I would just take it room by room start at one point and work your way through all of it.

We had a moving van and told them not to arrive on a Sunday because the bank wouldn't be open and we would have to pay them on Monday. When did they arrive? You guessed it on Sunday! They stayed over in a motel and we paid them the next day! What a hassle.

I would work on one room and get it totally in order, then move on to the next one. Having one room that is organized with no clutter gives you a goal to work toward in the other rooms.

My organizational tip is to be friendly to your moving van guys - you really depend on them to help sort your stuff and keep it in order!

I label everything when moving so when its brought to the new place, the boxes can be placed in the room they need to go and the order of what needs unpacked first. Theres nothing worse then after a long day of moving having to search for something you need!

I like to use clear plastic bins instead of boxes for my kitchen items when we move. That way I can see what is in each box and unpack the essentials first.

Designate 1 or 2 boxes with DO NOT LOSE. Put absolute essentials in these boxes, like medicines, prescriptions, birth certificates, extra pair of glasses, school records, and the like. Mark in BRIGHT BOLD letters. That way, no matter what, you can take care of business, no matter how much you have unpacked at your new home. You may even take this in the car with you to your new home, to make sure it is safe.

Subway has great uniform boxes you gan get for free if you want to save on buying moving boxes.

Move on a weekday when banks, utilities and government offices are open.

Instead of packing up dresser drawers just fold everything neatly and carry them out like they are and slide them back in once your moved.

We just bought our new home and were set to move over the weekend but the people who bought our old house had other plans and decided to move 2 days earlier. We had to scramble anyone we could to help during this weekday and reschedule a moving truck. Needless to say it was stressful. Next time we get these things in writing. So much for a verbal agreement.

I am a professional packer and my advice is to label all boxes with room and brief description of contents...makes it easier to sort and locate things that are needed. If you know that there are boxes you want to be able to locate right away make sure you mark them with star or something you will recognize...When packing anything fragile make sure to use lots of paper to wrap and pack on end, NEVER flat!!

Mittens and gloves need to be kept with their mates, and should be kept in storage that allows for air to circulate around them. A shallow woven or mesh tray or basket is ideal.

When I was first married, we were discharged from the Navy, and the military moved us to my husband's home of record. Since we were living in a mobile home, that meant moving the trailer. After some time, it did not arrive and was eventually found abandoned somewhere in Maryland. The driver had apparently been living in it and had left it somewhat in a mess. At least he hadn't gotten into our boxed personal possessions, aside from some kitchenware, but there were some repairs to be made. And to make it worse, the so-called 'moving insurance' that was provided certainly did not pay enough to come anywhere near the costs of the repairs! Future moves had their problems (although we never had to move a trailer again!), but nothing like that first one.

I live in Ohio too :) I have only moved to college, to an apartment right after getting married, and to the home I live in now! We've been here 18 years. My horror-ish story is that I was pregnant when we moved here and I didn't yet know it. We closed on our house 4:00 on a friday, moved in that weekend and then my husband went out to sea for 6 weeks, while I was left to unpack with a 1 1/2 year old.

I label all boxes/containers, first as to what is in them, and second to which room they go in.

A good tip I have is to take it slow. I'm the type who gets overwhelmed quickly and want it all done at one time! That isn't realistic. Just take a deep breath and know you have lots of time to settle in.

When packing, make sure to wrap candles and put in tote by themselves....had an unfortunate accident where a candle melted onto other items and is near to impossible to clean off certain items.

We use milk crates stacked and filled with products. Like a personal store.When we run out of an item,we replace it and know to re-stock the shelf.

My tip is about packing/unpacking clothing.

CLOSET - just take the clothes, hangers and all, directly off the rods and lay/fold them in your box. When you arrive at your new home, all you have to do is grab a bundle and hang them up.
