***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** My kids are definitely little gear-heads. At just 3 and 4 years old, they know their way around a vehicle better than many adults do. I think this is because their Daddy is a "car guy". He is a service manager at a local automotive repair shop, and before that, he spent many years as a technician. So when Sophie and Xander have car questions, as curious kids often do, Daddy always has answers for them. Now if only they'd realize that a catalytic converter has absolutely nothing to do with our cats.... Anyway, when I learned about the classic toys from Motorworks by Manhattan Toy Company, I knew my kids would be absolutely thrilled. These toys take classic wooden toys and take them to a whole new level by adding realistic touches like a "working" car wash in their Fuel-N-Shine Station or interchangeable, snap on parts in their vehicles. (I say "working car wash" because all of the brushes and rollers found in a car wash are there. Of course soap and water are not, nor are they meant to be used with this toy.) Recently, we received the Fuel-N-Shine Station and the TR Convertible 3.0 to check out for ourselves, thanks to the awesome folks at the Manhattan Toy Company and Motorworks. The TR Convertible 3.0, seen above, is a sleek machine whose frame is made from a durable and smooth Beech wood. There were no jagged parts, so splinters definitely won't be a problem. This is a HUGE plus with me, since kissing boo-boos always makes me sad. In addition to the stylish frame, the TR Convertible 3.0 also offers an interchangeable cab, snap-fit chassis and rims, and removable tires. Motorworks offers a ton of stylish accessories to customize your car, or you can mix and match parts with your other Motorworks vehicles. The design possibilities are truly endless! Okay, now for the fun part. Motorworks also offers some super-fun playsets to use with their vehicles. These are durable, offer realistic play experiences, and they're built to withstand the use and abuse of imaginative children. We absolutely love, love, LOVE the Fuel-N-Shine Station. This set has a drive-up gas pump with removable nozzles, a car wash, and several reusable decals to make it look just like a real gas station! How cool is that?! Notice that there are no prices on the gas pump...I guess the folks at Motorworks don't want to spoil kids' fun with the realities of absolutely insane fuel prices! After you're all fueled up, drive on over to wash away all of the mess being on the road brings. You know, dirt, salt, dead bugs on the windshield. Once you head into the Shiny Car Wash, which just happens to be open 24 hours, your car will shine like new once again. I am so impressed by the detail of this car wash. Check out the rollers and mitter curtain. The rollers actually spread to accommodate your vehicle, and the mitter curtain dries you off as you leave the bay. Pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself! Sophie and Xander could hardly wait to drive their TR Convertible around the yard. They raced it through the grass, on the driveway, and even up their slide. Needless to say, by the time they were done exploring the yard, their vehicle was in desperate need of some gas as well as a good washing. They loved being able to "drive" their convertible into the bay to fuel-up. Sophie was particularly amazed by the removable gas nozzles. She really thought it contained real fuel like the pumps at our local Circle K that's just a couple of blocks away. And of course, the car wash was a huge hit, too. My kids are always curious about how things work, and the authentic looking parts allowed them to see what happens in a real life car-wash. Sans soap, water, and wax, of course. They loved slowly driving their car into the car wash and watching the rollers "hug" the vehicle, washing away all the dirt and grime that road trips often bring. Overall, I couldn't be any more impressed by our Motorworks experience. Not only are these toys well-made and durable, they are also very realistic and can teach kids about how automobiles work, thanks to the interchangeable parts on the cars. And the playsets? Genius! Again, these offer little ones the chance to do things they see Mommy and Daddy do every day, like taking the car to the garage, getting a wash and shine, and even pumping gas. Yes, these toys are simple in design and contain no electronic bells and whistles. But, that being said, sometimes simple is best. My kids rely on their imaginations when playing with their Motorworks toys, and they tend to stay engaged in creative play longer than they would with something with all the flashing lights and sounds. So if your kiddos are mini-gear-heads like mine, definitely be sure to check out what Motorworks has to offer this summer. I know you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how fun these automotive toys are! How to Connect : You can check out Motorworks products on their website.
