***Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** Having 2 kids under the age of 5 in the house can be pretty chaotic, especially when the younger of the 2 is a master-manipulator and fits the stereotypical "pesky little brother" mold to a tee. As adorable and sweet as Xander is, he can also be Satan reincarnate when he's up to no good or doesn't get his way. This usually means tormenting his sister in pretty much every way, shape and form imaginable. Hitting, chasing, taunting, stealing favorite toys or God forbid the tablet...These things happen at least 20 or 30 times on a daily basis. It's enough to make a Mom insane at times. When the kids are overly challenging, I need a "Me Moment" to unwind and bring my blood pressure back down to an acceptable level. A temporary distraction from the screaming, fighting, tattling, and bickering does wonders for me as a mom, and allows me to be calmer and more relaxed as a parent. So what do I do? I enlist the help of my teenager or my husband, and I head off to the bathroom with my iPad for a bit. Yes, I just said I head to the bathroom. It's the only place in my home that I can even hope for a little solitude and peace and quiet. After I am sitting on the toilet lid and the door is locked, I escape to a different world....One full of intrigue, mystery, and some pretty top secret missions. I collect valuable artifacts, as well as uncover clues to get to the bottom of a mysterious missing person case. No, I am not a spy or a top investigator. I'm still just a weary, frazzled Mom, sitting on the toilet lid. (Nothing glamorous about that, right?) But my stressful day is transformed as I get lost in another place and time thanks to The Secret Society-Hidden Mystery. The Secret Society – Hidden Mystery is a captivating mix of I-spy scenes, gem match puzzles, brain teasers and memory games. In the game, you become a member of the Order of Seekers and start exploring enchanting worlds by entering photographs. The goal is to collect clues that will expand even further the world you're traveling in and help you unravel mysteries related to your missing uncle. This wildly popular hidden object adventure also features social elements: you can help your game mates, make friends and send and receive in-game gifts. I have been sneaking away to play this game for a couple of weeks now. It's truly become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. This game is perfect for busy moms, since it can be played in brief spurts, or for longer periods of time. It seems that no matter how hectic my day is, I can always squeeze in a few moments to further my quest. This game has several challenging activities, many of which are set in beautiful and exotic looking places. Seriously, the graphics are beautiful and incredibly detailed. My favorite? The Buddha's Square, of course! You may not know this, but I am a bit of a hippie...I own tie-dye stuff, love classic and psychedelic rock, and I actually use tons of Indian and Asian decor throughout my home. (Gotta love being a World Market Ambassador!) And...I have a Buddha collection that consists of several different statues and figures relating to the Buddhist religion. So the Buddha's Square, seen below, is definitely right up my alley. In many of the scenes found in the game, it's your quest to find hidden objects. Many levels give you a written list, and others are trickier because they only provide a more vague silhouette. While some items stand out and are easy to locate, some literally take forever, since they're so well-camouflaged by their surroundings. It can truly be maddening at times. In a good way, of course. It makes victory taste so much sweeter when you finally hunt down all the items and reap the rewards. Thankfully, you're able to zoom in and pan around the area. This makes locating items much easier than if you're looking at the whole scene at one time. So if you play and get stuck, remember to zoom in. It will truly help save your sanity. You're welcome. There are also other activities in The Secret Society-Hidden Mystery. Some of them, my kids can even help with! Their favorite thing to do, other than help me locate hidden objects, are the puzzles like the one seen below. Basically, a scene is torn into several pieces, and they need to be put back together before you can discover the clue or item located within. The simpler ones are great for Sophie and Xander, while the more complex ones are great for my teenager. There are also the much loved gem match puzzles that are oh-so-addictive, and even fun block puzzles. The one below is simple. They get much, much more challenging as the game progresses. These ones actually drive me nuts, and it takes me a while to complete them. But I love the fact that it helps keep my brain sharp. As a mom, I need to stay mentally alert and always on my toes, and this game definitely helps me achieve that! So...This is what I do when I hide in the bathroom after a long day. If walls could talk, they would tell you about the tired Mom in her yoga pants and sweatshirt, sitting on the toilet lid with a cup of coffee and her iPad. Sure, she may look like she's simply playing around with the tablet. In reality, she's regaining her sanity as she explores exotic places and helps crack the mysteries within The Secret Society. If only real life were so shrouded in mystery and suspense, right? While I do spend a lot of alone time playing this game, I'm not a total meanie. I share. The kids really love helping me advance in my quest. Sometimes when dealing with brain-teasing tasks, it takes a family effort to solve the puzzles. My younger kids love the simple ones, and they also enjoy trying to help me find hidden objects. (They've saved my butt on several occasions, too!) Plus, seeing Mommy play a game earns me mad brownie points with the kids. I like that. I want them to believe I am much cooler than I actually am.
