Thankfully, next weekend we'll be moving to NE Ohio where the summers don't get quite as hot and the weather isn't quite as volatile. Perhaps then the kids will be able to enjoy a bit of outdoor play in our new yard before it gets too cold!
So this summer before we move, in order to avoid positively melting in the sweltering heat and getting blown away, we have been spending far more time indoors than outdoors. This is perfectly fine by me, since I detest extreme heat. I much prefer the cool, arctic blast of my central air conditioning any day!
Staying indoors may be the more comfortable choice when it's too hot out to breathe, but it also poses certain challenges. Kids can get cabin fever, and bore easily. My 12 year old, Kyle, is especially prone to this. It seems that all he wants to do is watch TV. Then the battles ensue....
You see, I am often called the "Mean, strict Mommy." I don't allow my preteen to have total reign over the television. I don't allow him to watch shows that are filled with sex, violence, drug abuse, or other questionable material. I don't even allow him to watch shows like "The Simpsons" or "Family Guy" since I don't approve of the message these shows send. For the record, I also don't allow violent video games or movies, and I have been told that my 12 year old is the only kid in the free world who isn't allowed to have a Facebook account.
That's why I was so thrilled to learn about MommyBearMedia. This is a great online movie superstore that carries ONLY family-friendly films and television shows. This allows me to provide my kids with the entertainment they want without having to worry about what negative influences they're being exposed to. It's a win-win situation, all around!
We are a small family company dedicated to make shopping for your next favorite movie a good experience. What makes our website different than any other website is that we only carry the "good stuff." What we mean by that is that we only have movies that are:
- No R, NC-17, TV-MA ratings
- Selective PG-13 and TV-14 ratings
- Not too much sex, violence, etc.
- If the movie or tv show is on www.commonsensemedia.org, we only include it if it's green age 14 or lower (that means movies they say are "on" for ages 14 and under)
- High quality
- Are worth watching
- Have a good message
We also try to be a great company to buy from, for example:
- We have great customer service
- We ship within one business day of receiving your order
- We only ship USPS First Class or Priority Mail - and we do it for free!
How cool is that?! Finally, there's a place for parents to shop for good, clean family movies. There's no guesswork and no surprises, as every movie and TV show sold at MommyBearMedia has already been carefully pre-screened by their staff to ensure only positive experiences.
There is a staggering variety of movies and shows sold on the site, too! I have spent hours checking out what they have to offer, and was impressed by how well-rounded and versatile their collection is. Here you'll find old classics like Casablanca and Murder She Wrote, as well as new releases Twilight and The Hunger Games. There are also a ton of educational children's programs and even Christian features like Veggie Tales! MommyBearMedia literally has something to please every member of the family, young or old.
Recently, I received The Cosby Show, Season One from MommyBearMedia. I happen to love this ground-breaking sitcom, and plan to eventually have the entire series in my collection. Bill Cosby is such an iconic talent, and I love watching the antics of the lovable Huxtable family. My 2 year old also loves this show, and dances to the theme music along with her favorite cast of characters.
The thing I love the most about The Cosby Show is that it breaks common stereotypes surrounding African-American families. Rather than portraying them in a negative light, the Huxtables are a loving, successful, professional family who have the same struggles as the everyday family raising a house full of kids. I love the humor in the show, and the realistic situations depicted. My favorite episode of all time would have to be when Theo gets his ear pierced and gets busted for it. Too funny! But that's in a later season....
Overall, I am very happy with my experience with MommyBearMedia. So happy, in fact, that I will be featuring them every month! This is a great shop run by parents like me who want to provide only the best family friendly movies to their customers. Plus, their customer service is fantastic, shipping is lightning fast, and their prices are highly competitive. Check them out with your kids! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what you find!
