That's why I was so excited to learn about Novica. You see, Novica, in association with National Geographic, offers a wide variety of products that you simply cannot find in stores. The reason you won't ever find Novica's products at big box retailers is because these items are hand-crafted by artisans in towns and villages around the world! Novica simply acts as a middle-man of sorts, allowing their customers to enjoy beautiful, unique pieces made by true artists. Each piece is unique, lovingly made, and offers a ton of multi-cultural flavor.
I spent hours browsing the Novica website, and was in absolute awe of the sheer variety of treasures to be found. There are so many categories to choose from, you'll be sure to find something to please every person in your life, and at every price point. Some of the things I love the most are the Amethyst Dangle Earrings and the multitude of handcrafted art sculptures. I also love the Alpaca sweaters and all of the great tableware!
Speaking of tableware, that's exactly what I decided to review, at the urging of my husband. You see, we're wine lovers in my home, and we never got around to purchasing a set of high-quality wine glasses. Sure, we had a few cheap, generic wine glasses that did their job, but they were all mis-matched and certainly not suited to using when company comes for a dinner date.
Novica offers a wide variety of simply stunning drinkware choices, but we ultimately decided on the Crimson Serpentines, which are hand-blown by Javier and Efrén in Mexico. These wine glasses are perfect, as we use red in our accents and decor often, and these glasses feature artistic red swirls within the glass. Because each piece is handmade, shape and sizes vary slightly and tiny bubbles may appear within the glass. This exemplifies the hand-blown technique, making every piece a unique example of blown glass craftsmanship.
When our wine glasses arrived, they were extremely well-packaged and were all intact. As we unpacked them, we "oohed" and "ahhed" at how absolutely fabulous our glasses were. The quality of Javier and Efren's work is amazing, and you can tell that they come from a rich tradition of glass blowing. The glasses were beautiful, heavy duty, substantial in size, and completely flawless. We especially enjoy the slight variations between the 6 glasses. The red swirls varied, and there are small bubbles within the glasses. This just adds to the hand-crafted charm and also makes it easier to determine which glass belongs to which person. (Hey, after a few glasses of wine, it can be hard to remember!)
Overall, we are very, very impressed by the quality of the global treasures found at Novica. I cannot wait to order more from this amazing company. We got a taste of Mexico this time, but perhaps next I will try something from India or maybe the far east. I definitely love their jewelry, so maybe one of their Jade necklaces would be in order!
I would definitely recommend Novica to anyone who is looking for special gifts that are sure blow away the recipient. These items are also wonderful for those who appreciate beauty from all different cultures. When shopping with Novica, you're not only giving a one-of-a-kind, unique gift, you're also helping to support skilled artisans around the world and keeping their traditions alive. I can feel good about that, can't you?
