***Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Turning Leaf. I received a complimentary package of products to facilitate my review. No other compensation has been provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** When I was younger, I did not drink wine...Or beer....Or liquor...Or anything at all that contained alcohol. But now that I am 32, and have 2 toddlers and a moody teen in the house, I have certainly learned to appreciate and love a good glass of wine. I have tried several different wines in the past few years, and I have found that you can't always judge a bottle by its cover. Price tag and a cutesie label mean absolutely nothing. In fact, one of the most horrid wines I have ever tried was pricey at $35 a bottle, and had a very pretty label. It was absolute swill, and I couldn't take more than a sip. Alternately, some of the best wines I have tried cost less than $10 a bottle. Who knew?! I really enjoy fruitier, sweeter wines, whether they're red or white. Dan, the hubby, loves dry whites almost exclusively. So my favorite would have to be a sparkling Moscato where he loves Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. Recently, I got the opportunity to try Turning Leaf Wines Refresh Over Ice wines. (Thanks so much to my blogging BFF Elaina over at A Time Out For Mommy! She chose to "Refresh It Forward" my way!) We received a very nice package of products, which actually made for a wonderful at home date night! There was a very soft and cozy picnic blanket, plastic wine glasses, plastic "ice cubes", since no one wants their wine watered down, and of course, a couple of bottles of Turning Leaf Refresh Wines. (Crisp White and Red Moscato.) There is even a very nice wine tote that will hold 2 bottles of wine securely. So Dan and I decided to have a romantic, indoor picnic. I got plenty of fruits, cheeses, some toasted baguette, olives, and chocolates. (He hogged all the chocolate and fruit while I stuck to the olives, bread, and cheese.) We even turned on some music to enjoy while we enjoyed our wine and munchies and semi-alone time. (The kids were asleep about 10 feet away.) We decided to try the Crisp White first. While I normally think that many whites are too dry and bitter for my tastes, I found that the Turning Leaf Refresh Crisp White was amazing....It had wonderful, complex fruity flavors that didn't leave a gross aftertaste. Oh, and my favorite part of all? It has BUBBLES! That's right! Refresh wines have carbonation, which makes them feel so light and refreshing...Hence the name, I suppose. I did use the cute little plastic ice cubes because I didn't want my drink to end up watered down, and the wine was excellent ice cold! A few days later, we tried the red. Again, adult camp-out on the family room floor style. This time, however, we didn't try to be all fancy with our accompaniments. We drank our wine with pizza. We have a local place called Mark & Philly's, and they have the absolute best Sicilian Pie. It paired beautifully with the Red Moscato. This wine is rather fruity as well, yet light and refreshing. Oh, and bubbles. Gotta love the bubbles! Overall, I am totally digging Refresh by Turning Leaf. These wines are absolutely delicious, and they won't break the bank at around $8 a bottle. So if you love wine and want to put a fun twist on it, definitely try these. These are also great for those who generally opt for wine coolers or cocktails rather than wine. These are so refreshing and light that you may end up ditching the wine coolers for good! I prefer reds like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. My husband and I just like to have a relaxing glass together every once in a while with dinner.
