The Wyndham Cleveland At Playhouse Square Offers Family-Friendly Luxury #WyndhamWeekends #Sponsored7/23/2014 ***Disclosure: I received a media rate while staying at the Wyndham WEC through the travel campaign with New Creative Media. All opinions expressed are 100% my own and my family’s. Any additional expenses incurred were my own.*** With 2 kids under the age of 5, going on vacation as a family can be pretty stressful. After all, you never know how a small child will react to travel, new sights and sounds, or just being away from home for the first time. While my 4 year old, Sophie, goes with the flow and seems to be open to anything that comes her way, my 3 year old, Xander, is not as easy to please. In fact, if things aren't just right, he will throw epic tantrums to show his disdain. (Trust me folks, it's not a pretty sight!) So planning a weekend "staycation" in downtown Cleveland was definitely new territory for us. We wanted to find a decent hotel in the heart of the action that's not only comfortable, but kid-friendly, too. Having kids in tow shouldn't mean sacrificing certain luxuries, don't you agree? If I wanted something devoid of luxury, I'd just as soon stay home and drive 45 minutes to all the Cleveland area attractions. A vacation is all about the experience, and I wanted to make sure my family had a wonderful one. After doing some research about the downtown Cleveland area, we decided to stay at the fabulous Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square. This stately hotel is located right in the heart of Cleveland's bustling theater district, and is within easy walking or driving distance to several area attractions like Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, Horseshoe Casino, and more. And if you don't feel like walking? No problem! The Wyndham offers a very convenient shuttle service anywhere you'd like to go! The Area and Attractions :Here are just a few of the great local finds within a few blocks of the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square. Yes, I said a few blocks. Walking distance. Take a look at this slideshow that highlights some of Cleveland's best kept secrets : As you can see, Cleveland has so much to offer from fine dining to live music and even retail therapy in posh surroundings. There is even a gorgeous outdoor chandelier that is positively luminous, especially when it's lit up at night. Whether it's funky local art, food infused with local flavor, or hitting the theaters and museums, downtown Cleveland has something for everyone, young and old alike. The Wyndham Cleveland :Now I'd like to tell you why we chose to stay at the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square. Yes, the location is fantastic, but location alone isn't everything. We also wanted comfort, luxury, and all the amenities one would expect while on vacation. When we arrived at the Wyhdham, we were immediately greeted with a big smile by Gabby, one of the front desk clerks. Checking in was simple and painless, and our room was all ready for us. Gabby was delightful, and even made friends with my 3 year old son, Xander. It was so cute! Every time we entered the lobby, Gabby would call us over so she could coo at my son, and even spoiled the kids by giving them Skittles and Andes mints! The amazing staff definitely made our family feel welcome, kids included! Once we arrived in our room, we were delighted to find that not only was the room immaculately clean, it was also quite large. We had 2 Queen beds, which were loaded with plush pillows and covered in very luxurious, high thread count bedding. These are the kinds of beds you don't want to get out of in the morning, so make sure to set your alarms and schedule a wake-up call in the morning! The bathroom was also very clean and was well-stocked with fluffy white towels and spa-quality toiletries. This got major brownie points from me, since one thing I hate while traveling is cheap shampoos and soaps that don't do a good job and leave a funky residue behind. At the Wyndham, they offer products that you'll actually look forward to using! As far as scenic views go, the Wyndham does not disappoint! We had a wonderful view of Playhouse Square, and could even see Lake Erie in the distance. The kids LOVED being able to watch people on the busy streets below! If you like settling into bed and catching a movie with family, the Wyndham also offers some really fun movie night packages that you can enjoy in-room. Along with the feature film of your choice, the Wyndham will provide goodies like candy, bottled water, and even treats from local favorites like Campbell's Popcorn, a Cleveland fixture that has been around for generations. (Be sure to check them out at West Side Market!) Since the folks at the Wyndham knew we'd be traveling with kids, they also left a HUGE coloring book and some crayons for the kids. That was an unexpected and very appreciated gesture! If you get hungry but don't want to leave the comfort of those big old beds, the Wyndham offers some amazing room service. We ordered food one night, and the service was speedy and our food arrived hot. I chose a Reuben, which just happens to be a Cleveland favorite. The corned beef was flavorful and tender, and it was smothered in Swiss Cheese, Sauerkraut, and creamy Thousand Island dressing. The kids enjoyed a 3 cheese Quesadilla and fries, and Dan ordered a steaming hot bowl of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Yum! Swimming is in season rain or shine at the Wyndham Cleveland, too! On their basement level, there is a sparkling pool, a hot tub, and even a spa! We loved taking a dip in the cool, refreshing pool. There's even a kids' play area complete with a climber and slide. Check out this slideshow which features the hotel, our room, the pool, and the amazing food we ordered from room service. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay at the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square. It had all the comforts of home and then some, friendly, attentive staff, and an amazing location close to everything that downtown Cleveland has to offer. Whether you're in town for a concert, sporting event, or a night at the theater, I would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful hotel. Oh, I should also mention, their on-site restaurant, Encore!, is amazing, too! Look for a post very soon featuring this eatery, as well as how you can plan your special events at the Wyndham!
