After long, brutal winters, we enjoy being able to finally head outside for both play and relaxation in the sun. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has had other ideas, and we've had more than our share of rainy afternoons lately as well. (Thank goodness we have plenty of Play-Doh for indoor creative play!) Yesterday, however, was absolutely gorgeous. Mid to upper 70's, sunny, with a nice, cool breeze. Perfect weather for some outdoor play. When I told the kids we were going to take the party outside, they were more than happy to oblige. Okay. I DID have an ulterior motive in driving the kiddos outdoors. With so much rain recently, my family room had been taken over by toys, and there was a TON of dried-up "Play-Doh Gravel" embedded in my carpets. I needed a break from the screaming, and I needed to clean up a bit. Since I have a teenager in the house, I often have him take the littles outside so I can get some work done. Also, the kids were trying to start a Dinosaur VS, Super Soaker battle in the house. And we can't have that. No, Siree. My hubby would be really upset if any of his precious electronics got ruined thanks to a powerful blast of water hitting them. Here's what happened: Sophie was playing with her super-cool Jurassic World Chomping Velociraptor Head hand puppet. This puppet is SO neat! It is made by the folks who create Nerf products, so it's made from that soft, durable foam we all know and love. It is designed from the specs provided from 63 million year old fossils, which adds to its authenticity. This fierce creature has very intricately detailed skin, ferocious teeth, and angry looking eyes. This dude looks hungry, in my opinion. I wouldn't want to be in his way! Anyway, kids can really use their imaginations with this fun puppet. They can chomp dolls, die-cast cars, or even Play-Doh Minions. We encourage them not to "bite" each other with the puppet, but our efforts there have been futile. Thankfully, while the teeth look sharp, they are not. No injuries will occur from dinosaur attacks! Sophie was innocently declaring war on the Play-Doh characters, and Kyle, my 15 year old, decided it would be funny to sneak up on her with the Nerf Super Soaker Zombie Strike Dreadshot Blaster. She screamed and got soaked, and I quickly corralled the kids and sent them outside. I am all for water play, as long as it's not inside the house! Plus, heading outside allowed me to introduce my daughter to a childhood favorite of mine: The Skip-It! Yes, these are still being made and our daughters can enjoy them, too! Or sons. I don't adhere to gender stereotypes when it comes to toys. Here's more info about this updated favorite: Keep track of your awesome moves with the Twister Moves Skip-It! Put the hoop on one leg and swing the Skip-It while you hop over it. How many skips can you do without stopping? The built-in counter keeps track for you while you skip! Get your groove on and keep upping your score while you skip with the Twister Moves Skip-It! Works with the Twister Moves Moves Tracker (sold separately). Before Sophie could really get the hang of the Twister Moves Skip-It, she got attacked AGAIN, this time by Xander. He had gotten ahold of the Nerf Super Soaker Zombie Strike Dreadshot Blaster. The poor girl didn't even know what hit her! The Nerf Super Soaker Zombie Strike Dreadshot Blaster is one powerful water blaster! This double-barreled blaster holds a whopping 24oz. of water, and has a stealthy one-handed operation. Unsuspecting victims are blasted by a double-shot of water from up to 30 feet away! WOW! The water tank also lights up, making it ideal for even nighttime play. (With adult supervision, of course!) Xander finally got tired of shooting his sister with water and decided he wanted to water the plants, instead. Sophie took full advantage in the ceasefire, and started trying to learn to use her Twister Moves Skip-It. She was SO eager to try it, she forgot that I had to add the counter to the end. I'm not going to lie, the Skip-It offers a really good workout! I slipped it over my own foot and tried to remember how to use this. Yes, I was a bit rusty. It had been more than 20 years since I last used one. I definitely broke a little bit of a sweat, but eventually I got it. After Sophie had a basic understanding of how the Skip-It worked, she started practicing. No, it didn't come immediately to her. There was a bit of frustration as she got the hang of the motions. Finally, she got it! My little girl did it! She was SO proud of herself, too! And then, Xander happened. He was waiting in the wings, ready to execute a sneak-attack, Zombie Strike Dreadshot Blaster Style. I almost felt bad for her, but it was too cute not to giggle a little bit! We're definitely enjoying our summer with the help of Hasbro! They offer so many wonderful toys by brands like Nerf, Play-Doh, and more. Whether it's indoor play on a rainy, miserable day or some active fun in the sun, it's always the right time to #PlayLikeHasbro.
