Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and one thing many parents struggle with is whether or not to give in and give their kids a ton of sugar-laden candy. While I think a small amount of candy isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's easy to go overboard. After all, there are so many varieties of chocolates and other treats available for the occasion. Just look on and store shelves in early February! At my local stores, whole aisles look like they're coated in Pepto Bismol. In these aisles? Chocolate hearts, chocolate flowers, chocolate truffles, boxes of chocolate bigger than your head.... You get the point. I avoid heading down these aisles when I am with my kids. It's just easier to stay away that to deal with a potential public tantrum. (Something I haven't had to deal with yet from either of my toddlers, knock on wood!) While I am not 100% opposed to candy for kids on holidays, I do tend to limit it to a very small amount. With childhood obesity and diabetes on the rise, I prefer to give treats in moderation, and pair them with tasty, more nutritionally sound snack options that the kids will enjoy. I don't want the kids feeling deprived on this special occasion, and healthy snacking options are a great way to show them my love without giving them something with little to no nutritional value whatsoever. Sugar is NOT a food group, even though kids would love for it to be! This Valentine's Day, each child will be receiving one small, organic chocolate heart and a variety of Earth's Best Organic snacks. Earth’s Best Organic Sesame Street® Vanilla Smiley Snacks are among my toddlers' favorite things to snack on. The adorable smiling faces make learning to eat fun and nutritious as toddlers pick up these adorable snacks that include 12 grams of whole grain from oats and wheat and 2 grams of protein and fiber per serving. Earth’s Best Sesame Street® Organic Crunchin’ Grahams are another great treat for Valentine’s Day! They are made with organic ingredients including whole wheat flour. They are a good source of whole grain for toddlers, specially formulated with iron, zinc and B vitamins. By giving my kids a pretty basket including all of their favorite Earth's Best Organic snacks, I know they will feel extra special this Valentine's Day. They will get to snack on some tasty yet wholesome snacks, and they'll even get a small piece of chocolate, all wrapped in a pretty red bow. Maybe I will even throw in a cute teddy bear for each of them. After all, they are my little Valentines, and they definitely deserve the best! Earth's Best Organic helps me give them just that.
