Perform Topical Pain Relievers Prove That Sometimes Cold Actually Is A GOOD Thing

"Oh, my aching back"....This is something I hear in my home, almost daily. My hubby, AKA "The Old Man", suffers from pretty regular back and muscle pain. In all reality, he's not old at all. But at 37, he's put a lot of wear and tear on his body. Many years spent as a mechanic with constant bending, stooping, and reaching have definitely taken their toll. 

In my home, we try and avoid prescription drugs whenever possible. Sure, they have their time and place, but we don't want to experience any nasty side-effects, gradually built-up immunity, or God forbid addiction. Prescription painkillers claim the lives of an astonishing number of people per year in this country, and we don't want to fall victim to this growing epidemic. I have personally witnessed peoples' lives be utterly destroyed by their addiction to painkillers. It's incredibly sad to watch.  So we stay away from these drugs  whenever possible. 

Since Dan doesn't want to have to reply on narcotics to manage his pain, we have been trying out various over-the-counter solutions. One that worked quite well was BIOFREEZE, a topical pain relief gel that utilizes cold therapy. Since this is a name we know and trust, I was super-excited to learn about Perform products, by the makers of our much-loved BIOFREEZE. 

Perform pain relief products also use cold therapy for quick and long-lasting pain relief caused by sore and aching muscles. This is especially great for back, foot, shoulder, and neck pain. 

Why choose Cryotherapy?

Perform products produce pain relief through the use of a process called cryotherapy.
 
Also known as "cold therapy," cryotherapy is the application of cold to decrease inflammation and relieve pain. The related term, cryokinetics, refers to the pairing of pain-relieving cryotherapy with exercise. This cooling and re-warming of tissue stimulates the return of blood flow to affected areas. 
 
The most popular form of cryotherapy is the use of ice. But when applied to sore muscles, ice can cause such negative side effects as stiffness, decreased range of motion, decreased motor performance and skin irritation.
 
Perform Pain Reliever produces a sensation of cold similar to that which accompanies icing. But unlike ice, Perform products allow you to remain active. 

Recently, we received a nice assortment of Perform products to try for ourselves. These included the Perform Pain Relieving Spray, the Perform Pain Relieving Gel, and the Perform Foot Pain Therapy Kit. 

Perform Pain Relieving Spray is specially formulated with Menthol as its active ingredient and a blend of botanical extracts and oils including:  Arnica, Eucalyptus, Ilex, Lavender, Lime, Camphor, Nutmeg, Orange, Peppermint, Pine, Thyme and White Tea.
 
The Spray is ideal for hard-to-reach areas, such as the middle back and lower extremities like legs and feet. My husband definitely appreciates this, since sometimes pain strikes while he's at work...And it would be pretty darn awkward if he asked one of his technicians to apply pain reliever to his back. Such a request might even constitute as borderline sexual harassment! 

The Spray can be applied from any angle, even upside down, making those hard to reach areas-more reachable! It also absorbs into the skin quite rapidly, and doesn't leave behind a nasty, funky residue. 

The Perform Pain Relieving Gel also helps to eliminate pain rapidly and effectively. This gel is greaseless, which means it won't leave behind any residue on hands or the treated area. You'll know it's there, though, as the cooling relief takes hold. Dan swears he feels his pain start to diminish within 5 minutes of applying this gel. The effect lasts for hours, too, which allows him to stay hard at work in the demanding automotive field. 

Dan also seems to suffer from achy feet on a fairly regular basis. As a service manager at a busy shop, he's on his feet all day long, often running from his office out to the bays to help diagnose and repair vehicles. Luckily, the folks at Perform have an answer for foot pain, too!

Now this kit is pretty cool. It allows for hands-free application, thanks to the special roller ball. In addition to the cooling relief that the Pain Relieving Roll-On provides, you can also enjoy a nice massage. That's right! A foot massage! 

Now I have to be honest. I am not into feet, and I definitely don't want to rub my husband's tootsies. I love him, but there are just certain things I am not willing to do. Lucky for Dan, this kit includes the Thera-Band Foot Roller! This nifty little roller conforms to the foot, and offers a soothing, relaxing foot massage. Oh, it can be chilled prior using, too. This is perfect for those days when "your "dawgs" won't quit barking", as my Dad used to say. 

Overall, I am definitely pleased with our Perform experience. I knew we would be, though, since we're already big fans of BIOFREEZE.
