![]() I am a HUGE music lover, and listen to a little bit of everything. From country and classic rock to pop and R&B, I can appreciate talent regardless of what genre the music belongs to. That's why I was so excited to get the chance to review the latest offering from Mat Kearney. I was already a fan of Mat's, since his hit single "Nothing Left To Lose" captivated me on my first listen well over a year ago. If you aren't familiar with Mat's music you've probably heard some of his previous hits on your favorite TV shows. Past songs have appeared on 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, Friday Night Lights, Scrubs, NCIS, and numerous other television shows. Mat's been winning over crowds on tours with everyone from John Mayer and Sheryl Crow to Keane and The Fray. Young Love is Mat's third album, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Album and Rock charts. This is an eclectic mix of many musical styles, all wrapped up into one phenomenal album. From Mellow, soothing melodies to spoken word and dance tunes, Mat has all the bases covered with his unique brand of musical talent. One thing I love about Mat Kearney is that he dances to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't conform to the pop industry's standard of what mainstream pop is "supposed" to be. Mat has his own style and a very soothing voice that absolutely captures the listener's attention and leaves them wanting more. If you asked me who I thought Mat Kearney's musical influences might be, I would have to guess the following artists: John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Bare Naked Ladies, The Wallflowers, Bob Dylan, and maybe even Better Than Ezra with a little hint of Jason Mraz thrown in for good measure. There are so many obvious styles beautifully blended together, it's really hard to pinpoint Mat Kearney's absolute style. All I know is that whatever Mr. Kearney is doing, it's working for him. His melodies and voice are oddly addicting, and they are fun to dance and sing along with. I have been listening to Young Love quite a bit over the past week, and even my toddler perks up and bops along with this wonderful CD. Here is the track list for Young Love: 1 Hey Mama 2 Ships In The Night 3 Count On Me 4 Sooner Or Later 5 Chasing The Light 6 Learning To Love Again 7 Down 8 She Got The Honey 9 Young Dumb And In Love 10 Rochester 11 Seventeen I especially love the song "Hey Mama" off of Young Love. This song was written by Mat for his new bride. It is an upbeat, yet beautifully tender tribute to the woman he loves. Yes, I am a sap-ball and am a total sucker for romantic songs. While this song is whimsical and fun, it is also very sweet. Check out the video for "Hey Mama". How fun is that?! I absolutely LOVE Young Love by Mat Kearney. This CD is quite surprising in its diversity, and offers something to fit every mood. So whether I am relaxing in a bubble bath with a good book, having a quiet evening with my husband, or bopping around with my babies, Young Love makes the perfect soundtrack for my life. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who has a deep appreciation for music. In a world where just about anyone can get a record deal and music has become very cookie-cutter and commercialized, Mat Kearney proves that true artists with real talent and soul still exist.
I am so excited to announce that the One2One Network, in addition to allowing me to preview this awesome album, is also sending me and my husband to a Mat Kearney concert next month! How cool is that!? So definitely stay tuned for my concert review! Maybe I'll even get lucky enough to score an autograph! You can even find Mat on Facebook and on iTunes! ***Disclosure: I received a copy of “Young Love” as a member of One2One Network. No monetary compensation was received. All opinions are my own.***
