Here in LeBron country, AKA NE Ohio, cold and flu season is in full swing. Everywhere I look, people are sniffling and sneezing, and I am hoping that the "winter sickies" spare my household of their misery. Of course just because we're not ill doesn't mean we're free of sniffles. When it gets cold, runny noses...well, they just kind of happen. It seems that every time we head outdoors, I am reaching into my purse to wipe snot from little noses. (I know, not a very glamorous description, but hey, it's the truth!)
Since we use SO many tissues this time of year, I am always thinking about the amount of waste produced. Think about it...With so many people grabbing their tissues, that's a lot of extra trash going into our landfills, and more trees being cut down.
So when I learned that the folks at Scotties plant 3 trees for every 1 that they cut down, I was definitely quite impressed. I love when a brand takes the time to help the environment rather than just hurting it. Giving back is so important, don't you agree?
Right now, Scotties is having a fun competition that is teaching kids in grades 3-8 just how vital preserving the environment is! Kids can visit the Scotties Trees Rock! start up guide to learn everything they need to know to enter the competition. (With parental permission, of course!)
Once your child has gone over the materials and learned about the importance of trees to our environment, they can submit an essay to the contest. Essays can be up to 150 words, and should focus on why trees are important to them, their community, and the Earth.
Scotties will choose 30 winners, so odds of winning are pretty good. Each winner will receive a $250 gift card, and so will their school teacher. How cool is that?!
If your children in grades 3-8 are interested in entering , please visit scottiestreesrock.com
Essay submissions are being accepted until February 6, 2015!
