In 2012, many people are making simple lifestyle efforts in order to help preserve our planet for future generations. Some people go Vegan or Vegetarian, some drive hybrid vehicles, and some find new and interesting ways to repurpose items that others would consider trash. These are just a few of the many ways to help save the Earth! While I don't claim to be the Green Living Goddess, I do try and make the most environmentally conscious choices for my family whenever possible. No, I don't drive a hybrid....I drive a Mercedes...No, I am not Vegan or Vegetarian, although I applaud those who are. But I DO buy as much organic food as possible, including free range meats and poultry. I also cloth diaper, buy clothing and household goods made from organic and sustainable materials, and I use "green" household cleaners. These are just a few of the things we do to try and make the Earth a cleaner, greener place. Another easy and relatively painless way to go green is to check out the packaging in your refrigerator! This is something people rarely think about. After doing some research, I was surprised to learn that paper cartons are by far the best choice when it comes to food packaging. I also learned that most foods that traditionally come with plastic packaging usually have paper-packaged counterparts. (Think cream chesse or butter.) I also learned that paper cartons keep foods just as fresh as plastic packaging! I am sure you all remember hearing classic fairy tales as a child. Stories like Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Three Little Pigs have been told to children for generations. I was read these stories as a child, and I have continued this tradition by reading them to my kids, too. There's nothing better after a long day than snuggling up with my toddlers and reading them a good book. While these beloved stories have definitely withstood the test of time, I have found that they can be a little bit frightening, especially to younger children. When I tell my toddlers certain tales, I tend to change some details to make things more age appropriate and less scary. Let's face it: To a 2 and a half year old, a wolf disguised as a kindly old grandmother that ends up eating a child can be downright terrifying! I don't want my kids to be afraid of wolves or grandparents, so I doctor the stories and leave out the more morbid details. That's why I was so thrilled to learn about a new take on classic fairy tales from the folks at My1story. These are the classic tales we all know and love, but with a kid-friendly twist. You see, the folks at My1story have taken out the scary details and replaced them with happy ones! For example, the big bad wolf has been transformed into an approachable wolf cub, and the giant from Jack in the Beanstalk has been turned from a mean, scary character to a young, small, friendly one. Great idea, right? Okay, so it's no secret that women do not welcome aging. (At least I don't!) Men can get gray hair, crow's feet, and laugh lines, and they're called "distinguished". Women get them, and we're called "ragged-out" or God forbid, "hags". Yes, this sounds harsh, but in a society where beauty and a youthful appearance are so highly coveted, women feel the brunt of the pressure to be "perfect". Now I know as well as you do, there is no such thing as perfection. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, and everyone's definition is different. For example, I would gladly sacrifice a limb to look like Megan Fox. My husband, on the other hand, finds her not only unappealing, but downright ugly. I think he needs glasses! I am about to turn 31 at the end of this month. Don't tell anyone, wink, wink! Thankfully, I will not be running out to get Botox or cosmetic surgery any time soon. The truth is, I don't really have any wrinkles to speak of. Well, I do have one annoying line on my forehead that I hate. It's not really a wrinkle, per se....It's more like a crinkle. But with that one pesky line is the extent of my issues, I consider myself lucky! Part of the reason I don't have too many signs of aging is because I have been borderline obsessive-compulsive about skincare ever since I was in my early 20's. I have used serums, creams, and other similar products for over a decade, and I have used them religiously. Oh, also, I do not go tanning and I ALWAYS use products that contain SPF. The sun can be incredibly damaging, so I try my best to limit my exposure to harmful UVA/UVB rays. Proper sun protection and a good skincare regiment is key to help slow down the aging process. One of the products I really like is Complexion MD. I have been using this for over a month now, and I can honestly say I am loving the results. When it comes to skincare reviews, I prefer to use them for awhile to give an accurate reaction over a period of prolonged use. You can't use anything for a week and get proper results. I have reviewed several skincare items, and I have to say, Complexion MD stands out for a number of reasons. |
