![]() I try and feed my children natural and organic foods whenever possible. I don't think preservatives, GMO's, and artificial ingredients belong in my kids' bodies. Not only are these things disgusting, they have also been linked to certain health risks. Not to mention, many foods have residual pesticides that linger, therefore making their way into our bodies. Do you want to eat bug spray? Yeah, I don't, either. With childhood obesity at a staggering high, it is up to parents to make responsible choices for their children's diets. Many snack foods contain huge amounts of fats, sugars, and hydrogenated oils, none of which promote good nutrition in any way. But of course, kids love snack foods and shouldn't be deprived of the occasional treat. As much as I would love to totally eliminate snack foods from my household, this will realistically never happen. You see, my husband is a choco-holic and he is passing this disease on to my poor, innocent children, despite my constant requests not to give them millions of cookies. Both of my toddlers love "Daddy Time" because they get to eat things that Mommy won't give them. He will even wait until I am busy doing dishes or in the restroom to sneak my children sugary treats. I guess I need to pick and choose my battles. This is a battle I know I have no chance of winning. So as far as the "junk food" goes, I think I may have stumbled upon the perfect compromise. I have found a great way to allow my kids to have their treats without all of the "junk" that goes into most snack foods. Newman's Own Organics has a huge line of tasty, organic foods that are sure to please any palate. There is a wide variety of kid-pleasing products like cookies, chocolate, and even licorice! Newman's Own Organics also carries several types of pretzels, popcorn, and even coffee, too! So there really is something for everyone, young and old alike! Newman’s Own Organics was started in 1993 by Nell Newman, daughter of the actor Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and her business partner, Peter Meehan, as an organic division of Newman’s Own. The demand for organic products was unknown at that period in time, so the first product they produced was pretzels. These were a HUGE hit in the natural foods community, and the business exploded from there. By 2001 Newman’s Own Organics became an independent company that continues to expand and prosper. According to Nell, “Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan.” The generous folks at Newman's Own Organics sent me a huge package of their organic goodies to try with my family. They even sent some of their organic pet food for our Jack-A-Bee, Chloe! When my package arrived, I was immediately impressed by the unique takes on traditional snack foods. You know the popular, cream filled sandwich cookies? Well, Newman's Own Organics have put a delicious spin on these cookies. Their Newman-O's come in some unique flavors, such as chocolate-mint and peanut butter-chocolate. Yum! They also have a similar cookie, Ginger-O's, for those who like a bit of spice with their sweets. All of these cookies were a huge hit with my family, even my sweet-loving husband! While we enjoyed all of the products included, here is some info about my absolute favorites. These are absolutely mouthwatering, and my kids happily gobbled them up. Who says organic can't taste fabulous?! The Peanut Butter Newman-O's were a fast favorite in my home. The cookies are decadent and chocolatey, and the peanut butter filling was rich, satisfying, and not sickeningly sweet. (BIG plus for me, since I don't like things that are too sweet.) These flavors are perfectly balanced and make the perfect late night snack for me, or a nice after school snack for the kids! The Ginger-O's were my personal favorite. I love the spiciness of ginger! These cookies feature a distinct, ginger flavor paired with a nice, sweet creme filling. I thought these were perfect in every way possible. I found it hard to share them! But I am not greedy, so share I did. My kids and husband loved the Ginger-O's too, but not as much as I did. I could probably eat the whole bag if I didn't practice will-power! Of course the Fig Newmans were favorites in my home as well. I love figs, and the fruits used in Fig Newmans are organically grown. These tasty cookies come in a few different varieties. One that I love is the Wheat and Dairy Free variety. These are great since they can be eaten by those with food sensitivities or special dietary needs. The best part? While these are wheat and dairy free, you would never suspect it. These do not lack flavor, and you'd hardly know that they're good for you! The other variety of Fig Newmans I loved were the Fat Free Newmans. As a woman, I am always watching my fat intake. These cookies are a delicious, guilt-free way to indulge. They are packed full of flavor and don't taste like typical fat-free foods! They are just as tasty as full-fat cookies. I must admit, I didn't share the Fat Free Fig Newmans with my family. I'm the only one on a diet, so these were all mine!
Overall, I was definitely thrilled with the selection we received from Newman's Own Organics. These foods were all tasty and loved by my entire family. While I have never been a fan of traditional sweets, I can definitely feel good about giving my kids these products. They are certified organic, so they're free of all the "junk" found in conventional snack foods. They are also nutritious, delicious, and free of harmful chemicals and preservatives. It just doesn't get much better than that! HOW TO CONNECT: You can learn all about Newman's Own Organics on their website.
