Snacking is something that turns into an all-out war in my house. You see, I am the "Strict Mommy", and I pay attention to every little thing that goes into my kids' bodies. If a product is full of processed junk and a huge list of ingredients that I cannot pronounce, chances are, I won't be feeding it to my children. They're my babies, not some science experiment, and I have very real concerns about food additives, pesticides, and GMO's.
My husband, on the other hand, is a junk-o-holic. (Yes, I know that's not a word...But it should be! And my husband's face should serve as the very definition in the dictionary.) Dan constantly sneaks massive amounts of cookies, cakes, and other "goodies" into the cart when we go grocery shopping, even though I tell him those treats aren't so good in the long-run. I try my best to keep these snacks out of my kids' hands, but I often catch their Daddy sneaking them what I like to call a "chemical sh*tstorm in a wrapper." This does not make Mama happy!
Don't get me wrong. I do not want to completely deprive my kids of cookies, candies, and other tasty treats. These are, after all, some of the things that make childhood magical. Some of my fondest memories involve my Grandma's house, a cold soft drink, and a huge bowl of Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. So I get it...I really, really do. I just like to swap traditional snacks for more sensible ones, like the organic snacks from Newman's Own Organics.
Newman's Own Organics offers a wide variety of snack foods that are full of flavor but don't contain all of those scary sounding ingredients found in their traditional counterparts. In fact, their products are certified organic, so they only contain pure and wholesome ingredients, just as Mother Nature intended! No chemicals, no preservatives, no residual pesticides, and no genetically modified organisms. Just REAL food that tastes GOOD.
About Newman's Own Organics :
Newman’s Own Organics was started in 1993 by Nell Newman, daughter of the actor Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and her business partner, Peter Meehan, as an organic division of Newman’s Own. The demand for organic products was unknown at that period in time, so the first product they produced was pretzels. These were a HUGE hit in the natural foods community, and the business exploded from there.
By 2001 Newman’s Own Organics became an independent company that continues to expand and prosper. According to Nell, “Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan.”
Our Favorites :
Recently, we received a nice assortment of Newman's Own Organics snack foods to try for ourselves. We received pretzels, licorice, and loads of cookies. (They make a LOT of different cookies!)
When our package arrived, the kids were very eager to start sampling all of these organic goodies. While everything was amazing, there were a few products that definitely stood out for us. Our favorites? Definitely the cookies. We loved the Ginger-O's, the Hermits, the Vanilla Newman-O's, and the Fig Newmans the best.
The Newman-O's come in a variety of different flavors. There are chocolate cookies with white cream, vanilla cookies with cream, and spicy ginger cookies with cream inside. (I love the Ginger-O's so much!) The Newman-O's are wonderful by themselves, but we love dunking them in vanilla flavored Almond Milk.
Another of our favorites are the Hermits. These cookies resemble brownies in a way...They're little squares of moist deliciousness, flavored by sweet, organic molasses. These come in 3 varieties, but we received the Original Hermits. These little morsels are absolute perfection, and go great with a steaming cup of coffee or cocoa.
Last but not least, rounding out our favorites are the Fig Newmans. These are pretty self-explanatory. They're soft, cake-like cookies with a sweet fig filling. They're absolutely fantastic, and remind me of my childhood. I used to eat similar cookies, but these are so much better because they're organic! I adore these cookies and could have eaten them all myself, but sadly, my kids wanted me to share. And sharing apparently means caring.
Overall, my family was very pleased with our Newman's Own Organics snacks. These foods were all tasty and loved by my entire family. While unlike my husband, I have never been a fan of traditional sweets, I can definitely feel good about giving my kids these products. They are certified organic, so they're free of all the "junk" found in conventional snack foods. They are also nutritious, delicious, and free of harmful chemicals and preservatives. It just doesn't get much better than that!
