***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** Winter has been a bit brutal here in Ohio, so most of my family's activities have had to be indoors. Any parents of small children know all too well what this can lead to....The dreaded Cabin Fever. Kids who are cooped up get bored, and bored kids can get into a lot of mischief. Or drive their parents mad with fighting, etc. (Or is that just my kids? I can't be the only one, can I?) As a mom, I love to encourage my kids to engage in imaginative, creative play. We do this in many different ways from puppet shows and dress up games, arts and crafts, and even playing house. My kids definitely have huge imaginations, and they love to put them to work! So when I got the opportunity to check out the brand new Double Desserts set from Hasbro, I breathed a sigh of relief. You see, we have had tons of days spent snowed-in and there are more significant storms to come, so I knew that this adorable play set would keep my kids engaged and occupied, even though they're stuck indoors. The Play-Doh Double Desserts set is super-cute and comes with everything needed to create tasty desserts, complete with fun, decorative accents. In this set, you'll find a playset base, oven, oven top, 3 oven molds, 2-piece extruder, server, scoop, roller, 2 plates, instructions, 2 cans of Play-Doh Brand Modeling Compound, and 2 cans of Play-Doh Plus compound. (If you haven't heard of Play-Doh Plus, you're missing out! This has a different consistency which makes it absolutely perfect for piping "icing" onto "cupcakes" and more!) This set was easy to assemble and was ready for some chef action in no time flat. Here is the oven top, which includes a roller and some really cute molds to help personalize your little chef's pastry creations. The oven base features an opening door, and even more molds. You can use one of the cake molds, slide it into the oven, and then push down on the top until you hear a "ding". Then your cake is ready to decorate! Now here's the really fun part....The Play-Doh Plus goes into this piping tool, and applies some very realistic looking "icing" onto cakes and cupcakes. Since this has a thinner, more pliable texture and consistency than traditional Play-Doh, it comes out smoothly and easily. Here is a cupcake my 3 year old, Xander, iced all by himself. Not too shabby for a little dude, if I do say so myself! Of course I might be just a wee bit biased there. Still, I see some serious culinary potential here. Perhaps Xander will be the next Bobby Flay one day. And once he is, maybe he will put his devoted mama up in some fancy condo on the beach somewhere. Hey, I can dream, right? He even added a pretty blue heart using one of the multiple molds included in the set. He then presented this creation to his Mommy and said it's because he loves me so much. Yes, he is a Mama's Boy and yes, I am loving every second of his sweetness! He wasn't happy when I wouldn't eat it, so we had to have the Play-Doh is for FUN, not eating discussion. He found that out the hard way when he tried tasting it. Thank goodness it's non-toxic! The kiddos loved the molds most of all. There are so many to choose from, including familiar shapes like the heart above, a teddy bear, flowers, and even fruits, just to name a few. They really enjoy decorating their baked goods with fun shapes. As a mom, I love the fact that most of these molds are built right into the toy itself, so there are less small pieces to inevitably lose. My kids have been having an absolute blast creating some pretty tempting desserts using the Play-Doh Double Desserts Set. They even play nicely together rather than fight over it! I love watching them interact and work together to create the perfect dessert spread! Their favorite thing to do is make a few cakes and cupcakes and then have a tea party complete with the treats they made. Overall, I am absolutely thrilled with this product. Not only is it nostalgic since I was a Play-Doh kid myself about a zillion years ago, it also teaches kids about the joys of cooking and creating. And on a cold winter's day when you're stuck inside because wandering outdoors means hypothermia and frost-bite, it just doesn't get any better than that! How to connect :
