There are so many news stories nowadays about frightening childhood obesity statistics, an increase in juvenile diabetes, and tons of other potential problems today's kids face. These issues are not only terribly unhealthy, they can actually reduce lifespans. Since I want my kids to live to be crotchety, old 120 year olds, I am always looking for ways to keep them on the right path and help them form healthy habits early on. One of the things that keeps kids sedentary is unarguably the availability of technology. Kids seem more interested in TV, video games, and being online than they are in playing in the great outdoors. I, like many parents, limit the time my kids can stay glued to technology, and I always make sure they get plenty of active play time in. So when I learned about Mymo's Adventures from the folks at My Gym Childrens Fitness Center, I knew my kids would love it. After all, it combines 2 things they love: the TV and being active. This is a great option for rainy or cold days, and here in Ohio, we have plenty of both! Our Review of Mymo's Adventures : The “Mymo’s Adventures” DVD features the gym’s irresistibly cute mascot, Mymo, as he engages children and leads them on six awesome, interactive adventures. The DVD combines animated fun, live action workouts and a wisecracking puppet named Alphonzo Bartholomew III. “Mymo’s Adventures” is created to educate, entertain and motivate children to be active and helps them to develop their coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and fine/gross motor skills. The colorful characters in Mymo's Adventures are definitely very kid-friendly and keep little ones engaged. I love the fact that there are several adventures to choose from, each with different workout routines. This DVD is great for kids of all ages, although toddlers may have a bit of trouble following along perfectly at first. Sophie and Xander have enjoyed watching this DVD, and Sophie happily jumps, runs, and plays along. Since my babies are just toddlers, they don't seem to always get the moves or activities correct. But that's okay, because in my opinion, it's more important that they're at least moving! They also love the fact that Mymo's Adventures features a playful monkey, which just happens to be one of their current obsessions! Overall, I would definitely recommend Mymo's Adventures to any family who would like to find fun and creative ways to keep their kids active. This is a great way to spend time during days when the weather may not be ideal for outdoor play. It's also great in the evening when kids may need to "get their sillies out" in preparation for bedtime. And kids just seem to love it!
