As the parent of not one, but two rambunctious toddlers, I always have to be alert. One baby is challenge enough to keep up with, but when there are two of them, it can make things downright nerve-wrecking! After all, babies and toddlers are curious little creatures. Kids can knock down baby gates and "explore" areas of the home they may not be allowed to roam on their own, can climb up furniture, and can even find a way to get into everything. My daughter even found a way to physically break the screwed-in backing off of a toy and swallowed a button battery last year. This resulted in a trip to the ER and thankfully, a good outcome to what could have been a fatal situation. Yes, everyday is a new adventure as the parent of two toddlers, and safety is always on the forefront of my mind. As every parent knows, accidents can and DO happen when you have kids. There are bumps, scrapes, bruises, and other mishaps that cannot be prevented. Thankfully, most of these can be fixed with a bandage and some "magical Mommy kisses". There are also plenty of accidents that can be prevented altogether by using common sense and always practicing safety, such as wearing a helmet when riding bikes, using enclosures when jumping on a preferably spring-free trampoline, and avoiding electrocution by covering all electrical outlets. But what about accidents that can't necessarily be foreseen or prevented, like an automobile accident? Car accidents are every parent's worst nightmare. They happen in a split second and can have devastating results. While we may not be able to prevent an accident, we can ensure out children are protected in the event that one occurs. How do we do this? By making sure there is a safe and secure car seat installed. A good car seat is one of the most important and potentially life-saving products a parent will have to invest in. With 2 babies, though, the cost of car seats can literally break the bank. There are so many great car seats out there, and some of the price-tags soar well into the $300+ range. When buying for multiple children, this can put a very real strain on a family's budget. See that goofy picture to the left? That's my 2 and a half year old daughter, Sophie. Yes, she has part of her potty on her head. It's clean, of course. You see, she likes to pretend it's a hat rather than use it for its intended purpose. (I blame her father's DNA for her odd and creative imagination!) While we get a good laugh out of Sophie's antics, it can be a bit frustrating as well. We have been trying to get Sophie to go to the bathroom on her potty for months now. She gets the concept. She understands that pee-pee and poopy go in the potty. She sets her huge stuffed monkey on it and tries to tell me he pooped. She also chases our puppy, Trouble, around with the potty after she has an accident in the house. But while she understands what the potty is and what it's for, she has yet to actually do anything in her "big girl potty". So right now, out hands are pretty full. We're trying to potty-train a toddler as well as housebreak a puppy, both at the same time. Needless to say, I clean up my fair share of messes in a day! I keep telling myself that this, too, shall pass. After all, potty-training is serious business, and it can take months and months of perseverance to perfect. Before any success can come from potty-training, a child must be physically and emotionally ready for the transition. I am super excited to help celebrate the launch of BloggerPR! Patricia Schultz’s bestselling 1,000 Places to See Before You Die has recently been re-released in the form of a full-color second edition. The book, which has spawned a number of knock-offs, is so much more than just a simple travel guide. Each entry not only tells the reader why the place should be visited but also the pertinent information such as websites, phone numbers and the best time to place a visit. Plus, this new version includes 200 additional pages covering 28 new countries. The book covers everything from the Great Mosque in Mali to the Denali National Park in Alaska. I recently received a copy of this awesome "travel Bible", and almost immediately, I was blown away by the gorgeous photos, detailed descriptions, and the amount of expertise the author shows within the pages of this well-laid out book. One of the things I love the most is that the book is very easy to navigate. It's separated by geographical region, which makes planning a trip super-easy and convenient, and allows you to map out places to visit and see while you're on vacation. "1,000 Places To See Before You Die" also takes the guesswork out of your travels by suggesting the best months to visit, approximate hotel and lodging costs, and even telephone numbers to various establishments. This makes creating an entire trip itinerary easy and relatively painless. Some of the places on MY must-see list include Kangaroo Island in Australia, Sedona, Arizona, and Acadia National Park, just to name a few. I'd also love to visit Italy, Greece, and Poland. Using this handy guide, I can learn all about these places and so many more. While I may not get to see many of them in person, I can definitely daydream! Plus, this book is just plain beautiful. it is laid out in such an attractive way, making it perfect for gift giving. It's finally here.... the Dad's Backyard Oasis Father's Day giveaway event! We worry about which fruits and veggies have the right combination of vitamins needed for healthy growth. Another thing we worry about is iron. A baby less than one year needs 11 milligrams of iron every day to prevent deficiencies and to stay healthy. Making sure baby is getting enough iron isn't as hard as it sounds. The best way to get this iron is through a combination of breast milk or formula supplemented with an iron-fortified cereal. This is actually a great first food, since you can mix a small amount of cereal in with breast milk or formula. This was all 3 of my babies' first experience with solids, and it went very well for us. My babies developed a taste for whole grains, which has made introducing nutritious foods and breads a lot easier as they grow. Earth's Best infant cereals provide an excellent source of iron (45%), an essential mineral for proper infant growth and development. Earth's Best cereals are available in a variety of varieties. Are you a parent on-the-go? Try the multi-packs, individual pouches that can easily be tossed into the diaper bag. That's right, there's no need to carry around a whole box of infant cereal. We love these multi-packs, and have kept them in the diaper bags at all times when Xander and Sophie were a little smaller. Earth's Best's infant cereals are made with 100% organic whole grains. Whole grains possess more of their natural nutrition than grains that have been stripped and processed. Plus, whole grains have a fuller, richer, flavor, helping baby to develop a preference for whole grains ... a preference which will serve him well now and throughout life. These early years are instrumental in developing food preferences and tastes. What better way to start a baby on the road to lifelong good health, and a lifelong preference for those foods that are naturally good for him! For more information and great parent resources, please visit Earth's Best Organic. You can also join the Earth's Best family on Facebook and get some great tips, find some exciting promotions, and meet other parents like you! ***Disclosure: As an Earth's Best Blogger, I receive periodic samples and information to facilitate my posts. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** One thing I have always wanted to do is go on an exotic cruise. I've never really been anywhere, so a Caribbean cruise would be the trip of a lifetime! I can imagine walking along the boat deck, enjoying the sunshine and the salty smell of the ocean. I would also love to go shopping on the ship, enjoy live entertainment, and have a nice, intimate dinner with my husband in the ship's restaurants. Cruises are also wonderful for families! Norwegian Cruise Lines offers the perfect getaway experience, sure to thrill the whole family, even the youngest sailors. With their newly redesigned, complimentary kids program, Splash Academy, and the equally engaging teen program, Entourage, young cruisers can explore and experience exciting activities with kids their own age on board an unforgettable Norwegian Cruise Line family vacation. Doesn't that sound fun?! I would love to relax on one of Norwegian Cruise Line's luxury ships while my kids could enjoy simply being kids. The best part? Norwegian Cruise Lines and The Children's Place have teamed up to offer one lucky family the cruise experience of a lifetime! More about that in a minute, though. Recently, to help celebrate this amazing promotion, I took my daughter to The Children's Place to shop for the perfect, cruise-worthy outfit. I absolutely love the kids' clothing at The Children's Place. They offer a fantastic selection of the most adorable outfits, dresses, swimwear and accessories, and all at great prices. I let Sophie pick out her own outfit, and I think she did a great job. She chose an adorable dip-dyed dress, a funky pink fedora, and some jelly sandals. Yep, my daughter is a girly-girl, and her fashion sense is pretty amazing, even at the age of 2 and a half! Check her out in her perfect, cruise-worthy outfit! I can totally picture her having fun in the sun on Norwegian Cruise Lines in this adorable pink get-up. She'd be sure to be the envy of all the other kids on board! There is a great new clip available from the upcoming Disney/Pixar feature, "Brave". I can't wait to go see this whirlwind adventure with my family this June! Set in the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, Disney•Pixar’s “Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) andcantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources—including her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor. Opens on June 22, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
