***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** My youngest children are a mere 12 months apart in age. Sophie turned 4 on New Year's Eve, (Not looking forward to her teen years AT ALL!) and little Xander turned 3 just two weeks later. My babies aren't little babies anymore, much to my disdain, so now instead of playing pat-a-cake, we're focusing on school readiness. Sophie is a little smarty-pants, and she can count, identifies all of her letters and numbers, and reads better than most 1st graders I've known. Xander isn't too shabby when it comes to his skills, either. (Although he's not as advanced as his sister quite yet, which is to be expected, being a year younger.) I don't know about you, but I have found that kids learn more efficiently and retain knowledge better when learning is fun. Kids are silly, fun creatures, after all! Just look at my little goofballs! So when I discovered the great educational kits in the Teach My series, I was really excited. They offer several kits, including Teach My Baby, Teach My Toddler, and finally, Teach My Preschooler. These kits are available in both US and Canadian versions, and contain everything a parent needs to make sure their little ones are on the ball academically. We received the Teach My Preschooler Kit to check out for ourselves, and I was immediately impressed by just how comprehensive it is. It contains so many great teaching materials, and they're all housed in this attractive, secure case. The case alone scores major brownie points with me, since it keeps little pieces all in one place, and not where I can step on them in the middle of the night. (You parents can relate to nighttime injuries by stepping on kids' products, can't you?) The Teach My Preschooler Kit contains the following materials:
We've been using this kit for a couple of weeks now, both for parent-led and independent learning. (Because my Sophie likes to take over and do everything herself!) The posters, foam numbers and counting guides are wonderful. All of the components are great, actually. They allow me to teach my kids in the same way that a classroom teacher would. I love seeing them apply what they've learned in their day to day life. Xander especially loves counting his teddy bears and stuffed animals. But the real hits in our home would have to be the Magic Drawing Board and Transparencies, as well as the assorted flash cards. Here's Sophie, doodling on the Magic Drawing Board. Yes, she is drawing here...sort of. But the board can also be used to teach kids how to write letters, numbers, and words. Xander's favorite activity would have to be the flashcards. I love how many of these cards show an image on one side and the proper word on the other. This is a great way for kids to learn word recognition. And of course, while these kits are comprehensive and offer a school-like curriculum, they are also loads of fun. Sophie and Xander look forward to learning time, and there are enough materials included that I can switch things up a bit and offer different activities each day. One way I like to make learning fun is to offer rewards for learning. When kids get recognition for their accomplishments, they tend to be more enthusiastic when it comes to learning. Check out Xander...He is making his "Silly face" as he patiently waits for me to get out his beloved books and flash cards! Overall, I would definitely recommend Teach My learning kits to anyone who wants to help enrich the lives of the children in their life. Not only do these kits ensure school readiness, they also offer wonderful bonding time as well. There are so many activities that help promote early reading, math, writing, and organizational skills. When learning is fun, kids excel. By choosing Teach My kits, you'll help foster a love of learning and help your kids be at the top of their class once school starts!
