For the past 4 weeks, we have been feeding our precious pup PurinaONE dog food, which is nutritionally balanced and ideal for dogs of all breeds and sizes. (Of course Trouble refuses and small breed dog foods, since she is a picky, picky eater.) The original challenge took place in Asheville, North Carolina. 300 dog owners switched their dogs' diets to Purina ONE for a 28 day period, and the results were pretty amazing. Pet owners saw shiner coats, brighter eyes, increased energy and healthier teeth and gums. All in just 28 short days! This is because Purina ONE dog foods offer complete and balanced nutrition dogs need to thrive. I have to admit, this challenge didn't come without it's hiccups. First, my pup wouldn't touch the small-breed food. This didn't come as a huge shock, since she usually turns her nose up at the food she is "supposed" to be eating. (Did I ever mention that Yorkies can be incredibly stubborn and particular?) Then, once we found a formula she would actually eat, we experienced some trouble weaning her off of her old food. We mixed it together gradually, and she didn't like having 2 kinds of food in one bowl. Silly, silly puppy! Ultimately, we had to go all or nothing, serving only the PurinaONE. We were able to make this change without any tummy troubles, thank goodness! Since then, things have been smooth sailing here. Trouble has happily eaten this food, and has even started leaving the cat food alone. Well, mostly. Old habits die hard, I suppose. What IS it with little dogs and cat food, by the way? Is this a normal obsession, or is my dog just really strange? As far as visible differences in our pooch, we haven't really seen too many. She looks like good old Trouble. Maybe this is because rather than shedding fur, Yorkies have "hair" that doesn't shed. We have to groom her often, so her appearance pretty much remains the same. We also brush her teeth regularly, so we weren't able to see much of a change since her overall hygiene is something we attend to constantly. (What can I say...I am not a huge fan of doggy-breath!) The biggest change? Well, it's not exactly something you would pick up on visually. The biggest change would have to be her increase in energy. Trouble is a pretty chill little lap-dog, and isn't too hyper, thank God. She is generally content to lay around and get love from anyone who will pay attention to her. Over the course of this past month, she has become a bit more playful, which the kids are absolutely thrilled about. So overall, we're pretty pleased with the results we have seen with the PurinaONE 28 Day Challenge. Trouble is happy and healthy, and she seems to really like this food. I do wish that she would lay off the cats' food, but I guess that's just Trouble's way of living up to her name!
