Just in time to close out an epic summer, "The Hill" is coming to theaters near you! This film, starring the likes of Dennis Quaid and Colin Ford, tells the inspirational, real life story of baseball extraordinaire, Rickey Hill.
Rickey Hill is a Texas native and baseball phemon, who faced many challenges on the road to greatness. He had to use leg braces as a child due to degenerative spinal disease, had to learn to walk again, and beat all the odds, showing the world, and his concerned, Preacher father (Dennis Quaid) that sometimes determination and the power of a dream can produce miracles.
This coming of age tale is not only entertaining, it's inspiring. Coming out of rural, Conservative Texas, Rickey Hill had the odds stacked against him from the jump. Between his overly cautious Preacher father's disdain for baseball and the medical challenges Rickey had to face, the road to the Big Leagues proved to be a bumpy one, to say the least.
This movie has it all, from growing pains, to falling in love, to the power of dreaming big. I loved the blossoming romance between Rickey and his childhood girlfriend, Gracie, played by Siena Bjornerud. She always believed in Rickey, even when he couldn't believe in himself. She remained steadfast in her faith in Rickey, helping him to bring his dreams to fruition.

We really enjoyed this film, even though we're admittedly not the biggest sports fans. The great thing about this story is that it appeals to everyone, whether you're well versed in baseball or not.
The story of conflict between father and son is relatable, and I love the fact that eventually, the thing that threatened to tear apart a family brought them closer together in the end. I also love how, in the face of the biggest baseball scouts, Rickey persevered, showing them that despite the odds, he truly was a "Hitter" worth taking a chance on. Overall, we rate this film 8/10. It's family-friendly, suitable for all ages, and is enjoyable for anyone looking for a feel-good story based in reality. (I love true stories, personally, and find them inspiring.) Definitely head out to a theater near you to see this much anticipated film, starting August 25th!
