As parents, we have all been there...Especially if our kids are school aged, and starting to get into that summer funk. I bet I hear it at least 5 times a day..."Mooo-ooom, I'm Booooo-oooored." (Usually from my 13 year old.) Sometimes playing outside gets old, or maybe the weather doesn't permit. And I am not one of those moms who is willing to park my kids in front of a TV all day long. (My husband does enough of that on his days off!)

So to combat summer boredom, I am always on the lookout for interactive summer activities that get my kids' creativity flowing. I'd much rather get my kids playing outdoor games or doing crafts than sitting in front of the TV set zoning out to some cartoon. The Happy Trunk has helped to save the day several times now, and has saved my sanity, as well!

About The Happy Trunk :

The Happy Trunk is a monthly subscription box for kids that includes loads of fun crafts and even science projects. There are 2 different age ranges you can choose from: Themed boxes for ages 3-7, or non-themed boxes for ages 8-11. (Yes! There is an option for older kids!)

Since each box contains all materials needed for the projects, there is no need to scramble around to find additional craft supplies. Once you open The Happy Trunk, you're ready to go and kids can immediately start creating and exploring.

Here are a few words about The Happy Trunk was born, from it's founder:

"The Happy Trunk is a mom-owned, monthly kids subscription service, founded to combat those 'I’m bored’ moments that every parent gets!

Being a mom of two awesome kids who can never sit back doing nothing, it has been my inspiration for years, trying to find meaningful activities, arts and crafts to engage them. When they started showing interest in science, I started incorporating hands on science projects. Soon this caught up on our play dates and so on. And thus, 'The Happy Trunk' was born.

We chose our company name as ‘The Happy Trunk’, as we hope the projects and activities engage kids meaningfully, and bring a smile to their faces, while doing these projects as well as later. Most of these activities can be used thereafter for more imaginative and role play activities.

Our Review of The Happy Trunk :

The awesome folks at The Happy Trunk generously sent us one of their boxes to check out for ourselves. This was the "Welcome Summer" box, and contained everything needed to create several different crafts.

Each craft comes with an easy to understand instruction card, and all materials are separated by activity. As you can see, this box is very organized and has tons of great, high-quality craft supplies.

We started out with some of the easier projects, since my littlest kids are 2 and 3 years old. We made the super cute Summer Sun Wand first. This is a really simple craft that uses felt circles, a wooden dowel, vibrant ribbons, and sparkly, sticky tape.

Even my preschoolers were able to help create this wand, although I had to help wrap the dowel with the sticky tape. Sophie and Xander did the rest, though, and they were very proud of their creation. Sophie has been calling the wand her "Sunshine Magic Wand", and has been chasing the cats around with it. Too cute!

Since my kids are obsessed with bubbles, we had to make our own bubble wands, too. This is also extremely easy. We used the included colorful pipe-cleaners and beads. You can choose whatever shape you'd like for the end of the bubble wand. We chose to make a heart wand as well as a triangle.

As you can see, my toddlers are very pleased with their creations from The Happy Trunk. The projects are colorful and fun, and were very easy to put together. I loved the fact that my kids were kept interested and engaged, and I also loved seeing them get excited about art and science! (Yes, bubbles are a science!)

Here are some photos of my little ones enjoying their completed projects from The Happy Trunk.

Overall, I am thrilled with the project ideas found in The Happy Trunk. These are perfectly age appropriate, and I love the themes for younger children. I also appreciate the fact that everything is included, right down to the scissors. This makes The Happy Trunk the perfect thing to bring on trips to the park or to Grandma's house this summer!

I would definitely recommend The Happy Trunk to any families with kids. What a great, affordable way to combat summer boredom and encourage creativity! I will definitely be trying out a subscription plan for both my little ones and my 13 year old.
