Anytime we stayed at Granny and Papa's house, they would take us with them for their bowling league events. My brother and I would usually play the arcade games and eat pizza while Granny and Papa bowled. We always had so much fun, and we really got interested in bowling. A bit later, we joined a family bowling league. It was my Dad, my brother and I, and my Dad's then (evil) girlfriend, now ex-wife. My brother and I didn't want to be around this awful woman, but this was an activity we had no say in..We had to go, period...Which leads to a kind of funny story. When I was around 11, I was a pretty good bowler. Nothing amazing, but definitely decent for a kid. Well one league night, I also had a basketball game. I was a forward, and I didn't want to have to skip my game to go bowling. Needless to say, I was forced to go bowling, and I was MAD. I put forth absolutely no effort that night, and actually tried to make gutter-balls as often as possible. Childish? Yes. Definitely. But I was a child. One game, I scored a 7. Yes, 7 pins the whole game. It was horrible! At the end of the season, the bowling league awarded various trophies. They had a ton of categories, so even the not-so-great bowlers or kids would still feel they did a great job. I ended up getting 2 trophies: Highest score for my age range, and LOWEST score for my age range...That darn 7 game came back to haunt me! Funtastic!! I love to bowl!! When I was a child we too went bowling. We had our own bowling balls with our names engraved on them, carrying cases the whole works!! Cabrillo lanes was the center we went to here in San Diego. Sadly they closed it down. there is no AMF here but we do still go out to Escondido Ca. frequently. Awesome post!! Great fun.
