![]() Have you noticed that more and more places are implementing a uniform dress code for children? I have been noticing this is a growing trend that is not just limited to private schools anymore. I have heard that some public schools and even daycare centers are now requiring school uniforms in their establishments. As a mom, I see the benefits of this change. For one, it helps to prevent bullying. When I was in school, people were often labeled and discriminated against if they weren't wearing the latest styles. The fact is, not all families are wealthy enough to afford $150 jeans or ridiculously priced sneakers. A child shouldn't be targeted for their family's economic status. I recall one of the worst things you could be called was a "K-Mart Shopper". Granted, this was in the 80's and 90's, and K-Mart has come a long way since then. Another reason that kids school uniforms may be a good idea, even in public establishments, is because it takes away distractions and allows kids to focus on learning rather than what other kids wore to school that day. Let's face it: The clothing that some kids choose to wear can be downright inappropriate or even offensive, and this is not conducive to learning. If a kid comes to school wearing a halter top and very short shorts, they're going to get a lot of attention. (Probably not positive attention, either!) This can cause a great amount of distraction in the classroom. Finally, I think the best reason for school uniforms is that it allows a child to simply be themselves. The pressure to fit in and be "cool enough" is minimized, since everyone is dressed the same. Sure, kids will still want to be accepted. That will never change. But if uniforms are the standard, they will be judged by their personality and their merits rather than what their clothing and style dictates. I don't know about you, but I would much rather see my children judged for their talents and their kindness than on what label is sewn into their outfits. Some people think that school uniforms take away a child's sense of individuality. I disagree. I think that during the week, uniforms take a lot of peer pressure off of kids. Then on weekends, kids can express their own personal style in a non-school setting. The best part? A child can base their style on what they really like rather than on what they think they're "supposed" to like because all the cool kids at school do. So as you can see, there are a lot of good reasons to consider school uniforms. And these uniforms have come a long way! Long gone are the stiff, starchy, uncomfortable uniforms of generations past. There is a new generation of stylish, comfortable and affordable school uniforms available, and these great items can be found at French Toast Official School Wear! Who is French Toast, and what do they offer? Well, this is a great company that provides fashionable uniforms for children of all ages. They offer a ton of styles and colors, so you're sure to find the perfect fit for your school or daycare's dress code. As a matter of fact, French Toastis America's leading brand of school uniform. Since 1958, this company has provided families with quality children’s wear and boys and girls school uniforms at great prices. Their selection of uniform styles and sizes is second to none, from toddler size uniforms through young adult, French Toast carries over 6,000 individual colors, styles and sizes in stock, all year round! The awesome folks at French Toast sent me an assortment of their products to try on my toddler, Sophie. While Sophie is not enrolled at a preschool or daycare that requires a uniform, I found that many of the styles at French Toast are great for everyday wear, too! Check out this cute top and short combination! It's simply a short sleeved, polo-style shirt with a picot collar. I chose pink for my girly girl, but there are several color options available. Pair this top with the adorable pull-on khaki shorts, and you've got a great outfit that can be worn anywhere! I also received a couple of more traditional, uniform style dresses. My daughter loves wearing dresses, and this 2-in-1 button front pleated dress quickly captured her attention. I love the fact that it's a simple, pull-on style and is easy to dress her in. It looks like 2 separate pieces, but it's a clever and convenient all in one design. I actually posted a bunch of photos of Sophie in this dress on my personal Facebook page. Almost immediately, I received several comments gushing over how adorable she is in this dress! Overall, I am thrilled with the selection and quality of the clothing at French Toast. All of the items I received are durable, attractive, and are built to last. Sophie loves wearing them, too. Comfort is very important, and these garments are definitely comfortable to wear. While the girls items are beyond adorable, they also have a great selection of boys school uniforms, too!
I would definitely recommend French Toast to any families out there who have kids enrolled in schools or daycares that require a uniform dress code. Or for those who are simply looking for modest and affordable clothing for their little ones! French Toast offers only the best, most stylish uniforms and separates around! I have conflicting opinions. I think it is great for limiting the I have, you don't scenario. On the other hand it only makes for no creativity in dressing or finding who knows what kind of ways to express themselves as being "not the same."

I like that it eliminates (mostly) the problem of inappropriate clothing and kids wearing gang colors (a problem where I grew up) and kids robbing other kids of $150 sneakers (also a problem where I grew up), but as a parent with limited funds I don't like the extra expense; buying Summer uniforms, then Winter uniforms, then when Spring rolls around, hoping that they can still fit into the previously bought Summer uniforms. And now that I have a 2nd child going into Kindergarten this Fall, that expense doubles. And I'm not even counting their regular clothing for weekends and breaks! Phew! It's a bit of a nightmare sometimes.

I'm still trying to decide. I like the idea, as I was made fun of many times for my "gothic" style clothing, but at the same time that showed other people who I was, and if they didn't like THAT part of me then I knew they weren't good enough to get to know me.

I think uniforms last longer than normal clothes anyway, so that's a plus. I like the idea of uniforms in school because I remember teachers having a hard time enforcing the dress code.

I like the idea of uniforms. It would definitely make life simpler in the mornings. My kids are in private school & I would much rather they have uniforms than being able o wear street clothes.

I think they are great! I just wish the High School here would adopt them! They are in the elementary and middle schools just about everywhere but not the High Schools

I would love it if the kids schools would implement uniforms. Having four in school the school clothes budget almost breaks us every year. It's crazy how much clothing costs and this way a few pieces and you could have a week long wardrobe.

I think uniforms help children because they aren't judged by their peers based on the clothing they wear

I've gotten use to it here but I think it's a great idea. For those less fortunate, they don't have to feel bad they're not in style with the others and wearing name brands

I love that they wear uniforms at my daughters school. At the school I work at they dont really adhere to it to much and I see kids undies all day I am sick of it..The parents now days dont dress their kids they are sleeping in or at work its not like it used to be .. For the most part the only complaint I have is that it is to hard for the little Kg kids to get a belt off to go potty but they are pretty good at it..

I think uniforms are an excellent idea because it saves a lot of hassle when it comes to buying and choosing school clothes. Unfortunately, bullying about clothes and socioeconomic status still happens no matter what the schools implement to try and stop it.

My kids wear uniforms to school, and have for years. I find it easy to get dressed in the morning for them and I never have to answer the question "what should I wear today". The downside is it creates a lot more laundry since they always change their clothes the minute they come home from school!

My kids had to wear uniforms at their old school and I did not like it because I had to purchase two separate wardrobes, one for school and the other for home and everywhere else.
