My husband, who is a service manager at an automobile repair facility, has been in the automotive field for over 20 years. He said that he's never seen so many people flock to the shop to get those last minute oil changes, system checks, and of course, snow tires. No one wants to get stranded somewhere in the bitter cold. Here in NE Ohio, winters can be brutal. They're truly no joke. Preparedness is super-important, especially when you're traveling with kids in tow. True story. It didn't happen in the winter months, thank goodness, but it was still quite stressful. We were in Cleveland for the weekend, and had the chance to stay at a gorgeous hotel and see some of the many attractions that downtown Cleveland has to offer. (Yes, we really do have more to offer than LeBron James!) Anyway, we headed over to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as the Great Lakes Science Center, which happens to be right next door. Here's a picture of Sophie and Xander in the parking structure. Well, we were there for several hours, meandering through all of the exhibits, and taking in all kinds of great knowledge. Little did we know that someone, presumably my husband, left the trunk open. We were in a hurry to get inside, and as we grabbed our diaper bag, I guess he forgot to shut the trunk all the way. We think this is why when we returned to my Mercedes, it wouldn't start. Nothing. Nada. And of course, the battery indicator was on in full force. Thankfully, there was a nice man who happened to have jumper cables in his truck. He jump-started us, and we were able to make it home safely. But....What if he hadn't been there? What if I were there alone with the kids, and I didn't have my mechanically-gifted husband there with me? That's where the Pro-Logix Intelligent Battery Charger comes into play. These are sold by Clore Automotive. Founded in 2001, but with an over 50 year heritage, Clore Automotive is a leader in the design, development and manufacture of automotive service equipment for professionals and consumers. Their brands include some of the most widely recognized names in the automotive equipment aftermarket, including Booster PAC, Jump-N-Carry, SOLAR, Christie, VIPER and T-TECH. The generous folks at Clore Automotive sent us their best selling, Pro-Logix Intelligent Battery Charger to check out for ourselves. When it arrived, I promptly handed it over to my husband so he could check out the specs. He was definitely impressed, and said that this is certainly a well-designed, high quality product. He also went as far as to say that all motorists here in NE Ohio should invest in one to avoid getting stuck as the temperatures plummet. Speaking of specifications, here they are: 10/6/2 Amp 6/12V Combining fully automatic operation and the ability to properly charge multiple battery types, the PRO-LOGIX PL2310 is the perfect charger to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s professional technician. Intelligent, beneficial, safe and versatile – one charger does it all, from fast charging and battery repair to battery maintenance and long term storage charging.Intelligent Battery Charger / Maintainer Plus, with the ability to properly charge virtually any lead acid battery type, it is the only charger you will need. Flooded, AGM, Gel Cell, Spiral Wound, Marine and Deep Cycle batteries all can be charged right with the PL2310.
This battery charger is simple to operate, since it's literally "smart". It can rejuvenate old, severely drained batteries. (You can also use "soft start" mode for old batteries.) It compensates for temperature for effective and rapid charging. You can even read detailed data about your particular battery's performance as it charges. Pretty cool, right? I love the fact that the Pro-Logix chargers come complete with clamps. These are housed on the underside of the unit. These even have built-in safety features to prevent reverse polarity issues. Yep. So simple, even a stressed out woman with 2 preschoolers hanging on her leg can use it. Let's face it: Emergencies happen at the most inopportune of times, so this is likely when I will have to use this product! Overall, I feel much safer knowing that should my battery die due to cold, I can bring it back to life, without having to head to the shop. (No one wants tow bills, right?) This charger is compatible with batteries of all kinds, and with 7 different charging phases, it's tough enough to do its job quickly, but precise enough to get it done right. If you're heading on any road trips this Holiday season, I would absolutely recommend heading over to Clore Automotive and picking up one of these innovative chargers. It just might be a life-saver!
