![]() True story: (And it's a bit embarrassing, so I can't believe I am telling it!) When I was a small child about a zillion years ago, according to my 12 year old, I loved Sesame Street. A lot. My favorite character was Bert. You know, the tall, awkward, slightly nerdy pal of Ernie's. There was one episode that showed Bert and Ernie getting ready for bed, but for some reason, Ernie wasn't tired and wanted to party with some sheep and his bugle. Well, all was fine and dandy until the evil sheep carried Bert away into the night. While this wouldn't be frightening now as an adult, it scared the living daylights out of me when I was a toddler. I remember hiding in the corner with my blankies and crying because I thought Bert was being murdered by the "Boogie Woogie Sheep". It probably didn't help that my Mom played along with this because it was amusing. You may recall a little while ago I introduced you to the great new story books from My1story. These books aren't your typical fairy tales for one very important reason. Unlike most classic children's tales that have potentially scary plots, My1story books always have a happy ending. There are no giants eating mischievous little boys, and the Big Bad Wolf is replaced with a friendly, fun-loving wolf cub! That's right! These books give all of those classic children's stories a twist to ensure that little ones don't get frightened. They're even beautifully illustrated by a former Disney animator and have fun, friendly characters that the kids are sure to love. Take a look at how pretty the pictures in the "I Love Cake" book are! I love the vibrant colors and slightly anime-ish features of Little Red Riding Hood. She almost reminds me of the wide-eyed Power-Puff Girls! My toddlers both love their My1story books, and love to snuggle up with the new companion plush pals! We received the Little Red Riding Hood plush doll, and she really helps bring the story to life. This plush character is true to the story book with her polka dotted dress, hood, and big green eyes. Sophie was absolutely delighted to see her new friend, and immediately snuggled up on the couch with her to read a story. The neat part is that my little girl recognized her plush pal and went and grabbed the My1story I Love Cake book in which she is featured. Xander, my soon to be 2 year old, grabbed our other My1story book, "Jack and the Magic Beans" and settled in to look through it as well. I was absolutely thrilled and kind of surprised to see my 2 toddlers cozied up together on the couch looking at their books and cuddling their plush toy together without fighting. You see, we've got a double dose of the Terrible 2's going on, and while my kids love each other immensely, they can be quite possessive and territorial when it comes to their books and toys. This generally leads to fighting and at least one of them going to time out. I love My1story, and so do my kids. They don't get scared by the formerly frightening tales, and they love looking at all the delightful pictures. They also love toting around their Little Red Riding Hood plush pal! If you have little ones, you've got to check out My1story. I guarantee your kids will love them, and that you won't be woken up in the middle of the night to little people who are afraid that a wolf is going to eat them. Really, it's a win-win situation. I can't wait to see what the folks at My1story come up with next!

I don't remember any of my 7 ever being frightened. Probably because they had their favorites and wanted them read over and over again. :)

I don't think I was ever really scared by fairy tale stories. I don't know if my mom just made sure to make it seem so unreal or what. I wouldn't be surprised if she would just change some words around in the story to make it less scary :) I just always realized that they were so fake. Maybe I was older when I started reading them. I don't quiet remember. But these look super cute and would be perfect for my LO

My daughter used to be deathly afraid of spiders, including singing the itsy bitsy spider song. I showed her that spider in books can get her and she thinks its beacuse they are smushed and stuck to the paper =]

I know that my granddaughter is very sensitive just like her mommy was when she was a little girl so I have to be careful about which fairy tale I read to her and I watch her facial expressions for any signs of becoming upset or scared and tell her my version that is silly and cheerful.

I think the original fairy tales are pretty freaky, but those aren't for the kids...but even then, the disney ones can be a bit scary if you're young. I don't remember ever getting scared, but I'm sure I did at some point.
