![]() With the Holiday season rapidly approaching, one thing I am stressing about is my weight and keeping it down, despite the fact that I will be surrounded by temptation constantly over the next couple of months. First, we will be visiting my Grandma in Ohio, and that can be a quite dangerous thing to the waistline all by itself. My Grandma is an awesome cook, and there are sure to be her famous chicken burgers, peanut butter balls, Chicken Paprikash, bacon for breakfast, and other random goodies. Yep, she likes to feed people, and I like eating her food. After that, we will be spending Thanksgiving with my husband's father's family. This, too, is a diet disaster waiting to happen. They always have amazing food like smoked ham, deep fried turkey, various cookies, pies, and cheesecakes, and even some of the best spicy pierogis I have ever had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into. Dan even has a cousin who makes these really cool cupcake cones! I am honestly shocked that I don't gain 20lbs every time I see that part of the family. Perhaps it's the laughter that always accompanies them that helps me burn the 5 billion calories I consume during family gatherings! After that, there's Christmas and creamed chipped beef and biscuits, sinfully delicious Rumaki, and much, much more. Anyway, you get the point. The Holidays can definitely equate to a dieter's Hell. In the past 9 months since my Xander was born, I have lost and kept off almost 60lbs. That's right: I went from weighing in at about 185lbs to my current weight of 127lbs. (Give or take 5lbs to compensate for monthly bloating!) I will be honest, I have always struggled with my weight, and this is the smallest I have been since puberty. I am wearing a size 6. I wouldn't recommend my past weight loss methods to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I probably don't have the healthiest relationship with food, and I know I have terrible self-esteem and body image issues. When I look in the mirror, I don't SEE an attractive, non-fat person. I see someone who is terribly large, and I tend to be very, very hard on myself. (This drives my husband insane by the way!) Things needed to change, and I realized I had to raise the proverbial white flag and end my war with food before the food won and I ended up in the hospital. The past few months I have spent a lot of time researching how to have a healthy relationship with food. I learned that counting calories, portion control, and even weighing out food portions can be very beneficial when trying to re-train your mind for healthier eating habits. So naturally, when I received the Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale from EatSmart Products for review, I was thrilled. This is JUST what I needed to give me a more realistic way to take control of my eating habits. As a matter of fact, I now have more control over my food than it ever had over me! Learning what proper portions look like is a bit of a wake up call. Most of the time, what we eat is NOT truly one serving. Take cheese, for example: One serving of cheese is about the size of a 9V battery. Chicken and meats? The size of a deck of playing cards. Pasta? The size of a baseball. To the eye, these are not "normal" portions, but trust me, they are proper portions. With my Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale and the companion book, "Calorie Factors", I am making smarter eating decisions every single day. I can fully take control over what I am putting into my body, and this helps keep those pesky pounds at bay. This scale is pretty darn amazing, if you ask me, and has acted as a lifeline for me as I continue to re-train my brain (and my eyeballs) on how to eat to maintain a healthy weight. Here are some of the awesome features of the EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale:
This scale is lightweight, compact, and very easy to use. You can even switch between standard US measurements and the metric system! I just stick with ounces, since I am an American and this is what makes sense to me. You just place the food on the scale itself or in a dish and you can easily and accurately weigh out your perfect servings. The scale is also very easy to clean and disinfect. I just wipe mine off with a disinfecting wipe and I'm good to go! Take a look! Here I have weighed out .7 oz of sharp white cheddar. Cheese is one of my guilty pleasures, and with this scale, I am able to keep my portion sizes under control: Overall, I LOVE my EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale. This has been an absolute lifesaver and has kept me on the right track with my diet without having to resort to old, destructive habits. This is also a wonderful product for those home cooks out there, as you can be in total control of your ingredients. I cook my meals at home, and this scale has also served as a fantastic teaching tool when my 11 year old helps me in the kitchen. He is learning about portion control and proper serving sizes, and this info will stay with him for a lifetime. I would definitely recommend the Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale to anyone looking to stay on track during the Holiday season or any time of year, for that matter! I know I will be relying on this to keep the "Winter Bulge" at bay! Now I just need to get one of EatSmart's amazing looking bathroom scales to track my progress as I try and shed the last 15lbs!
