My kids love Yo Gabba Gabba, almost to the point of obsession. They dance and sing to the music, and they stare mesmerized at all of the bright colors and fun, lovable characters. While I don't let them watch television often, Yo Gabba Gabba is one of their favorite programs, and they're always thrilled to get to spend time in "Gabba-Land". Another thing my kids are fairly obsessed with is my iPhone. They are always trying to play with it, and have even hidden it in some pretty creative places, such as in the dog food bag. Since I want to keep them from using apps I need, like Facebook, twitter, and Instagram, I have downloaded a few special kids' apps, just for them! Recently, I got the opportunity to try out a brand new app from Yo Gabba Gabba called "Hello Friends!" This app is available for Apple products including the iPhone and iPad, as well as Google Android devices, and is loaded with fun-filled activities your kids are sure to love! Yo Gabba Gabba! Hello Friends! offers digital-savvy families an easy way to encourage kids to build critical thinking skills while entertaining any time, anywhere. Kids will enjoy talking to Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex and Toodee; dressing up the characters and DJ Lance Rock; playing games that incentivize players to collect virtual stickers to use in the dress up interactive feature, and watching their favorite live action and animated segments from the television series, including “Cool Tricks,” “Dancey Dance,” “Story Time” and “Super Music Friends Show.” Here is the main menu screen of the app. As you can see, it utilizes your device's camera to provide footage of the user in the center of the screen. For young children, this is so fun. They love seeing themselves on the screen. My toddlers actually think they've traveled to Gabba-Land! How cool is that!? Within the Hello Friends! app, there are several games, videos, photo options, and more that kids can enjoy. The games are a bit too advanced for my 2 year old, Xander, but my 3 year old, Sophie, can manage them just fine. One of their favorite activities is the "Friends" feature. This allows kids to have conversations with their favorite Yo Gabba Gabba characters using a "skype" like calling feature. They select the character they want to talk to, and the character shows up and talks to your child! The conversations are varied, so it won't be the same every single time. This helps keep kids engaged and interested. I know my toddlers love hearing what the Yo Gabba Gabba folks have to share! They also love the videos. These are tons of fun, and feature a lot of different songs. My toddlers love shaking their hips and clapping their hands as they sing along with their Yo Gabba Gabba pals. The video feature is wonderful, especially when my kids are getting tired and cranky. They will happily drift off to sleep while enjoying these great videos. It's also a wonderful way to keep kids from having meltdowns during car rides. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Yo Gabba Gabba! Hello Friends! app. This is the perfect interactive app for young children, and it will definitely keep their interest. The games help build problem solving and hand hand-eye coordination skills, and the videos allow kids to laugh, giggle and dance. So while I know my kids will never leave my iPhone alone, at least I know they will be going to the Hello Friends! app rather than trying their hand at online banking.
The Yo Gabba Gabba! Hello Friends! app is available for $3.99 on iTunes and on Google Play. App owners will receive monthly additions and updates to keep the content fresh and engaging. ***Disclosure: I received a complimentary download to facilitate my review.
