We have reading time every day, since I want them to form a genuine love for reading from an early age. Reading is not only important for school readiness, it's also a portal into other worlds. Whether it's visiting a fairy land, slaying a dragon, or exploring ancient worlds and civilizations, kids discover a whole new world of knowledge and imagination through reading. Of course, my babies are not experienced readers just yet, so reading time is more of a family affair for now. I do have to say that my 3 year old daughter can in fact read several words on her own. (Yay!) Still, at this time, my toddlers are far more visual when it comes to books, and they love bright, vibrant pictures and beautiful illustrations. So of course, when I got the opportunity to review the amazing 3D books from Popar Toys, I was very excited. These are nothing like the traditional "pop-up" style books I remember having as a child. These books take 3D to a whole new level by pairing bright, colorful story books with modern day technology. As a matter of fact, the Popar Toys' Princess And Her Pals 3D Book has earned the much coveted TNPC Spring 2013 Seal of Approval. (And trust me. These judges at The National Parenting Center are experts, educators, and parents. They see everything that hits the market, so this is quite an honor indeed!) What Makes These Books Unique : While there are a few different books to choose from, we chose Princess and Her Pals. My toddlers both adore anything that has to do with princesses or castles, so this was the natural choice for us. You can also choose Bugs 3D Book or Construction Machines 3D Book, for example. At first glance, this appears to be an ordinary story book. It's large in size, and features brightly colored illustrations that are sure to delight any child. Once you open the cover of the book, you'll quickly see that this is unlike any story book you've ever seen before. In order to experience this book to its fullest potential, you must download the app included on your iOS or android device. (The apps are available at Google Play or at the Apple App Store.)This allows the story to literally come to life in real 3D form! There are detailed instructions in the book, and they're quite easy to understand. We have used several different devices to view our book, including my MacBook Pro, iPhone, and even my BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. As you turn the pages of the book, you simply sync them with your mobile device and watch the story come to life. You do need to aim your device properly to get the full effect. This was easy to accomplish on all of our devices. For younger kids, I would definitely recommend using a tablet or laptop, since my kids had a hard time aiming my iPhone properly. The result is absolutely mind-blowing. The app allows the story to become an augmented 3D reality, with the characters and settings virtually popping up off of the screen. It is very realistic looking! There are also narrations and music that accompany the story. I absolutely love the fact that each page of the book features different color themes, characters, and stories. Whether you're cooking in the kitchen, planting seedlings in the royal garden, or getting ready for a lavish ball, each page of the book allows children to be swept away into a wonderful world of imagination. Another thing we really enjoyed was that the princess characters also had animal pals. As you can see, one princess has a puppy, another a kitten, and there is even a frog prince, just to name a few. My children were so amazed by the 3D images they saw while viewing the Princess and Her Pals 3D Book with our mobile devices. Xander couldn't stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing, and he actually thought that the characters could come out of the device and play with him! Overall, we were totally wowed by the 3D book from Popar Toys. Not only is the book itself beautiful and stimulating, the 3D option takes story time to a whole new level. These books are designed to keep children engaged and make them truly excited about reading. There are even games and other interactive features to enhance learning. I can't wait to purchase the other books in the series for my kids. They were so impressed with the Princess and Her Pals 3D Book that I know they will adore the others as well. Hopefully the bugs from the Bugs 3D Book won't scare Sophie...She doesn't like creepy-crawlies! I would definitely recommend the 3D books from Popar Toys to any families out there interested in making reading a more interactive and magical experience for their children. Prepare to be wowed. This is like nothing you-or your kids-have ever seen before! How to Connect : You can check out the awesomeness that is Popar Toys on their website.
