They say that "Some Like It Hot." Well, in my house, this is the absolute truth! We are HUGE fans of heat, and are always on the lookout for new hot sauces that can bring the fire and flavor. Too often, I will get excited about a hot sauce because it looks truly make-your-eyebrows sweat spicy, and then I will be thoroughly disappointed because while it may be hot, it's completely one noted. No one likes a sauce that offers nothing but burn! You have to have some more complex flavors brought in not only to balance out the spiciness but also to lend it some flavor.

That's why I was so intrigued by the line of gourmet hot sauces over at Scotty B's. Scotty B's has been taking the chili-head world by storm with their exciting line of sauces, and has even won several awards for offering that fiery punch we all crave along with some unique flavor profiles that are anything but ordinary. With flavors like Berries in Heat, Sweet Habanero, and the intimidating Nemesis, you're in for a flavor explosion of epic proportions.

Can you handle the heat? We were up to the challenge! I received the 2 newest flavors in the Scotty B's lineup to try for myself, the tantalizing Ghostly Garlic and the ultimate in scorchers, the Arch Nemesis. These sauces are HOT, since they both contain the fabled (and feared) Ghost Chili. This is something my husband and I have been wanting to try for quite some time, but sauces that contain ghost chilis aren't available in abundance in my area. Needless to say, we were excited! I'll even admit that I was a little scared.

The first sauce my husband tried was the Arch Nemesis. He played it safe and simply dipped a toothpick into the sauce for his first attempt. It was pretty amusing to watch, since he almost immediately began to sweat. There were clearly visible beads of perspiration on his brow, and he was turning an uncomfortable shade of red. However, even though this sauce was most definitely super-hot, he raved about the amount of flavor incorporated into Arch Nemesis. You see, along with the slowly building heat is a fabulously flavorful experience unlike any other. The sauce tastes good! So I put on my big girl panties and decided to try it myself. The heat is definitely there, but it's not really an immediate burn, like many other hot sauces. It kind of creeps up on you, and rather than being a painful heat that attacks the throat and taste buds, it is more of a slowly warming, full body heat. I have had other sauces that were excruciating to eat, but were less spicy than the Arch Nemesis. I think that's because the folks at Scotty B's are geniuses and can deliver a perfectly balanced sauce that delivers the heat while having a terrific flavor. This sauce, while hot as fire and brimstone, was definitely not painful and was a pleasure to try! I have since added this sauce in pasta sauces, chili, and in my shredded beef chimis! (Sparingly, of course!)

The next sauce we tried was the Ghostly Garlic. Oh. My. Goodness. This has got to be THE best hot sauce I have ever had the pleasure of trying! My husband agrees! The Ghostly Garlic has a sinful, smoky, garlicky goodness that is followed by that now familiar slow burn of the ghost chilis. I cannot even begin to describe the complexity of this amazing sauce. It's savory, smoky, spicy, and I think I even detected the tiniest hint of something sweet. This sauce is absolutely fantastic, and I have been using it on everything. (As I am sure you can see by the fact that the bottle is less than half full!) Again, this sauce is very, very hot, but not in a bad "Oh my goodness where the BLEEP is my milk?" kind of hot. It is a slowly building warmth that is actually rather pleasant. The Ghostly Garlic is definitely less hot than the Arch Nemesis, but I still wouldn't recommend putting it on the kids' chicken nuggets to be funny. It packs quite the punch! This sauce is amazing used in BBQ sauces for meats and chicken, and I also love a splash of it in my mac and cheese, and even on a baked potato! Yum!

Overall, we love the hot sauces from Scotty B's Gourmet Hot Sauces. They are the perfect combination of heat meets flavor, and it is easy to see why they're winning so many awards for these scorching sauces. When you taste Scotty B's for the first time, you anticipate the heat. What you don't anticipate are the complex flavors and perfectly balanced spices. You get both. When they say these are gourmet sauces, they're not pulling anyone's leg. Try some! I think you'll be blown away by the perfectly balanced flavor profiles Scotty B's has to offer. My only complaint? That I didn't get to try ALL of them! Yes, they're really THAT GOOD, and would make the perfect gift for the "hot-head" in your life this Holiday Season!

My step dad and I used to "challenge" each other by tasting hot sauces at restaurants. LOL. The Nemesis sounds like a great new challenge for us.
