxes. Some are opened, waiting to be put away, while others are yet to be touched. None of my house LOOKS like a home yet. It looks more like a big storage unit! The worst part? None of the boxes are organized. They just don't make sense. Kitchenwares mixed with clothing and baby toys? Yep, the husband packed most of our things. No labels. No organization. Just random things placed in boxes. I am so thankful we own our home and will not have to move for a long, long time. It has been really overwhelming trying to make sense of everything while taking care of 2 toddlers, trying to get my 12 year old to help, and now chasing THREE dogs around. (That's another post entirely!) Add to that trying to cook when I can't find half of my things, trying to clean up the many, many messes my kids make in a day, and trying to make the time to blog? I have to admit, I am more than a little bit stressed out and exhausted. First and foremost, I must state the following fact: I am a carnivore. I LOVE a thick, juicy steak...Or a nice burger...Or a roast...Or maybe some tasty grilled chicken. That's right. We eat meat in this house. I know a lot of you may be vegetarians, which I applaud, but that's just not us. I actually tried to give up meat once for the health benefits of being a vegetarian, and I lasted all of a week before I broke down and HAD to have a slice of deep-dish pepperoni pizza.I just couldn't give up the meat.Call it lack of willpower, but I am and always will be a meat lover. So this post will involve tasty critters. However, this sauce is an amazing addition to veggies and Boca Burgers, so my plant-eating friends, please stick around. Have you heard of Country Bob's? If you're an avid blog reader like me, I am sure you have seen the name Country Bob's all over the place, and have been curious about what makes their sauces superior to the myriad of sauces available at your local supermarket. In the past several months, I have read about their famous sauces all over the blogosphere, and everyone seems to rave about how wonderful this sauce is. The star of the show is, of course, their Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce. Actually, the great thing about this sauce is that it is MORE than just a condiment. It can also be used in recipes as an ingredient. It definitely lives up to its name as an all-purpose sauce. Here is some info about the company, from their website: In 1968 Country Bob perfected the sauce of his dreams. After years of giving the sauce to friends and family he began to sell it in 1977. The reaction was overwhelming just as it is today. Almost everyone who tries Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce becomes a lifelong user. And why not, it is the perfect complement to practically any meal set on your table. It was actually October of 1982 when Country Bob, Inc. became the company, which remains today. Bob Edson, Terry Edson, Al Malekovic and Reed Malekovic formed a corporation with equal ownership. Since that time Country Bob's distribution has magnified regionally in all directions from our corporate office located in Centralia, Illinois. Even with the tremendous growth we have not forgotten where we came from, continuing in our relentless pursuit of product excellence. Along with our All Purpose Sauce we have expanded our product line to include BBQ Sauce, Seasoning Salt and Spicy All Purpose Sauce. With our fully automated bottling line we also have the capability of producing Private Label products for stores or restaurants. It would be nice if we could claim responsibility for the success of the company, however, credit must be given where credit is due. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." We have placed true ownership of Country Bob, Inc. in the hands of God. "Christ is our CEO" and He is an Awesome Boss! I received 2 bottles of their famous All Purpose Sauce to review. My sauce arrived quickly, and was very well packaged. I was so excited to open it up and try it out! I even made a special occasion of it and headed out to the store to buy some ribs to try it out on. (I am super-frugal, and steaks and ribs are a rare occurrence in my household, unless they're on sale for some ridiculously low price.) Needless to say, the hubby was thrilled to have an excuse to eat a nice, juicy steak, and he was even more thrilled to be able to try Country Bob's with it! I made oven cooked ribs, which were moist, juicy, and fall off of the bone tender. I kept it simple and just hit the ribs with a rub made from some spices, as well as Country Bob's. Here's the recipe! Mom Powered Media proudly presents the Bounciest Giveaway Ever! The Castle Bounce N' Slide w/hoop is a spacious bounce house with castle top keeps your kids active all year round. Panicking yet? I am...Just a little! I still need to enroll Kyle into school as well as buy his school supplies. I have ordered his clothing and shoes, so at least I have something accomplished amidst all of the chaos that is my life while transitioning to living in another state. We have only been here a week and have been unpacking, so now we're rushing to get everything done in time. It's been a little overwhelming, but I think we just may be able to pull it off. I just need to find my SuperMom cape and magic wand. I think it's somewhere in the 50 or so boxes that still need to be unpacked.... Anyway, I love everything about back to school time. Normal bed times commence, my days are a little bit quieter, and my 12 year old gets the chance to make new friends and learn new things. Oh wait...There IS one thing about returning to school that I don't like. As a matter of fact, I dread it. It's enough to make me want to take a Mom-Cation to somewhere tropical and exotic until the threat has passed and it's safe to return to the home front. You see, every single year, shortly after the beginning of the school year, someone in my home gets sick. And then another, and another until we're all miserable and feeling like walking death. The culprit? Those pesky germs that Kyle is being exposed to when he walks into school. All of the sudden, there are hundreds of other kids around him, (and we all know that kids are germ-magnets) and these germs inevitably get brought home with him. So this year, I am sending him off into the world with a germ-fighting arsenal. I am giving him Wet Ones Antibacterial Hand Wipes to stop germs, viruses and bacteria in their tracks before they make it home to my family. Let's face it: Kids can be forgetful and may not always remember to wash their hands often enough. Sometimes they may not even be able to, like when outdoors. That's how Wet Ones comes to the rescue. Make sure to visit our fantastic co-hosting blogs This Mama Knows, To Sew With Love and Life With Levi. Since we just spent an insane amount of money purchasing our house and moving, I am looking for as many ways as possible to save money on the things we need as we settle into our new home in Ohio. Even though we already have a lot of stuff, when you move into a new house, there always seems to be something else you end up needing. We need to purchase a snow-blower to prepare for the brutal winters, a weed-eater to somehow tame our overgrown yard, and we also need various home improvement products and décor items. One way I keep our costs low is by finding free coupon codes to use online and in stores. With so many couponing info and resources online, it can be challenging to find a good directory of discount codes in one place. I have spent hours looking for specific codes in the past, and just jumped from site to site, never finding what I was looking for. That’s why I was so excited when I stumbled across CouponCodes4u.com. This is a huge online database of coupon codes and discounts from all of your favorite retailers. The coupons are always current and aren’t full of dead and expired links. I have found so many ways to save by using this site. They have every shopping category imaginable, so you can find savings on anything you could possibly be looking for. Back to school savings? Check! Getting married soon? There are discounts on bridal and wedding supplies, too! Or maybe you’re planning that dream vacation? Well, this site has deals for that, too! I was able to get coupons for Amazon so I could finally get that gorgeous area rug for my new living room at a deep discount. I plan on using more Amazon coupons for Kyle’s school supplies soon, as well as proper winter apparel for my family. We have been in Virginia for so long that I think our first Ohio winter will be hard to adapt to! Another thing we’re saving a bundle on is home improvement items. Our home is gorgeous, but it is also almost 100 years old. So naturally, certain things could really use some updating. We will use promo codes for Grainger as we take care of redoing our yard and landscaping as well as our lighting. Since this home is so old, a few rooms have no built-in lighting. This is something we definitely want to change. So I will definitely be checking in often at CouponCodes4u, since I know I will always save a ton of money on all of the things we need to purchase as new homeowners…As well as all of our clothing and housewares…And maybe even family fun! Sadly, I still have about 5 million boxes that need to be unpacked. Fun will have to wait for now! How do you save money on your family’s needs? Any tips or tricks? I’d love to hear them! ***Disclosure: All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** |
