![]() Whew! The past few days here have been very out of the ordinary, to say the least! First there was all of the Thanksgiving hustle and bustle...Then, the next morning, we realized we had a very mischievous little visitor, straight from the North Pole! Yep...We've been experiencing our own special Elf Magic here! You see, in early November, Kyle helped Sophie and Xander write a letter to Santa, asking if he'd "please, please, please, with a cherry on top" send one of his best elves to visit and help our family get ready for the Holiday season. We sent our letter off with the help from the Polar Express, and honestly, I forgot all about it. (Mommy FAIL!) The day after Thanksgiving, our whole family awoke to quite a shock....First we found a little note from Ella, one of Santa's most beautiful and playful elves. She let us know that she would be hiding here and there and everywhere, and part of the fun of Christmas would be seeing where she'd turn up next! So we began hunting for Ella. After all, we had never met a real live elf before, and we were all excited to make her acquaintance. We looked high and low, and finally found Ella peeking out from inside my Winnie the Pooh cookie jar! They say elves only come out to create mischief at night. However, I don't think Ella got that memo! She turns up both during the day and at night...We never know what she's been up to or where we might find her next! Here are just a few of Ella's recent antics. I guess when request a mischievous elf to pay a visit, sometimes you get exactly what you asked for! Our Ella likes to play Hide & Seek. Recently, we found her peering at us from behind the shutters in our living room. Ella also seems to be drawn to flowers, whether they're real or of the silk variety. Maybe it's because she's a girly-girl like my daughter, Sophie, or perhaps it's because flowers don't grow in the North Pole, so she's not used to seeing them. Here she is nestled among one of my silk flower arrangements, piggy-backing on the shoulders of one of our Christmas angels! We've also discovered Ella napping in my blue hydrangea arrangement. Like I said, Ella seems to be drawn to all things floral! She also really likes hiding inside of our Christmas stockings. Of course it's pretty dark deep inside of them, so she usually keeps her head outside so she doesn't get afraid of the dark. Ella seems to show some signs of homesickness. She was recently found hanging out by our water and ice dispenser. And then she got a bit more creative and ended up in our freezer, sitting happily on top of our foods! Imagine my shock when I found her! I was getting out some chicken to thaw for dinner, and I was greeted by Ella's smiling face! My kids thought this was absolutely hilarious! I guess the frigid temperatures made her feel right at home! Ella tries to be a helpful elf. She dusts and cleans, and even attempted to vacuum a mess she made with confetti. However, she ended up getting her head stuck inside of the vacuum cleaner. Maybe she should recognize that certain chores are better left to the humans in the house! Ella must have worked herself to a major thirst. We found her wrapped around a bottle of red cooking wine. What came next? Well...Let's just say that elves and cooking wine simply do not mix! We found Ella riding my Great-Grandma's rooster figurine. I swore I hears a tiny little "Yee-Haw", but I cannot be completely sure. Elves have very quiet little voices, after all. And then we found Ella swinging from the chandelier in our dining room! How she got all the way up there is still a mystery! I think Ella had a bit too much fun that day, because then we found her sleeping soundly on top of our flat screen television. I'm sure she needs her rest to have more fun tomorrow, and every single day till Santa makes his rounds and picks her up to go back home to the North Pole! So as you can see, we've been very busy keeping up with our elf, Ella. We never know what she's going to do next! The kids are so happy that Santa granted their wish, and they have a blast hunting down Ella...She always turns up in the most unexpected of places.
It's not too early to have your little ones write to Santa asking for some Elf Magic. I hear he has elves standing by with all different hair and skin tones, boys and girls, ready to come to homes and spread some Holiday cheer! This is a fun-filled Holiday tradition that has been around for decades. The best part? Anyone can participate! Look for more posts about Ella soon! I know she's going to keep us on our toes! ***Disclosure: I received an elf to facilitate this post. How cute and fun! My grandson loves the Elf, too! He has been asking about him since before Thanksgiving, and his mom was a little worried because she couldn't find theirs. Silly elf was hiding...haha! Luckily, she did find the elf in the Christmas box of stuff. Today, the elf was near a candle roasting a marshmellow. Those elves do get around!
