As a mom, I love convenience foods that allow me to give the kids a quick snack or even a "mini-meal" between meals. Especially my preteen! I am truly starting to believe that he has either a tapeworm or a hollow leg, since he eats more in a day than some entire families do! This kid can put away heaping plates of food without batting an eye and will then be hungry again only a few minutes later! He would devour the entire contents of the fridge if I let him. I'm actually highly considering getting a padlock for it! So obviously, I need to keep some easy to prepare foods on hand for when hunger strikes, which should be in the next 5 minutes, if I know my son! He's always ravenous after a long day of school, so I know to expect the ongoing mantra of "But Mooo-ooom, I'm hungry!" I tend to be very picky about what snacks and foods I feed my kids, and in my opinion, natural or organic is always best. While prepackaged foods are indeed convenient, they are not often nutritious. Most "kid favorites" are laden with chemicals, fillers, and preservatives. These are not things I want to be giving my kids, if I can at all help it. I try and give them all-natural foods whenever possible. I was thrilled when I recently discovered the burritos and quesadillas from Red's All Natural. What kid doesn't love these Mexican staples? All 3 of my kids, toddlers included, love these items. What makes Red's All Natural so darn awesome is the fact that their products are just that: All Natural. That's right! No fillers, no preservatives, no junk whatsoever. These burritos are filled with only the finest natural and organic ingredients available. Want all natural turkey or chicken? They've got it! Or maybe you're a carnivore like me and want some tender, juicy steak? Well, Red's has got that, too. Add to that farm-fresh veggies like corn, black beans, peppers and onions, and you're got a winning combination. They've even added a few top secret ingredients that make these burritos even more delicious. I hear they might be unicorn tears, but that has not been confirmed or denied by the owners. Speaking of owners, Red's All Natural was founded by a husband and wife team, Paige and Mike, who set out to share Paige's spec-freaking-tacular burritos with the world. You see, Paige is one heck of a cook, and while Mike would never share his wife with the general public, he was willing to share her culinary genius. (Thanks, Mike!) Even their dog, Red, was excited about the plan, so they decided to name their new venture after him. After all, dog is man's best friend, and I am pretty certain that Red acted as an official taste-tester more than once! Recently I got the opportunity to try some of Red's All Natural burritos myself. Now I don't know about you, but I have never been overly impressed by frozen burritos. They're usually skimpy, puny, and smell like something plastc. Heck, many of them taste like cardboard! Not so good, right? Definitely not something I would want to serve my children, that's for sure. When I was finally able to locate some of these products in a local store, which was an adventure in itself, I was shocked to see how BIG they were. Not at all like their shrimpy counterparts. In fact, each Red's All Natural burrito is a whopping 11oz! That's big! And they're packed from end to end with the tastiest, most flavorful ingredients around. We got some of the chicken burritos and some of the steak variety. I don't like turkey one bit, so I left those on the store shelves for someone else to enjoy. My very hungry preteen son was the official Red's All Natural reviewer. It seems that all of their products have onions and sour cream, and these are things I don't eat. Yep, I am incredibly picky. My son was beyond thrilled to have these babies all to himself. After all, he is the Bottomless Pit! I did try a tiny bite, though, so I know they tasted good. I just didn't want to ingest any onions or sour cream accidentally. He raved about how good these burritos were, and he especially liked the addition of rice and beans. He also commented that they were as big as "restaurant burritos" and that we need to drive around town looking for them more often! He loved the sauce inside and said that the steak and chicken were very tender and moist and didn't seem like they were frozen. He, like most of us, is used to frozen foods being rubbery, dry, or just plain unappetizing. Red's All Natural Burritos taste fresh, just like homemade would. They're also packed full of protein and are pretty filling. They're bigger than a snack, but not quite a whole meal, and they are definitely better than any convenience food my son has ever tried. (Trust me, he's tried many!) They're also very good with cheese melted over-top, restaurant style, as well as with some freshly made guacamole! Overall, Red's All Natural Burritos got a HUGE thumbs up from my family. Kyle was nice enough to share with the babies and they happily gobbled up their portions. My husband also "stole" one of the Steak Burritos and took it to work with him. He said it tasted just as good, if not better than, Chipotle! That's saying a lot! My only complaint? The onions and sour cream kept me from chowing down along with them! That's okay, though. My family certainly didn't mind! I would definitely recommend Red's All Natural products for any families out there who want the convenience of frozen foods without all the added gunk. If you like natural or organic foods, and even if you don't, these products are sure to satisfy your cravings for something yummy!
