One of my favorite things to do is whip up delicious meals for my family to enjoy. I enjoy experimenting with different flavors and cooking methods, and often find cooking very relaxing. One thing I don't enjoy, especially as it gets freezing cold here in Ohio? Grocery shopping. I swear, I will never get used to the Ohio cold. Just last week, I went to the store bundled up like an Eskimo, while other people were still wearing shorts. Yes, I got a lot of funny looks. What can I say? Me and cold weather simply don't get along. So when I got the opportunity to check out Schwan's Home Delivery Service, I jumped at the chance. Food, conveniently delivered right to my door? Sure! Sign me up! I had heard of Schwan's before, but had never actually tried any of their foods. I headed to their website, and was really surprised by the wide variety of choices they offer. There are ready-made meals, frozen treats and desserts, and even grocery staples so you can transform them into any meal you'd like! You can order online, and one of Schwan's delivery drivers will drop off your order on a scheduled date and time. If you're not home or have social anxiety like me and just don't like dealing with people you don't know, there is even the option to have everything dropped off in a convenient freezer bag. I LOVE this option! Here are some quick facts about Schwan's: Simplified mealtimes with over 350 High-quality affordable food choices USDA Choice Meats Grade A Vegetables Wild-Caught Fish and Seafood Delivered right to your door for your convenience NO CONTRACTS NO MINIMUM ORDERS 100% GUARANTEED NO PAYMENT REQUIRED UNTIL DELIVERY Anyway, I ordered a few Schwan's items to try with my family. I got some Six Cheese Tortellini and some Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast Filets. I decided to make a simple Italian Marinated Chicken Breasts, some Tortellini, both topped with some homemade Alfredo sauce. The Six Cheese Tortellini was really good. It cooked in just a few minutes, and the cheesy flavor was just right. (And I LOVE cheese!) The pasta itself was also very good, as long as you follow the instructions. When I made it, it was perfect. When my teen tried to make some later, he boiled it far too long, and it turned to mush. That was user error, though, and does not speak of the quality of the product. I would definitely buy this product again. The chicken? Well, it was alright. I was honestly not blown away by the chicken at all. The breasts were frozen, which I expected, but they were all a bit on the small side, compared to what I am used to buying. They are also injected with some odd "flavor solution", which I am not really a fan of. The chicken was certainly edible, but was a bit lacking in flavor and quality. I had expected larger breasts, and the solution used just turned me off, since I like things to be as natural as possible when I buy them. Would I buy this chicken again? Maybe. But rather than serving it on its own, I would likely use it in slow-cooker dishes like Chicken and Dumplings or White Chicken Chili, where the quality would be somewhat masked by the other ingredients and sauces. The only thing I wish was different about the Schwan's process is the frequency of visits from the delivery man. I would prefer to only be visited if I placed an order. Random visits to my home when I have not ordered anything are disruptive, and honestly, they are stressful for me. I have a bit of anxiety dealing with people I don't know, and being awoken to unexpected banging on the door is not fun. But with Schwan's, I guess once you're on the driver's route, they stop by every couple of weeks to try and sell additional product. For most people, this is probably not a big deal. For me, it is. I really wish I could set it up so I am only visited when an order has been placed. I don't like surprise visits when I am in my PJ's, without make-up, and chasing around preschoolers. This isn't my idea of a pleasant time. I like to be a little more prepared and presentable. But, that's just me, and I realize that the majority of the world doesn't suffer from awful social anxiety like I do. Overall, I am pretty pleased with my Schwan's Home Delivery experience. The food was definitely decent overall, and the convenience of home delivery is wonderful. I will definitely give them another shot, and order a different type of meat. There's tons to choose from! I know come winter, this will be a God-send! No more running to the store in sub-Arctic temperatures!
